Today has been a bit of a nightmare. I just found out that someone back home in Michigan tried to open new cellphone lines on my accounts and I’ve been on the phone with customer service people on and off all morning trying to get it all sorted out. It feels like such a violation to have someone access your personal information in order to steal from you. I have had credit card fraud happen to me before but when something like this happens … you never get used to it and it never feels good. I’m happy that all the fraudulent activity (to my knowledge) has been curtailed but it still feels really shitty.
Last night I was able to hang out with Darion and Josh for dinner and catching up … so that was nice. We grabbed some grub and then made our way out for coffee and dessert afterward. It was really great getting to spend time with them. I have an appointment this afternoon but being on the phone all day has really put a dent in my work day. I’m gonna try and get as much work done while I can but … blah … it’s just been a pain in the ass. Let this be a lesson, pay attention to your online accounts … you never know when your info could be compromised. It’s a crappy feeling, let me tell you.

Good luck! I had that happen with a box of checks stolen out of my mailbox. It is a mess and really quite strange to see someone else doing their version of your signature.
Ok so not the same thing at all but Tuesday I had 8 missed calls from a Domino’s Delivery Guy who attempted to deliver a pizza to me 2 times…umm, I was out eating Thai with my friend, and I’ve never had Dominos, AND I’m 30. Do I really have people in my life who would order a pizza under my name and give out my cell phone number? It made me feel icky. AND I felt horrible for the poor delivery guy…tried to get in touch with him the next day but couldn’t.
Good luck – there’s a lot of people out there who do shitty things!
Best of luck Trent! I can’t imagine how icky that feels
My mom had that happen to her. She got a collection call from a company in Texas. (we are in Cali) She found out that someone opened A LOT of cell lines under her old married name who she has not been in 27 + yrs. It really freaked her out, not to mention the pain of cleaning up her otherwise impecable credit. My thoughts are with you Trent, its a horrible feeling, and NO ONE should feel violated!
That’s why I don’t like to do online banking or anything online related because it isn’t necessarily 100% safe. If that means waiting in line at the bank next to someone who has major BO then let it be. : /
Good thing you were alerted!
The day after buying some X-box doo-dad from the company online, my husband was called by our bank and told that several thousand dollars of mens & boys clothing and souvenirs from Italy (!) had been charged on that card in another state. We didn’t have to pay for the stuff, fortunately and we made sure the X-box people were notified….I have no idea if they caught the culprit so keep vigilant when dealing with THAT company online!
That sucks Trent. Nothing like being violated (by someone you know?). Its a sucky feeling. Glad to see you got it handled. Hopefully the day will just get better.
Aw I’m sorry Trent. I hope everything works out for you.
That’s horrible! Hang in there, Trent. The bad things that this person does will come back to them in the end.
I’m so sorry Trent
that totally sucks
I hope you have a great rest of the week and an even better weekend.
I’m sorry Trent =[ God, identity theft is always shitty. Someone took out a loan for $3000 under my name and didn’t pay it for a year, I didn’t find out about it until I got rejected for my student loans… & the worst part was that EVERYONE was so unhelpful! I almost couldn’t continue grad school because of it, it took a YEAR for them to finally figure everything out and officially get it off my credit report… I hope it goes faster for you, hang in there =/
The same thing happened to me. It’s quite a nightmare. I had 5 different cell lines opened in my name. The thing to do is: in CA, you can put an alert on your credit, which means that any time somebody runs your credit, they have to call you and verify that it’s you. Or, if that doesn’t work, you can put an actual block on your credit where NOBODY can access your credit, and only you can unlock it with a Pin#. I know it’s a pain, but it’s peace of mind. I had to put the block on my credit, because as soon as I’d catch wind of one account, another one would open. Good luck :)
Dang, I’m sorry to hear that! I hate stuff like that. Hope it wasn’t someone you knew, but either way I hope it gets cleared up for good!
Any idea how they accessed your information? That is scary…..
i’m so sorry trent. i know of a good service, protectmyid.com that helps you prevent against identity theft. with criminals these days, its so hard to keep on track of everything by yourself.
good luck!
That is awful, I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope it all works out!
Know how you feel… Going through something similar right now. Hang in there :)
Someone in Turkey conducted a phishing scam when I was 18 and stole 500 dollars from a bank account I only had 200 dollars in (talk about overdraft fees!). For and 18 year old, this was extremely scary and frustrating. The worst part is that the bank insisted I had to pay a $50 fee for “all the work they had to do to get my account back on track”. They insisted they sent out an e-mail warning customers about this phishing scam going on, but guess what, they sent that e-mail 1 day after I first reported it to them, so they insisted it was my fault for falling for a phishing scam. Needless to say, I closed my account with them asap. Good luck Trent! I hope it wasn’t someone you thought you could trust!
I’m sorry, Trent- that’s terrible.
2 of my friends were living in a duplex back in Ferndale, and they had a young female neighbor who was always really cool to them. A while after she moved out, they found out she had been into identity theft big time and was being sought out- she had basically been living that way. They were so thankful she didn’t take any of their mail, as it would have been super easy for her to do! I can’t imagine how infuriated I’d be if that happened to me..
