While professing his love of Def Leppard
Jared Leto Suffers A Nip Slip

Here are a couple hawt photos of Jared Leto, of Jordan Catalano fame, enjoying the Malibu Country Mart in Malibu, CA yesterday morning. As you can see, Leto is a huge Def Leppard fan and was proud to show his devotion on his cut-up t-shirt … fortunately for us, said cut-up shirt offered a wee peek at his unfortunate wardrobe malfunction:

Ain’t it just the Dickens when those pesky nipples slip out inadvertently from one’s clothing? The practice seems to happen more to women than it does to men but, as you can see, dudes are just as vulnerable to the nip slip as chicks are. I should also mention that Jared and his brother Shannon Leto were in attendance at the Nine Inch Nails show at The EchoPlex in LA, CA last night … I don’t recall that he was wearing this shirt, tho. Truth be told, I wouldn’t mind if he wore this short or ones exactly like it more often. Three cheers for nip slips!

Emma Watson Arrives At Brown University

Emma Watson, who will be a Freshman in college Fall, made her quiet arrival in Providence, RI this weekend to acquaint herself with her new university, Brown. Here are photos of Emma on campus (chillin’ with new friends and with her boyfriend Jay Barrymore) on the Brown University campus this weekend:

‘Harry Potter’ star Emma Watson dressed down for her first day at university in America at the weekend. But any attempt at blending in with her fellow freshmen at Brown University failed when the 19-year-old actress reportedly turned up in a helicopter. Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the blockbuster series, will study literature at the prestigious Ivy League college in Providence, Rhode Island. Miss Watson, who looked anything but the global movie star in simple denim shorts and a white T-shirt, is likely to have to get used to having her own fan club on campus. Classes start on Wednesday after Saturday’s check-in and several days of orientation and activities. Before hitting the books, new students can attend yoga and games night, a midnight organ concert and kickball game. But it isn’t all fun: The students will also get the chance to ‘take part in discussions on diversity, sexual assault and Brown’s role in the transatlantic slave trade’. She said recently: ‘But I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known as “Emma Watson, the student from the UK” rather than “Emma Watson who starred in those Harry Potter films”.’ Without confirming that Watson is actually attending Brown this autumn, Mark Nickel, the school’s director of communications, said: ‘We do whatever we need to do to ensure safety and privacy, and that applies pretty much to all students.’ Asked if the school might take extra precautions to protect a young wizard, he added: ‘Sure.’ It is one of the top colleges in the United States, boasting alumni including former presidents, diplomats, royalty and a heavy sprinkling of celebrities’ offspring. Most recently, George Harrison’s son, Dhani, attended Brown. Brown was recently been ranked number 1 for America’s ‘Happiest College Students’, according to the Princeton Review 2010 rankings. It was also named ‘the most fashionable school in the Ivy League’ by the fashion trade journal Women’s Wear Daily. Miss Watson achieved straight As in her A-levels. However, she’s not completely leaving the world of showbiz behind. She will have to return to the studio during her holidays to film the last two instalments in the Harry Potter series.

I understand there was a ridiculous rumor that Emma arrived at Brown U via helicopter (which this article from the Daily Mail repeats) which turned out to be wildly untrue. I don’t expect that there will be much more ridiculous rumors flying around during her first term at Brown but, well, one can never be sure. I’m quite confident that once the novelty having Emma Watson on campus dies down (very soon, I expect) she will be able to blend in with the rest of her classmates and enjoy quiet college life. Welcome to the US, Emma! You’re an honorary Yankee now!!

Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To The EchoPlex, LA

Last night Nine Inch Nails played the second of the 4 final dates of the Wave Goodbye Tour at The EchoPlex in Los Angeles, CA in front of a sold out house of about 700 fans. Last night’s venue was supposed to be the last one of the tour but due to illness and rescheduling, it became the 3rd to last show of the tour:

As you might expect, Trent Reznor brought not only a blistering set of songs but also brought out a special guest to perform with NIN on stage … providing a rock solid, raucous show for the audience. After the jump, check out a few of the photos I took at last night’s concert, see the full show setlist and watch video of NIN performing I Die: You Die with Gary Numan on vocals …

Nine Inch Nails Does ‘The New Yorker’ Magazine

Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails is the focus of an article published in this week’s issue of The New Yorker which reviews one of the NIN shows that recently took place at Terminal 5 in NYC and expounds more broadly on TR‘s career in music. The piece is a very good one for introducing those unfortunately unfamiliar with Nine Inch Nails (all 5 of you out there) and is, IMHO, a nice send off now that NIN won’t be performing live at the close of the Wave Goodbye Tour. Here are some exerpts from the New Yorker article on Nine Inch Nails:

