Emma Watson Arrives At Brown University
Gooooooooooo Bears!

Emma Watson, who will be a Freshman in college Fall, made her quiet arrival in Providence, RI this weekend to acquaint herself with her new university, Brown. Here are photos of Emma on campus (chillin’ with new friends and with her boyfriend Jay Barrymore) on the Brown University campus this weekend:

‘Harry Potter’ star Emma Watson dressed down for her first day at university in America at the weekend. But any attempt at blending in with her fellow freshmen at Brown University failed when the 19-year-old actress reportedly turned up in a helicopter. Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the blockbuster series, will study literature at the prestigious Ivy League college in Providence, Rhode Island. Miss Watson, who looked anything but the global movie star in simple denim shorts and a white T-shirt, is likely to have to get used to having her own fan club on campus. Classes start on Wednesday after Saturday’s check-in and several days of orientation and activities. Before hitting the books, new students can attend yoga and games night, a midnight organ concert and kickball game. But it isn’t all fun: The students will also get the chance to ‘take part in discussions on diversity, sexual assault and Brown’s role in the transatlantic slave trade’. She said recently: ‘But I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known as “Emma Watson, the student from the UK” rather than “Emma Watson who starred in those Harry Potter films”.’ Without confirming that Watson is actually attending Brown this autumn, Mark Nickel, the school’s director of communications, said: ‘We do whatever we need to do to ensure safety and privacy, and that applies pretty much to all students.’ Asked if the school might take extra precautions to protect a young wizard, he added: ‘Sure.’ It is one of the top colleges in the United States, boasting alumni including former presidents, diplomats, royalty and a heavy sprinkling of celebrities’ offspring. Most recently, George Harrison’s son, Dhani, attended Brown. Brown was recently been ranked number 1 for America’s ‘Happiest College Students’, according to the Princeton Review 2010 rankings. It was also named ‘the most fashionable school in the Ivy League’ by the fashion trade journal Women’s Wear Daily. Miss Watson achieved straight As in her A-levels. However, she’s not completely leaving the world of showbiz behind. She will have to return to the studio during her holidays to film the last two instalments in the Harry Potter series.

I understand there was a ridiculous rumor that Emma arrived at Brown U via helicopter (which this article from the Daily Mail repeats) which turned out to be wildly untrue. I don’t expect that there will be much more ridiculous rumors flying around during her first term at Brown but, well, one can never be sure. I’m quite confident that once the novelty having Emma Watson on campus dies down (very soon, I expect) she will be able to blend in with the rest of her classmates and enjoy quiet college life. Welcome to the US, Emma! You’re an honorary Yankee now!!

she only got in because she’s a “movie star”. her acting is what prevents the harry potter films from getting oscar nominations. someone should tell her twilight won’t be on brown’s literature syllabus.

  2. J to the Da says:

LoL I’m gonna bump into her on Thayer St and not even know who she is lol.

  3. LA says:

I agree. I’m from RI as well and as far as I know, most people don’t care that she’s here… and I as well could bump into her on Thayer and not know who she is..lol

  4. CHASE says:

@Ria – Apparently you don’t know anything. Emma didn’t get in because she’s a “movie star”, she’s actually quite smart and had amazing test results with her GCSE (some important test in the UK). If you think Harry Potter fails to get Oscar nominations because of her then you are widely mistaken. I’m a HP fan and all but, the movies aren’t Oscar worthy. The acting isn’t all that great and it isn’t her fault. Take the film(s) for what they are.

Yay Emma! Good to see a ‘movie star’ being down to earth and choosing college and education and a normal life for a little while.
I have to say though, these past few times I’ve seen pictures/interviews with her, she’s looking more and more like Kristin Stewart. I mean, not in attitude or anything, just in looks. then in these pictures, the way she is sitting is soooo kstew

  6. Nicola says:

NOO British girl through and through :P
I’m stoked that a chid movie star got straight As in her A Levels and is attending an Ivy league college and actually cares about her education. Seriously, how many movie stars actually bother to go to college from the States? I bet you Miley ‘buck-toothed’ Cyrus isn’t. Screw the Disney brats, Emma is the best role model you can get.

  7. Lauren xx says:

    @Nicola,

    Claire Danes – Yale University
    Natalie Portman – Havard University
    Julia Stiles – NYU

to name a few. The Miley generation hasn’t even reached college age, so chill out.

  8. Brown 2013 says:

Emma Watson did NOT arrive on campus in a helicopter. That is Internet viral nonsense.
The originator of the nonsense was the notorious gossip website JustJared.com, which similarly fabricated a story last June that Watson was enrolled at Columbia.
This time, JustJared’s “source” was a TWITTER TWEET, of all things. On September 2, a Twitter account tweeted from an office building somewhere in Providence: “I think Emma Watson (aka Hermione Granger) just landed in a helicopter with her mom outside my building.”
In fact, the Watson family had already been at Brown for several days when the absurd helicopter ride was supposed to have occurred.
JustJared.com has been lambasted in the forums for making the helicopter story up, but the horse is out of the barn and around the world today poor Watson is accused of wretched excess and ostentation.

  9. Yale 2009 says:

Fortunately Emma’s classmates at Brown are a lot smarter than nearly everybody who either writes for an Internet gossip site or posts ignorantly to an Internet gossip site, so she will do just fine this semester.
I have been urging a freshman course at Yale in the basics of Internet fact-from-fiction sorting. Most viral eruptions are harmless, but a one day we’ll all be done in by a nasty panicky one.

  10. love says:

i loooove her!!! and look at how gorgeous she is even when she’s not dressed up! love love love it!!!

  11. Piper says:

I hope obnoxious fans and the paparazi leave her alone while she’s trying to do the college thing. It’s hard enough when you aren’t under public scrutiny.

  12. Princeton 09 says:

We could careless about celebs beeing on our campus such as miss Watson. We consider ourselves as celebs for going to Ivy League school. pfft.

  13. Ford says:

whos the guy with his hand on her leg?

  14. J to the Da says:

@Piper… HAHA paparazzi in Providence. LMAO thats funny.

  15. Jacinta says:

@Ria-You do know that Emma got straight As in school right?

    Fail.

  16. adam says:

    @Ford. Jay Barrymore, her bf.

  17. leanne says:

i’d just like to say that she didn’t get in just because of her movie star status – im english and over here getting straight As in your GCSEs and A levels (exams we do when we’re 18 and 16) is HUGE! i mean, nobody i know can do that – she’s like a miracle, so she deserves to be let in!

  18. roxster says:

Yeah I knew the helicopter story was BS right away since she seems ot be very intent on just being a normal student. Good for her, and i wish her luck with that. I don’t think it’ll be too tough, she seems very low key.

  19. Lady J says:

oh I <3 this girl she is such a great role model for all young ladies!! I hope she enjoys her freshman year…sigh…makes me miss college. :)

  20. Presh! says:

    She’s a doll : )

What a great role model for everyone, even for people older than her. *
