Neil Patrick Harris Poses For A New Photoshoot
Neil Patrick Harris, who by pretty much all accounts did a spectacular job hosting the 2009 Emmy Awards this past Sunday night, was spotted on the campus of Fairfax High School here in SoCal posing for an as-yet-unknown photoshoot. Here are a few pics of NPH being all sexy on the photoshoot set:

While NPH was lookin’ decidedly hawt during the shoot, I noticed something that really detracts from all the sexiness that was going on. I had no idea that *NPH was a smoker:

I have to say, it’s such a turn-off when I see someone smoking. Not only is it a dirty habit, IMHO, but it’s a dangerous/deadly act that greatly threatens one’s health. NPH is enjoying so much success right now, I can’t understand why *he (or anyone, for that matter) would want to risk their health by inhaling carcinogens into their lungs. I very stupidly smoked in college and I thank my lucky stars I was able to kick the habit without much difficulty. I realize it’s not always easy to quit smoking but life is just too short to eff around with one’s health, especially when smokers are in complete control of the damage they are doing to their bodies. Whoa, didn’t mean to go all soap boxy but it’s just really upsetting to me when I see people I like/admire hurting themselves in this way. I’d love to see NPH enjoy many, many more years of success … and I’d also love to see him kick this nasty habit.
*UPDATE: It has come to my attention that NPH doesn’t smoke and was not really smoking in these photos … apparently, the cig was used as a prop for the shoot. While this is decidedly good news, I still maintain that I hate smoking. I am very happy to know that Neil Patrick Harris and his lungs are happy and healthy!!

Get over it.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:24 am
I totally agree, Trent.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 am
Totally agree, Trent. Not to mention it’ll mess with his singing voice, and that would be a damned shame.
I’ve lost people in my life to lung cancer, and I just don’t understand willingly doing such harm to your body.
Love NPH, though!
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 am
You’re absolutely right. There is nothing worse in life than smoking.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 am
@Freddie — Get over what?
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:35 am
I can completely understand your thoughts on smoking, Trent and Astrid, however being a smoker and quitting smoking aren’t as cut and dry as you would seem to believe. Everyone starts smoking for their own reasons, and while you may have personally found it quite easy to quit, that is far from the case for most other smokers. It is an addiction as much as alcoholism and drugs are, and smokers are more than aware of the damage they are dong to themselves. It is just exceedingly difficult to quit. The only thing a smoker hates more than being preached to about smoking is being preached to about smoking by an ex-smoker.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:40 am
@Ace — nothing worse in life than smoking? Think about that for second and get your priorities straight. I can think of MANY worse things someone could do.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 am
@Robin — Of course, I even said it’s not always easy to quit. It just seems TO ME that risking my health isn’t worth the habit. I’m not preaching to anyone, just expressing my feeling on the matter. People are free to do what they like.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:47 am
@Robin-Its not only risking the health of the smoker but people that are around as well. If you want to kill yourself thats fine but please don’t kill me in the process.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:59 am
Smoking is gross and it will mess up his voice, looks, health, and everything else.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:04 am
I’d have to agree with you on this. I’m disappointed in him. Someone needs to buy him some nicorette.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:07 am
well i just wanna say that smoker or not I’m just so glad to see NPH enjoying this career re-surgence! Having had the pleasure of meeting him after one of Cabaret performances I have to say the man was nothing short of gracious and giving…even when I confessed how weird it was to find “Doogie Howser hot” after his performance, to which he blushed. A truly deserving guy…who just so happens to be hot. :-)
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:10 am
Has anyone considered that he’s not smoking on a regular basis? As far as I know he’s never been seen smoking in public before, except for when he was on Broadway. (The irony.) So it might as well be an occasional thing.
While I agree on smoking being a very nasty habit, give the man a break. He’s probably smoking because he has had to deal with a lot of stress lately. And yes, it *is* possible to smoke a few times a year and not getting addicted. Maybe it was even just part of the shooting, who knows?
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:13 am
Whatever…I wonder what those Aussie Cheese Fries (that you LOVE so much and post about..2,900 calories, 182 g fat, 240, g carbs ) do to your body Trent…or how about the numerous times you’ve posted about excessive drinking and being hungover…We all have our vices, “comforts”, or “dirty little habits”…stop being so hypocritical..You hate it, we get it, blah blah blah
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:20 am
Smoking is also a great appetite suppressor… that is why so many in hollywood smoke. It is better to smoke and die of lung cancer than it is to gain 10 pounds. reallyl shows our warped thought process in this country doesn’t it?
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:22 am
@Shawn — Why are you so defensive? You don’t agree with my views on smoking so you have to attack? How am I being hypocritical?