In 1988, a twenty-three-year-old Cleveland resident named Trent Reznor decided to record several demos of his songs. He’d been playing in local bands since 1984, and had learned a fair amount about recording at a local studio named Right Track, where he’d started as a janitor and eventually become an engineer. Reznor was hoping to be signed to the independent Chicago label Wax Trax and to put out records alongside the aggressive electronic-music bands he admired, like Front 242 and Ministry. Instead, Reznor’s demos became the bulk of an album called “Pretty Hate Machine,” which was released on the TVT label under the band name Nine Inch Nails and went on to sell more than three million copies. Over the past twenty years, Reznor has produced seven Nine Inch Nails albums, and has written, played, and engineered almost all of the music himself. (Additional drummers have appeared on some of the albums, along with a smattering of guest instrumentalists and singers) … Nine Inch Nails and bands in their loose cohort have not traditionally been given much room on the radio; aside from a few hits on MTV, this is music that for the past two decades has lived in the headphones of angry teens. The typical Reznor topics are loathing and self-loathing. “Meet Your Master,” from “Year Zero” (2007), sounds like the cry of a downtrodden nation, or, at least, a downtrodden high-school basketball team: “You’ll do as you’re told, used to be the leader, now comes the time to serve. Maybe we’ll show some mercy, maybe you’ll get what you deserve.” It’s a direct echo of lines from a song on “Pretty Hate Machine”: “Head like a hole, black as your soul, I’d rather die than give you control. Bow down before the one you serve, you’re going to get what you deserve.” Reznor doesn’t have a particularly grim backstory—he grew up with his grandparents, liked to pole fish with his grandfather, took piano lessons, and played Judas Iscariot in his high school’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar”—but he has written some very durable “Fuck you, Man!” songs … Reznor is completing a brief tour, which he has dubbed the “Wave Goodbye” tour; he claims that these will be the last Nine Inch Nails live shows for a long time. Sick of “repeating the same day over and over again,” he will concentrate on writing music and on developing a futuristic TV series based on “Year Zero.” Because his songs rely so heavily on looped samples and relentless, machine-made rhythms, Reznor has had to find musicians skillful enough to play along with lockstep noise. For this tour, he has assembled his strongest lineup yet. His current drummer, twenty-one-year-old Ilan Rubin, auditioned for Reznor last year by sending video clips of himself performing Nine Inch Nails songs. At Terminal 5, all I could see of Rubin was a mane of curly brown hair and long arms whipping through the air. (Reznor told the crowd, “I haven’t been able to find a set list yet that can kill him.”) The bassist, Justin Meldal-Johnson, switches easily between various electric and acoustic basses, and also plays keyboards and guitar with the more reserved stage presence of someone raised on indie rock. Robin Finck, who played guitar in one incarnation of Guns N’ Roses, reproduces some of the dozens of harsh guitar tones Reznor has written over the years, and is not averse to swinging his guitar on its strap like a pendulum and skipping across the stage when Reznor isn’t using it. Reznor spends most of each show planted at the front of the stage with his legs in a runner’s stance, gripping the microphone stand with both hands, now and then pogoing with the crowd. He takes phenomenal care in creating his myriad sonic hues, and presents them onstage without pauses or missteps. He’s not big on improvisation—a Nine Inch Nails performance has the smooth continuity of a Broadway show or a well-executed airlift. When the band played “March of the Pigs,” the guitars and screams and strobe lights all fired at the same moment: “Step right up! March! Push! Crawl right up on your knees!” Songs like “March of the Pigs” typify Reznor’s particular talents: lyrics and beats that are simple enough to encourage a visceral response, set against a structured noise that is strange enough to keep things from becoming too predictable.

This superbly written piece can be read in full HERE and I urge all NIN fans, whether they are familiar with The New Yorker or not, to check out this piece. While many feel that Trent Reznor and NIN speak to the disenfranchised and angry, I think it’s important to clarify that that aggressive clarity comes from a place of intelligence … which The New Yorker highlights adeptly. It’s a great read and I am so happy that The New Yorker decided to review the Terminal 5 show and enlighten on NIN as a whole. Having my favorite magazine publish a favorable article on my favorite band is quite a treat!!

Sarah Jessica Parker & Her Twin Girls Hit The Streets Of NYC

Now that Sex and the City 2 is back in production on the public streets of NYC, NY, Sarah Jessica Parker is back on the scene in a semi-regular way again these days … here are pics of her fabulousness strolling the streets of NYC this weekend as well as a photo of her beautiful newborn baby twin daughters, Marion Loretta and Tabitha Hodge, doing the same NYC strolling — the only thing is that they were not strolling together:

SJP was out and about — sans wedding ring, I might add — with a friend this weekend while her newborn daughters were out for a stroll with their nanny. I believe this is the first time we’ve seen the little darlings since SJP and hubby Matthew Broderick released that photo of the happy family (with son James Wilke) back in June. They are little dolls, aren’t they? I’m not sure if we’ll be seeing any photos of the girls with their mother any time soon considering her new shooting schedule but any glimpse of them is welcome in my book.

Ryan Gosling Struts His Stuff In SoCal

Ryan Gosling has been keeping very bizzy this Labor Day weekend … no rest for the weary, I suppose. When last we saw photos of Mr. Gosling, he was working hard at rehearsals for his band Dead Man’s Bones who are preparing to hit the road for their first-ever US (and Canada) tour … today we get to see Ryan making his exit from the gym yesterday, clearly happy to show off his bare arms:

Le sigh. Now that Jake Gyllenhaal has saddled himself in happy bliss with Reese Witherspoon, he has lost some of his luster in mine eye … I think Ryan Gosling makes a nice replacement for the Le Sigh category, don’t you think? I suspect Ryan is planning to stay in tip top shape for his coming US tour … and for that I say, Woot!!
