‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine Pays Tribute To Both Farrah Fawcett & Michael Jackson
Vanity Fair magazine is paying tribute to the late Charlie’s Angel Farrah Fawcett and the late King of Pop Michael Jackson on the cover and in the pages of the September issue of their mag (on newsstands August 11). Both Farrah and MJ will share equal coverage on the magazine cover as 50% of the printing run will feature Farrah on the cover and 50% will feature MJ on the cover, subscriber copies are also split 50/50 with random covers arriving subscriber mailboxes:
Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson are getting equal attention in September’s Vanity Fair. Half of the copies will feature a cover photograph of Fawcett by Bruce McBroom; the other half will feature a cover photograph of Jackson by Annie Leibovitz. Subscribers will get one of the two at random, but the magazines, which will include the same content, will be on newsstands nationwide Aug. 11. USA TODAY runs down talking points from the articles on the two celebrities, who died June 25.
Here is Farrah’s VF magazine cover along with excerpts from the coverstory:

Love. About her relationship with longtime companion Ryan O’Neal: “She’s always been the real love of his life and he’s always been the real love of her life. She never stopped loving him.” — BFF Alana Stewart
Fame. About that 1970s’ hair: “She said, ‘I can’t see to the right or left, and that way I don’t have to see people looking at me.’ ” — O’Neal recounting Fawcett’s response when he asked
Career. “Careers have to be very carefully plotted, but she was not driven by that singular focus on the next step and the next step.” — Leonard Goldberg, who co-produced Charlie’s Angels, which Fawcett left after one season
Odd behavior. On her appearance with David Letterman in which she sounded incoherent: “I was the pothead; she’s one of those people who flossed every night and took care of herself. When I saw her on Letterman, I thought she was acting. She was selling Playboy magazine, and she thought she was being Playmate-ish.” — O’Neal
Family. On O’Neal’s “devotion” to Fawcett: “My dad’s only goal was to make sure he would be in the will. It was so disgustingly transparent as soon as she found out she was terminal. I consider him a vulture presiding over a carcass.” — Griffin O’Neal
“I hate him! He knows I have money. I made a tremendous amount of money on real estate, more than I deserve.” — Ryan O’Neal’s response
After the jump, check out Michael Jackson’s VF coverphoto and read some excerpts from his coverstory as well …

Love. “No I don’t date, no. I like girls and everything, but [laughs] … Oh, you think I’m one of those? No! I’m just not that interested right now.” — Jackson in February 1977
Fame. “And a lot of entertainers don’t know this, but interviewers help entertainers 100%. I don’t mean promotion-wise; I mean like when they ask you questions, it helps you to look at your future yourself.” — Jackson in February 1977
Career. On the first mix of the Thriller album: “It was terrible. And I cried at the listening party. I said, ‘I’m sorry — we can’t release this.’ … Everybody at the record company was screaming that we had to have it out and there was a deadline. … So we re-did a mix a day. … We were overworked, but it all came out OK.” — Jackson in 1984
Odd behavior. On his plastic surgeries: “You know, many stars do that, but the press picks on certain people. I think if more people could afford it, they’d do it, too. I see nothing wrong with it. You have to feel good about yourself.” — Sister Janet Jackson in October 1986
Family. On conflicts with family: “I’ve always tried to do everything first-class. Use people who are the best. But it was a different story with the family. And the fact that it was the biggest tour that ever happened, and my success had been so overwhelming, it’s as if they’re wanting to throw darts at you, too.” — Michael Jackson in 1984 after the Jacksons’ Victory Tour
On Michael’s accounts that he was not allowed to participate in sports and dating: “We all rehearsed constantly, we rehearsed together, and that’s how we got to where we are today.” — Brother Marlon Jackson in an October 1987 interview
To be honest, none of this is new to me and I’m sure it’s not new to many of y’all. This tribute issue to both Farrah and Michael seem to be just the latest in a string of magazine tributes that are being marketed as collector’s issues. I do commend Vanity Fair for giving equal treatment and coverage to both stars … while there have been no shortage of tribute magazines to the late Michael Jackson, it’s nice that VF decided to treat Farrah’s death with the same coverage. I’m prolly gonna pass on this issue but I’m sure there are many folks out there who will be wantin’ to pick up their copy … or two.

I read a few more excerpts from the Farrah article in People a little while ago and they really make Ryan O’Neal seem like a horrible person. He talks about leaving her when she was going through medapause, wishing that he had been kinder to her, and hitting on his own daughter (accidently) at Farrah’s funeral. Either they just picked through for the worst quotes, or he really stuck his foot in his mouth during that whole interview.

I saw the woman who wrote the Farrah article on the Today show, and she says that at Farrah’s funeral RO actually hit on a blond who threw herself in to his arms. Turns out it was Tatum and he didn’t recognize her….

Ryan O’Neal sounds like a real douche, hitting on his own daughter at Farrah’s funeral? How tacky.

It should be a Farrah cover only. This Michael Jackson overexposure is beyond tired

I agree Farrah Fawcett should be the only cover. Michael has been on everything since june 25th. Im so over the Michael crap. The focus needs to go back to Farrah. She fought to live and left a legacy of courage and strength
Michael chose to put his life at risk with drugs and threw it away.
FARRAH DESERVES MORE THEN WHAT SHE HAS GOTTEN.
ENOUGH ON MJ ALREADY