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
The smoking is ok…however the other stuff he does is not. Let’s just say I’ve been in his abode and well I was saddened to see what i saw.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
sorry, but @shawn has his point — food can be just as deadly as smoking. as well, how many people out there die from lung cancer & never once in their life smoke a cigarette? no one knows cancer well enough yet. & i’m sorry, but i’m with @Freddie as well — we all know you dislike the smoking — some of us do smoke though & take offense to what you say, as bad as it may be for us, it’s our bodies…..
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
Sexy! I need to go out for a smoke. F you if you don’t like it.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
I don’t know where the notion that smoking is an appetite suppressant comes from. As a long time smoker I find the best smoke time comes after a delicious meal. When hunger pangs hit, smoking a cig aint gonna fix it. And I agree w/Shawn, alcohol, fatty, unhealthy foods/lifestyle are slow killers too. But no one ever harps on that. And yes, it all affects the surrounding population.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:32 am
@Beth, well said!!
@Trent, don’t worry, the people hating on you are just cranky because they’re craving their next nicotine fix…
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:49 am
Wish I had seen this before everyone got riled up – my friend is one of the folks in the photos and says it was a prop for a shoot, and he gave no indication of being a smoker …ok, maybe you can take offence that he used a prop like that, but he IS an actor, after all …
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:52 am
@masterchief — If it is a prop then good for NPH but what is the point of glorifying smoking?
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 am
I’m with you 100%, Trent. My only hope is that maybe it’s only part of the shoot — I’ve never seen NPH with a cig before or heard about him smoking, and he really doesn’t look/sound like a smoker.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:54 am
i knew once trent mentioned his own personal opinion on smoking that there would be people with comments bashing him for stating his opinion. did he not say, IMHO? yes, he did. no need to freak out people.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:59 am
Smoking is disgusting plain and simple, and for some reason this senseless habit seems to turn people into selfish, careless idiots. I can’t stand seeing people throw their cigarette butts on the ground or out their car window when they’re done – so it’s not good enough to leave your dirty cigarette butts in your car but it’s ok to dirty our earth with these disgusting things (which my dog always picks up in her mouth when we go for walks). Not to mention when I’m sitting on a patio about to take a bite of my food and I get a bonus mouthful of cigarette smoke from the table next to me which he so thoughtfully waited for his partner to finish eating but could care less about the people sitting around him.
And for the person who was talking about Trent eating the cheese fries, etc, you’re right, they are bad for you as well, but I highly doubt he’s eating those 20 times a day. In one little cigarette there are so many chemicals (formaldehyde, tar, carbon monoxide – just to name a few at the top of my head) jam packed into one little cigarette and people are WILLINGLY inhaling these cancer sticks into their body……. I just can’t comprehend WHY people want to do this to themselves. I guess looking “cool” when they were a teenager was way more important. So for the people who smoke a couple packs a day – everyday – I would say that’s way more damaging to your body than the occasional plate of cheese fries.
Anyhooo…..Don’t smoke kids, it’s disgusting.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:17 am
@Bella – Seriously! I’m not a fan of smoking, but whatever..It’s their bodies..But when they are totally rude about it and smoke right in front of restaurant doors or in crowds, I get so irritated! And don’t EVEN get me started on seeing people smoking with their kids in their cars or while pushing their kids in a stroller..It disgusts and saddens me..I may have a few vices of my own that people might not like, but none of them involve being rude or endangering other people’s lives..
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:19 am
Oh..And I <3 NPH no matter what..I'm hoping that what masterchief said is true and that it was for a prop, which is just silly anyways, but really..It makes no difference..He's just so awesome..
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:24 am
This is only a bit of interesting information on the subject I learned at work listening to expert testimony about the effects of smoking. I was totally unaware that statically only 10% of smokers develop cancer. I always thought that number was much higher. Still too high as it is but it is interesting topic. Everybody has their opinion on the issue.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:36 am
DJVegas… no offense.. But man is that statistic WRONG…
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:40 am
If you don’t want to smoke that’s fine but I’m so sick of you judgy people who think you have the right to tell ppl wtf to do. Yeah we know smoking can be bad for your health thanks for the newsflash, if he wants to smoke that’s is business it’s not effecting you so fall back.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:45 am
I love NPH.
I am a smoker.
I agree with Trent 100%.
It’s disgusting, harmful, unhealthy, and it’s NOT just YOUR body you’re affecting, it’s everyone around you, too.
Which is why I’m trying to quit. And yes, it is hard, but Trent never said it wasn’t hard for others, just that it wasn’t for him. Everyones all “it’s MY body blah blah” well that was HIS experience.
