I suppose we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. And I understand fully that Michael Jackson was not convicted and Chris Brown was. However, he has seemingly taken some steps to rectify his behavior and I believe has even showed some signs of remorse. I understand that forgiveness is something that has to be earned back, but again I contest that there is a difference between Chris Brown the man and Chris Brown the artist. Granted, I do think it was fair for Doublemint to pull his endorsement, as he really isn’t in a position to serve as a role model right now, but again i stand behind my conviction that as long as he continues to put out good music I, for one, am going to continue to listen. And hopefully he will also work on his own problems and serve whatever his sentence is and end up coming out of this a better person, which really is something we should all hope for.

A convicted criminal doesn’t have to prove worthy of forgiveness unless he committed a crime against you. This is why convicted criminals try to reenter society and end up repeating because people like you Trent refuse to allow them to work or live their lives. If you don’t like to be judged then don’t judge others. We all don’t agree with everything a person do but that is life. That is why on job applications it clearly states an employer cannot deny a person employment because of their criminal history but we know that rule isn’t always followed. So let’s give Chris a chance, if the album sucks, it sucks.

Just noticed some of the debate here about Chris Brown’s worthiness, etc.

I totally respect your position on Chris, Trent. I don’t really feel he’s all that worthy myself – but I don’t write a celeb blog, so if you do really feel that way, that he’s not worthy of your fandom – then why not make the decision not create any future posts about him?

I understand that this blog is your job and part of that job must be to stay current and relevant and therefore post about the latest news, even if you don’t like it – BUT, you can still choose what you wish to report.

Posting about Chris Brown, whether you write it in a good light or not, still gives him media attention, which ultimately serves his career in one way or another. I honestly think that if you feel so strongly in your convictions about Chris Brown, his music, etc. – that you should consider standing by your convictions by not giving him more free publicity. Let other people write about / endorse him, it won’t make your blog any less popular or relevant in the eyes of your fans.

Just my humble opinion.

Yeah, the who MJ impersonation is a bit much. Kind of desperate if you ask me…but then, I get the sense that Chris Brown is a desperate person. I never cared much for him/his music before, and I certainly don’t care for it now. Maybe one day he’ll grow up.

@Michelle – Michael Jackson had a disturbing childhood. His brothers would have sex with girls in front of him as a child, his father beat him, he had a hardcore Jehova’s witness mother while being a superstar and sexually idolized by millions of girls/women. He had a mentally disturbing childhood that messed him up, not to mention an addiction.
That kind of life can logically and psychologically explain (though not forgive) his decay later in life. Chris Brown seemingly acknowledges his father’s abusive behavior and appears to have known all along it’s something deplorable what his father had done to his mother, but still acted in this violent manner. They are two very different lives and cannot be compared.

Here’s what I don’t understand: When did being a fan of someone’s work suddenly mean you are a fan of the person and their actions? Case in point: I’ve been a Michael Jackson fan my entire life, although I will be the first person to admit that the man himself had some serious issues and had completely lost touch with any sort of reality. Yet I was excited anytime he made new music and will continue to be a fan for the rest of my life. It doesn’t mean I supported any of his personal decisions.

Chris Brown hit Rihanna and that is deplorable and horrifying and he was not only punished but is now dealing with the aftermath. Does that make him a good person in my book? Far from it… does it effect me listening to his new album? Absolutely not. I was a fan before this happened and I will be a fan until his music is no longer an interest to me.

I’m a big fan of your blog Trent, but haven’t you said before that there is a difference between liking the artist and liking the person? I think you are graying the lines on this one.

some of you are saying that he’s only doing this cd cause he’s desperate…but you guys do realize this cd was pretty much half done before anything happened right? you guys didnt really think he’s be gone? he has a job to do. he has contracts with the label to complete.
you guys have to know this cd will do just fine. it may not go #1 like before…but lets just say he wont lose any sleep.

@Bill — No, Chris Brown has his judge and he decided not to stand trial before a jury for fear of imprisonment. The man was convicted of criminal assault on another person, this is not something that I made up … he is now a convict. When he pays his debt to society then he can start earning back forgiveness. Oh, Trent…you have a funny view on things at times. “Forgiven is earned when punishment is paid in full?” I guess none of us, including you, are forgiven for anything at that rate. And, let’s get real for a minute shall we? A “brutal little monster” is a bit of an overstretch. I know everyone in our mamby pamby culture where sissy boys are revered is completely bowled over by actions such as Brown’s, but you set yourself up as judge and jury over another, thus relegating yourself to the ranks of monsters.
