There’s A Vacancy At Melrose Place

The CW has launched a pretty cool viral campaign to promote the series premiere of the new version of Melrose Place which debuts on their network next Tuesday September 8. MelrosePlaceApts.com has been launched as a “realtor website” where you can tour the apartments at Melrose Place and even apply to rent a unit there:

The fun site has a virtual tour of the apts. at Melrose Place, an actual application that you can fill out for fun and links to Twitter accounts for the residents who already live there (ie. the characters that will appear on the show). As far as viral marketing goes, this new campaign is pretty sweet. After the jump, check out video of realtor Mickey Richards giving a tour of 4616 Melrose Place

The King of Pop is finally buried today
Michael Jackson To Be Laid To Rest At Last

After passing away suddenly on June 25 from what has been ruled as lethal “injection by another”, Michael Jackson is finally being laid to rest in the Great Mausoleum at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, CA later on today. You may recall that MJ was memorialized in a lavish ceremony at the Staples Center in July but, at long last, he is finally being laid to eternal rest in a more private and somber service tonight:

One month after a lavish public memorial for Michael Jackson, the pop singer’s family prepared to inter him privately Thursday in a mausoleum filled with legendary entertainers. On Wednesday, a judge said Jackson’s estate will bear the funeral costs, which were characterized by an attorney as “extraordinary.” It was disclosed in court that 12 burial spaces were being purchased at Forest Lawn Glendale, about eight miles north of downtown Los Angeles, but no details were offered on how they would be used. Jackson will rest in the cemetery’s Great Mausoleum with Hollywood stars including Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and W.C. Fields. Jackson’s funeral won’t end the legal drama over his drug-induced death at age 50, which authorities have labeled a homicide. No criminal charges have been filed over his June 25 death, which came on the cusp of London concerts meant to restore Jackson to his once-incandescent stardom. Last week, coroner’s officials said they believed Jackson’s death was homicide, and his death certificate has been amended to reflect that. It cites “injection by another” as the fatal injury. Investigators have said a mix of the powerful anesthetic propofol and another sedative killed the pop singer. The new record lists “acute propofol intoxication” as the main cause of death and “benzodiazepine effect” as another significant contributor. The certificate does not mention Dr. Conrad Murray, who was Jackson’s personal physician. He told detectives that he gave the singer a series of sedatives and propofol to try to help him sleep. The coroner’s determination of homicide makes it easier for prosecutors to seek criminal charges, but does not necessarily mean a crime was committed.

Surely all of the members of the Jackson family and very close friends will be in attendance tonight and there are wild rumors running rampant about who may be performing at the service tonight … but whatever the case may be, MJ will finally be allowed to rest in his eternal home here on Earth. Tho, even that may not actually be the case … there are some pushing for Jackson‘s Neverland Ranch to become his final, final resting spot so his interment at Forest Lawn may actually not be eternal after all. Marc Malkin from E! News is reporting that the Jackson family is planning to make video footage of the mourners at today’s burial service available to the media … well, so much for a quiet and private service.

For a solo artist
Madonna’s ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour Is The Most Successful Tour In History

All hail the Queen of Pop!!! Live Nation has just released a press release announcing the amazing news that Madonna‘s Sticky & Sweet World Tour has become the most successful tour in HISTORY by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows in front of approximately 8.5 million fans in 32 countries and grossing over $400 million, Madonna now holds the record for having the most successful tour … wow!

Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” Tour made history as it wrapped up last night with two final shows in Tel Aviv, Israel at Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park, September 1 and 2). The Material Girl more than lives up to her name, as her tour becomes the most successful tour ever by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows since its launch in August 2008, Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” has drawn more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries and has grossed US$408 million, it was announced today by Live Nation, the tour’s global producer. “Sticky & Sweet” is also the second highest grossing tour of all time. Madonna set an attendance record for the biggest crowds in history in Zurich, Switzerland, where she drew the largest audience ever assembled for a show in that country (72,000). Her Gothenburg, Sweden show, seen by 119,000 fans, broke the record for highest grossing multiple shows in the country’s history. In Helsinki, Finland, “Sticky & Sweet” sold more than 85,000 tickets, making it the biggest single show by an artist in history for all of Scandinavia. Other highlights on the tour included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina (256,000), Santiago, Chile (146,000), Sao Paulo, Brazil (203,000), Tallinn, Estonia (72,000), Warsaw, Poland (79,000), Bucharest, Romania (69,000), and Sofia, Bulgaria (54,000). “With ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially,” said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring. “Sticky & Sweet” broke Madonna’s previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist with her 2006 Confessions Tour, which grossed US$194 million Madonna’s upcoming CD, “Celebration” the definitive Madonna collection – is scheduled to be released at the end of September.

Damn … those are some stats. Only the Rolling Stones have been able to generate more money (raking in $558 million on their Bigger Bang Tour of 2005-2007) but it is clear that when it comes to solo artists, no one can hold a candle to Madonna. Say what you will about Maddy, but she has worked her ass off on this tour and deserves all the fruits of her success. Congratulations, Madonna!

Family and friends say goodbye
A Final Farewell To Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein

Family and close friends of Adam DJ AM Goldstein, who was found dead in his NYC apartment last Friday, gathered together at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary here in Los Angeles, CA to pay their respects one last time to the late DJ. After a quiet service, Goldstein was buried and laid to eternal rest:

DJ AM was laid to rest in a private ceremony Wednesday (September 2) in Los Angeles … Guests, including AM’s girlfriend Hayley Wood and friend/ collaborator Travis Barker, former fiancee Nicole Richie and Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden, gathered at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles at around 3 p.m. local time for the funeral service, according to the report. AM (real name: Adam Goldstein) was found by police in his New York apartment on Friday, dead from an apparent drug overdose, although initial autopsy results were inconclusive. The service took place in the mortuary and moved outside at approximately 4 p.m., according to the report. Barker — who had been on tour with Blink-182 but postponed three shows in the wake of AM’s death — reportedly paid his respects and threw dirt on the coffin. He and Wood reportedly hugged at one point, and walked side by side with AM’s family and friends. AM will also be remembered by family and friends in a private memorial service scheduled for Thursday at the Hollywood Palladium, the same venue where he performed with Jay-Z in October of last year, a month after he and Travis Barker survived a fiery plane crash in South Carolina. The Palladium memorial is being described as “a gathering to celebrate the life of our friend Adam Goldstein,” and will reportedly pay tribute to his struggle with addiction, with a format that will be in the style of an open 12-step meeting.

And with that … DJ AM rests in eternal slumber. It seems like everything happened so quickly … we only just learned that Goldstein had passed away and now he’s already been laid to rest … gone in an instant, it seems. I hope that the memorial planned in his memory tonight at the Hollywood Palladium will honor him well … his death is such a tragedy. Rest well, Adam … you will be missed.