And omg, way more than 10% of smokers develop cancer, but you can’t ethically do a study on whether smoking CAUSES cancer, because you can’t force people to smoke in order to see if they then get cancer. So you can’t say there is a causal relation between smoking and cancer, but there is definitely a correlation, which wouldn’t be huge if only 10% of smokers got cancer.(Plus, there are many other risks like heart disease, stroke, emphysema, etc.)
Anyways, smoke if you want, but just because Trent doesn’t like it doesn’t mean he expects all his readers to be non-smokers/anti-smoking. I’m so sick of how everything he posts lately gets attacked in some way.
Woooo long post.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
Trent, KEEP UP THE PRESSURE! It’s such bullshizz that people are allowed to make these bad decisions without any kind of social comment. It’s a bad decision, it harms me DIRECTLY (the science about both second hand smoke and the effects of seeing public figures smoking is completely clear), and therefore shouldn’t be recognized as “just another choice” people can make. Our health system is under enormous pressure, the tobacco industry is vile in its employment practices (tobacco is environmentally horrible, one of the worst child-labour offenders, etc), and we need to start putting an end to it. On with the comments, trent!
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
Trent – I’m always surprised that people get mad at you for expressing your opinion. It’s *your* website!! And you always qualify your statements with saying this is how you feel and others are entitled to their own opinion/lifestyle/choices etc. I really enjoy your commentary. Thanks for all the laughs and stories.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 am
As I tell my smoking friends, I hate smoking, not smokers. I suffer daily with the effects of second-hand smoking; therefore, I hate it. However, I’m glad how it is not as prevalent in our lives like it used to be (i.e. Mad Men). Growing up in the 80s, smoking was EVERYWHERE.
This is a celebrity blog, where Tr3nt posts his opinions on celebs and their lives. He is commenting and free to do so, just as we are free to not view if we are offended.
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:15 am
@ LULU
No offense taken .I didn’t come up with it. But a very highly paid expert witness in the California Court system would beg to differ. I was only stating what I had learned from that individual.
Speaking of smoking HAS ANYBODY GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCHED “BRITTNEY SPEARS SMOKING”? Goodness. She has lots of pictures smoking. It’s a shame. Maybe she and NPH are smoking buddies. Here’s to healthy lungs! :D
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:34 am
@EMCEE Chantix worked like a charm for me. I haven’t even thought of smoking in 2 years.
Trent you sound like a drug addict who just came out of rehab and found God… Stop the preaching if NPH is not blowing his smoke in your face why complain? We need less bitching an judging in this world… I’m just saying….
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:35 am
I love smoking cigs. Doesn’t mean Trent can’t have an opinion on it. I mean I consider those deep fried Aussie fries disgusting and gross and yah, they ruin your health as well. But I understand Trent’s opinion and I almost wish it was as easy for me to break the habit as it was for you Trent
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:35 am
@Believe me — Thank you. Please tell me what else I should blog about. K, thanks!!
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:04 pm
@TRENT…It wasn’t an attack..on the defense a little, yes…I was only making a point and stressing my opinion..Although this is Trent’s blog there is also a place where we can comment and reply, which I believe my opinion is just as valuable as anyone else’s..The hypocritical remark was not a direct hit..more of towards people in general–Struck a nerve didn’t it? Alot of people are so quick to judge others before actually looking at themselves– You (Trent) have your opinion about smoking/smokers and that it shouldn’t be glorified…well there are others that may think some of the things that you post, or do, shouldn’t be glorified as well and they have every right to comment on it as long as there’s a “comment button”…it’s all just a matter of opinion folks…What would NPH do? I am a daily reader and love the blog Trent..and I also love reading the comments and the “heated” debates
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:12 pm
why put a winking emoticon at the end of your piece? to me that says you were just kidding about wanting NPH to quit smoking and enjoy many, many more years of success. ;) (see what i mean?) other than that, i’m right there with you pink is the new blog person!
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:21 pm
I just wanted to say that my boyfriend went to Fairfax High School! I come on here and everyone is fighting about smoking! How lame :[[
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Hi Trent,
I agree with Shawn that you are being hypocritical because you are criticizing people that are ‘damaging’ their health when many times I have read your posts about you drinking too much (therefore damaging your health, right?) or eating unhealthy food.
It is totally hypocritical and so American. I don’t get the anti-smoking thing, especially considering the way most people ‘damage’ their own health in other ways.
This is just my opinion., as a European living in North America. Too much hypocrisy!
