It turns out that I caught that nasty illness that has been plaguing folks at the recent Nine Inch Nails concerts (nicknamed the NINfluenza, or the Piggy Flu or the H1N1N Virus) and felt pretty crappy all day long yesterday … basically my ear, nose and throat were bothering me ;( I managed to rally in the evening to meet up with Darion, Josh so that we could all have dinner and see a movie … we decided on The September Issue:

The September Issue is a documentary on the creation of the single most important issue of Vogue magazine of the year … which also focuses on Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour, the single most important person in fashion. Many people have many different opinions on Wintour and this documentary seeks to enlighten those people. I found the movie entirely fascination and wholly entertaining. While Anna is the focus of the movie, Vogue creative director Grace Coddington is the breakaway star. A former model with an eye for beautiful photoshoot styling, Coddington manages to hold her own against Wintour’s brash ruling fist and together work as the perfect team to keep Vogue on top as the most important fashion publication that exists. Vogue Editor at Large Andre Leon Talley is also featured in the doc but he serves as comic relief … the man is just a clown but his belief in his own ferocity is what keeps him relevant … tho still silly. I really loved this movie … it isn’t quite the real life version of The Devil Wears Prada but it’s close. I was most surprised to see Wintour’s relationship with her daughter, who is studying to be a lawyer and has no interest in fashion. Classic!! I loved the movie, I think you will, too.
Today, David and I fly off to NYC for a quick trip. I’m planning to attend the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards tomorrow … as long as I don’t die from my illness. I’m feeling better today so here’s hoping. I have a couple more posts to come and then we’re off. I’ll be comin’ atcha from the East Coast all week long next week!!
*NOTE: People, please read more carefully – I DO NOT have Swine Flu/H1N1. I seem to have caught whatever has been going around at the NIN shows and joked about what folks have been calling it but, to clarify, I don’t have Swine Flu.
