The 2009 MTV VMA Nominees Have Been Announced
Beyoncé & Lady Gaga are tied with 9 noms, Britney nabs 7

It’s that time of the year again when MTV starts gearing up for their annual Video Music Awards, this year taking place on September 13 in NYC. The nominations for the 2009 MTV VMAs have been announced and it is my EXTREME pleasure to announce that my girl Britney Spears has garnered 7 nominations this year, including one for the biggest award of the night (which she WON last year) — Video of the Year!

Britney Spears has done it again … our favorite comeback kid has been nominated for not one, not two, not three…well, seven MTV Video Music Awards. Last year, the pop princess made a brilliant return to the VMA stage when she took home three Moon Man trophies for “Piece of Me.” And while we hate to remember this… Could ya believe it was only two years ago that Spears solidified her trainwreck status at the VMAs in Las Vegas with her disastrous performance of “Gimme More” in front of an audience that included Megan Fox? This year’s awards will be handed out and broadcast live on MTV from New York’s Radio City Music Hall Sept. 13. Russell Brand returns as host. No word yet if Brit will be added to this year’s performance roster, which already includes Taylor Swift, Pink, Green Day and Muse. Additional nominees and performers are expected to be announced later today.

Here is the MTV press release about today’s 2009 MTV VMAs nominees announcement:

MTV today announced the nominees for the “2009 MTV Video Music Awards.” The ladies lead the pack as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga earn nine nominations each for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It)” “Poker Face” and “Paparazzi” respectively. Britney Spears follows with an impressive seven combined nominations for “Womanizer” and “Circus.” Jay-Z, Green Day, Eminem, Kanye West and Coldplay will each find themselves vying for several moonmen on the big night. In addition, Latin Grammy® award-winning Puerto Rican duo Wisin Y Yandel, rapper Drake and rockers Kings of Leon are a few of the artists who have received their first VMA nomination. Included in the impressive line-up of first-time nominees is rapper Asher Roth who finds himself up against one of today’s most notorious artists Eminem, in the “Best Hip-Hop” category. As previously announced, Russell Brand will host and set to perform are Green Day, P!nk, Taylor Swift and Muse. Katy Perry, Ne-Yo and Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford are confirmed presenters. The “2009 MTV Video Music Awards” will air live on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 9PM (Live ET/Tape delayed PT) and on Sunday, September 20 at 5pm ET with Spanish subtitles on MTV Tr3ìs. MTV will announce additional performers, nominees and presenters on a later date. Viewers can vote for general VMAs categories, including “Best New Artist,” by visiting vma.mtv.com beginning Tuesday, August 4. “Best New Artist” voting continues through the show, live on September 13. In addition, Verizon Wireless subscribers can vote by texting VMA to 97979 (standard message rates apply.) MTV, Pepsi and Rock Band™ have created a new category at this year’s VMAs, “Best Performance in a Pepsi Rock Band Video” that allows fans, for the first time, to win their very own Moonman. This summer, contestants entered their original Rock Band™ music videos, which fans will then vote on to select the ultimate winner. Viewers can help decide which band will travel to the “2009 MTV Video Music Awards,” walk the red carpet, receive their Moonman, and be featured in an MTV produced promotional spot airing the night of the show by logging on to www.PepsiRockBand.com from August 8 – September 1.

Click HERE to see the full list of 2009 MTV VMA nominees. This is amazing news!! I happily remember that Brit Brit cleaned up at last year’s VMAs (her best ever) and I have no doubt she’ll do very well this year again :) MTV asked me to be on the nominee voting panel for VMA nominees this year and you can bet your sweet patoot that I cast my vote for all of my fave Video Music artists ;) I should also mention that Eminem and Kanye West have been nominated in the same 4 categories this year (Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Hip Hop Video and Best Special Effects) so they’ll be going head-to-head all night long. I am very excited for this year’s VMAs … it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Brit Brit were to triumphantly take the stage at this year’s award show to remind the world that she is back on top! Again, the 2009 MTV VMAs take place in NYC on September 13 … I’m already trying to figure out my plans to attend (after all, it was at last year’s MTV VMAs where I got to meet Robert Pattinson before all the crazy hype got started when Twilight was released in November). Should Britney be back on stage, I want to be there in person to root her on!

    these things are still on….yawn.