September 23rd, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Leave NPH alone! Jesus, who really cares if he smokes? America was built on tobacco. It was also built on liberty, and certain inalienable rights… So pipe down and mind your own bizzies you sissies.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:22 pm
It’s Trent’s opinion! If you people don’t like it then too bad! No need to be critical. To be honest, I agree. Smoking is really disgusting and a bad habit. Hello, cancer? Plus, the stench is horrible not to mention it ruins your lungs, skin, teeth, etc.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Smoking is cool AND drinking and smoking is just FABulous! I can’t remember the last time all the glorified starlets were in trouble for smoking while driving.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Ummm, Trent… I was smoking for the photo shoot. Had to chain smoke maybe 6 Marlboro Reds while posing. French inhaling and what not. It was nasty.
Sorry if it offended…
n
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
@Neil, himself — I have to say, I’m relieved to know that the smoking was faked for the shoot. I’m not offended by smoking, I just think it’s a nasty and dangerous habit. I’m very happy to know that your lungs are not being sullied by carcinogens ;)
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:42 pm
and with that post i have to say, yet again, example of a true class act that NPH
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:49 pm
smoking in my opinion is no worse than those who eat Mcdonalds more than occasionally, or those who dont exercise, or those who drink too much…i think Mcdonalds is disgusting and a filthy habit
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:58 pm
ok lets all judge NPH now cause he may light up now and then….hey life is too short,he can do what he wants…….as a x-smoker…Im not gonna judge him….he obviously exercises etc…he looks dam good
September 23rd, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Why use smoking as a prop? What was being advertised? NPH is a very respected and popular actor/singer. He could have easily nixed the idea. I guess I just don’t understand why he didn’t.
I personally wouldn’t want to be the cause of even one person smoking…..
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:08 pm
to all those saying it’s your body, you can do whatever you want.. yeah, you’re right. except smoking affects those around you as well. someone above said that only 10% of smokers develop lung cancer, and they were surprised the number was so low. hasn’t it been proven that second-hand smoke is even worse than actually smoking? why do you smokers blow that smoke away if you love smoking so much? why don’t you smoke in a bag so you can get the full effect? oh, you don’t want the smoke? well neither do i. and neither does my mom, who is asthmatic by the way. your smoking can kill her. obviously, she avoids smoke, it’s not as easy to avoid as you might think. on the road, for example, where i can smell the cigarettes from the person in the car in front of me/next to me. and also, thanks for throwing your butts out the car window. if you don’t want them, why the hell do you think i do? were you born in a dumpster where you could just toss something aside and it’s still in the trash? i saw someone do that with a “save the earth” bumper sticker on their car yesterday. nice. and to everyone saying overeating/unhealthy eating is just as bad… yeah, it’s bad, but when i eat crap food, i don’t throw it back up in YOUR mouth.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 pm
hmm…Marlboro and a Red Bull. 2007 Britney reference?
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Bravo, Bella! Smoking is 100% BAD….nothing can justify the stupidity of the very act of Inhaling Smoke and Poisons into your Lungs. You know, those things that allow you to Breathe Air to Live!!
Anything that glorifies this Deadly and Disgusting and Voluntary act just gives people another excuse to ‘defend’ their ‘right’ to kill themselves and those around them.
A bullet to the head would be so much quicker and cheaper!
My dad smoked until the day he died…his arteries disintegrated in his legs, and after many grafts, he eventually lost one leg. He died two months later, of Stage Four lung and liver cancer.
I tried one cigarette when I was about 9…thought it was the stupidest thing anyone could ever do, and never did it again.
My sister smokes (father-worship), and smoked during pregnancy! She has many serious health problems, yet refuses to admit smoking is making her sick/worse, and will not quit. If she gets cancer she will get no sympathy from me.
With all that we now know about tobacco, the truth about what the industry does to addict and poison smokers…why wouldn’t everyone do whatever necessary to quit!?
(And I can’t watch Mad Men because of all the smoking!! That…and the 60’s sucked!)
^^X^^
September 24th, 2009 at 1:37 am
@Nate cause Britney’s the only person who does that??? and britney smokes Marlboro lights.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:32 am
Who cares? We only live once, and you shouldn’t be so judgemental.
September 24th, 2009 at 8:55 am
I agree with Shawn. Americans love to get wasted and stuff their faces with unhealthy food (which, by the way, fucks up your bodies as well), but when it comes to smoking everyone goes apeshit. I get it. But it’s getting a bit repetitive and tiring.
September 24th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
I am so sick of everyone going on about cigarettes, let me tell you no one ever was killed by a smoking driver or had been attacked by a rampant smoker. If you want to stop the insanity and join in in having more of our rights away lets take away alcohol and tobacco and fatty foods and everything else that other people tell us is bad for us. We are adults why do we listen to others. Like sheep to the slaughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
September 25th, 2009 at 7:18 am
Ok as an ex smoker i too found it very easy to quit because I WANTED TO QUIT
