After my plans fell thru last night, Darion and I rallied and decided to catch a movie that we were both kinda interested in seeing and knew that if we didn’t see it together than we prolly wouldn’t've seen it at all … Halloween II. We’ve both heard bad things about it but, well, decided to see it anyways:

Ack, what a mistake that was. Nothing about Rob Zombie‘s remake of Halloween II even remotely resembles the much superior original film it is based on. While all the action takes place in the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital in the original film, the hospital scenes in the remake are relegated to a bad dream … and it gets worse from there. The movie is essentially an orgy of outrageous bloody violence with no story to speak of. Ghosts, white horses … bullcrap. Malcolm McDowell reprises his role as Dr. Loomis and makes me lose all respect for him in his film … it’s that bad. I find it very hard to believe that Rob Zombie calls himself a fan of the original Halloween movies and still create these horribly insulting “remakes”. I doubt I’ll ever see a Rob Zombie movie again … having been burned twice now, I think I’ve learned my lesson.
Tonight I’ll be at the first of the last four Nine Inch Nails shows of the Wave Goodbye Tour … tonight’s show is at the Hollywood Palladium:

It’s a bittersweet feeling … on the one hand, I’m excited to see NIN live again but … the shows are quickly coming to an end. Hopefully I’ll see many of you there tonight … and away we go!!

Thank god I didn’t waste money on that. That is how most of these remakes of horror classics are. That is why I am scared about Nightmare on Elm Street!! Horror films are my genre and these new directors keep butchering the original (Yes, pun intended)
@Mr. Gyllenhaal I agree w/ you! Why do these new directors keep ruining perfectly good horror films? Are there no new ideas in Hollywood?
OH no. I am the minority! I loved it! I liked that it was different than just another slasher remake. I thought it was interesting some of the things RZ did. Like how all the characters were damaged. Seeing the inside of Michaels mind, etc. I thought it was a very good horror movie!
(I liked the 1st one too!)
Better get to the Palladium early, Trent..They have a policy now of handing out wristbands to only the first 150 (more maybe?) people and that gets you on the floor..I didn’t know they did this and was PISSED when I couldn’t get on the floor for a recent concert..Luckily we found a really great couple who didn’t need their wristbands..I think that if it’s a GA ticket, you should be able to go whereever the heck you want to! Argh..So lame..
@Kendra — Wow, I did not know that — my guess is that the change has something to do with the set-up of the venue, this was not done for any of the previous shows. I do know they are giving away limited edition NIN Palladium buttons if you pick up your tix between 1-5pm.
I think it’s just a new policy that the Palladium has..Maybe the floor got too crowded before and became an issue with safety? I don’t know why but it’s pretty weak..
hall0We3n II is awesome !!! way better than the first – which I liked. let’s you in on Mike’s point of view – I wasn’t that exicted about going to see it but i’m glad i did. best movie I’ve seen in a long time. three cheers !!!
@baroness — Just curious, what was Mike’s point of view in this film?
Rob Zombie’s said multiple times that Halloween II is NOT a remake.
@Missy — It may not be a remake but it is a steaming pile of shizz. I’ll say that multiple times if need be :)
I couldn’t agree with Trent more. If it isn’t a remake he should have gave it another title and made his own bad guy. You can’t give a movie the same title and use the same characters and it not be related to a remake. I hate Rob Zombie now, he screwed that film up and almost made me lose my love for Michael Myers. He is an awful movie director, if you can even call him that.
I’m going tonight too Trent! See you there. I hope the camera policy is relaxed…does anyone know?
I should have bought tix for the Echoplex and smaller venues when I could, but this show, the first of the LA set, should be quite the crowd pleaser.
I loved H2! Personally, I think that Rob Zombie is a genius and it probably takes people with imagination and superior intellect to understand and enjoy his films.
HALLOWEEN 2 – EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK IT OUT AND MAKE UP THEIR OWN OPINIONS.
It’s really quite outstanding.
halloween 2 sucks. thats all. nothing else.
I think he was just trying hard to make it his own you know? I mean it wasn’t that great but I didnt regret the money I spent on it…I’ve always been more of a Nightmare on Elm Street fan anyway
Freddy fucks with your head before he kills you…with Jason and Michael it’s just killing you know mindless killing not that entertaining to me
Did love the Rocky Horror Costumes though
I’d agree that it should have a different title if it’s not a remake, but that steaming pile of crap called Dawn of the Dead that was released a few years ago had almost nothing in common with the far superior REAL Dawn of the Dead. Except a pregnant chick and being set in a mall. Not seeing this one, I saw House of 1000 Corpses and that was enough of Rob Zombie’s directorial stylings for me.
And I’m not a huge fan of the Freddy, Jason, and Michael trifecta. The first film from each series is a classic, but it gets silly very quickly. I prefer the stuff by Romero, Argento, and the crazy “torture porn” from Asia (mostly S. Korea, I think).
Well I understand that it is a remake of sorts…meaning that someone had done it before…that is the only way it is a “remake”…it is still Rob Zombie’s idea of what the sequel would be following his first movie. Though I have not been to see it yet (this weekend I am told) I think that it might help to go into it with that open mind. I saw the first one, and though I was horribly put off by a child doing the killing at the beginning (I am a teacher), I did not think the rest of it was so bad. The only reason to remake a movie is to do something to it to make it your own. This is why most people hate remakes (why I hate the remake of Annie…nothing can beat the original). I bet we would have serious complaints if it were too much like the first one anyways. What would be the point in going to see it! My fiancée said that Rob Zombie said that a horror movie should make you leave feeling terrible and uneasy.
The original Halloween II scared the bejesus out of me when I was younger. The creep factor of a serial killer stalking victims in a quiet, almost deserted hospital is through the roof. I hate that either of the originals was redone, because Halloween and Halloween II are 2 of the creepiest horror movies ever, IMO.
@ Trent – I think Mike’s point of view is that he sees his dead mom hanging out with a white horse and it makes him want to kill people. It doesn’t help that his mom and baby sister are very fine to look at. these two things have really screwed him up sexually. He sees his mom as a very pure person ( hence the angel in white ) The horse represents his raging sexuality ( which she is in control of in the film) Always leading around by the reins? Can you imagine if your dad was Hugh Jackman and your little brother was Justin Timberlake? I bet you’d see horses and stab people too.
– - – I will agree that this remake shit is played out – But these movies remind me more of Friday the 13th movies. —
P.S. girl in the movie is playing Lita Ford in new Joan Jett flick
Rob has said about 80 times the only way this is a remake is that he is using the characters from the original Halloween series. The only reason he did this one was that he could actually make Halloween his own this time around. So, where as a lot of people thought it was crap that is fine just stop complaing that is wasn’t a shot for shot remake of the original Halloween II… that complaint is getting quite tiresome from the amount it gets used.
I understand that he shouldn’t have made an exact remake of the first, that would be a waste of time. But I don’t even feel like this one should have even had the title and used the name Michael Myers. I LOVE Michael, but this movie made me almost not. If it was called something else and the killer had a different name, the movie would still be awful.
For someone to say it takes someone with imagination and superior intellect, shows me how some of Rob’s fans are. Going to bash people who don’t like the movie. I hated the movie and don’t like any of his other movies, they aren’t for me. They acting is bad, he uses the same freakin people in every movie, and they have a skanky feel to them. However, I have never downed someone who did like his movie. People have different opinions and we were just stating ours.