  2. Why does a channel that doesn’t show videos have video awards? That would be like Cartoon Network passing out awards for porn, it just doesn’t make sense. I’ll definitely have to DVR these so I can skip past the 90% of it that sucks!!

  3. kiddo says:

    This is Beyonce’s year!!!
No greater video than Single Ladies!

  4. Bleeding Ears says:

You use to be cool MTV…. what happened man?

  5. Tracy says:

The VMAs were so awful last year. I hope Russell Brand is better this year.

    2 words: who cares.

  7. nicole says:

i really wouldnt hold much to her awards last year..they seemed like pity awards for her doc that she was doing, cause i think we can all say that she didnt deserve em for the songs that were nominated ya know? and i have a feeling that she wont clean up as much this year

  8. jj says:

The VMA’s don’t make much sense to me. To this day, Britney’s best video is for TOXIC. The Piece of Me video does not even come close to her older ones (Slave for U, Everytime…). Yet she won for Piece of Me because of her personal life. She should have won long ago for Toxic.

I’ll probably still watch this year though lol I’m looking forward to the Eminem vs Kanye West thing. Two babies battling it out.

  9. Jadedkitten says:

I feel like I’m the only person that hated single ladies anyway only watching for Green Day and Britney….and Russell Brown lol

  10. vanessa says:

i just looked back. now i see how little taylor was in twilight. you are so lucky

  11. Janelle says:

@ Nicole – you couldn’t be more right.
I’m sorry, I personally didn’t like Russell Brown or find him funny. The awards last year weren’t even awards because American music videos have gone downhill – they’re all placement ads now. There’s no point to this awards show.

  12. CB says:

There is no way B won’t win it all for “Single Ladies”. It was hands down the best video of the year.
I thought Russell Brand was a’ight in the bits of VMA I watched last year. Calling Bush “that retarded cowboy fellow” really made my day.

  13. Laura says:

Britney better win at least for best pop video. The video of the year will be tough – as much as I dislike Beyonce Sinlge Ladies was a pretty memorable video.

  14. michi says:

    BEST CHOREOGRAPHY
Beyoncé: “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”

    WTF??

so now copying choreography makes you eligible for an award?
    hell no, not right.

  15. tOnnY says:

I’ll kill myself if BeYAWNce wins video of the year, i don’t care if she wins the rest of the awards but Britney TOTALLY deserves it, best comeback ever!!, & Circus will probably win a couple of awards for best direction or something like that…

  16. Steven says:

OH SHIT! Mariah Carey is scheduled to perform at these awards…..Eminem in the audience! OMG….I can’t wait to see what happens!?!?!

  17. Paranel says:

Britney deserves to win all 7 . Her album “Circus” is A+++++++++.

  18. J says:

Out of choreography.. well Brit beat Beyonce in MTV AUS Awards. But i believe LOVE SEX MAGIC had the best. Single Ladies, you have to admit does have good choreography. But yes, it was pretty much copied.

Love Sex Magic, has it all though! So that should definitely be front contender i say. Circus wasn’t anything spectacular but eh, wouldn’t care if she wins!

I hoped Circus would be Video of the Year not Womanizer, but there both amazing! So i hope Brit wins, she def deserves it. I mean, how many views on MTV, YouTube & everything did Womanizer OR Circus gets. MILLIONS! She has to be the most spoke about person again this year. Her tour, music videos, album EVERYTHING!

I think Circus deserves some technical awards. Editing or Directing. But i think Directing will go to SIngle Ladies. I think Single Ladies doesn’t deserve special effects, wteff is that about?!

Someone said something about if Perez got to decide some winners, Gaga will win all hers. Thats unfort. She deserves like New Video & perhaps Female vid, but not Vid of the year. But yea she does deserve at least one, she has done very well for herself but becoming way overrated with her big ego.

I dont get how Brit has 7 noms including Vid of the Year but misses out on Female Video?! Thats just stupid! Fair enough not wanting all categories having the some people, but its stupid if Beyonce & Lady Gaga do… hmmm.

Bring on Mariah kicking Em’s ass!

  19. nicole says:

i have a feeling…between gaga & beyonce…they’ll clean up anything thier in. i honestly dont think britney has a chance against them. but this is MTV..and you never know how they work things.
