Blah. I spent all of yesterday holed up here in our place because I wasn’t feelin’ too hot. I’m not ready to use the “s” word just yet but suffice to say, I was in no condition to go out and hang out with anyone. Instead, I stayed in and finished reading Harry Potter and the Philsopher’s Stone and started reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:

Reading the Harry Potter books again, after reading them all and knowing how the whole saga ends, gives new meaning to a lot of the events in the earlier books. I’m just amazed at JK Rowling‘s genius. She had a plan from the beginning and orchestrated the HP book series masterfully. I cannot find one inconsistency … well, except for the fact that in Book 1, Hagrid tells Dumbledore and McGonagall that he borrowed the motorcycle he used to deliver baby Harry Potter to the Dursley’s home from Sirius Black. Unless Hagrid borrowed his cycle before Sirius was imprisoned in Azkaban, this little plot point doesn’t work … or does it? To be honest, it’s the only thing that made me think whether or not it fit in with the rest of HP lore.
That’s pretty much it … I didn’t do much else … but go to bed early and sleep late. I’m feeling better today, I have some errands to take care of and a piece of crap BlackBerry to replace so I’ll deffo be heading out shortly. Darion wanted to get some people out for a movie later, I’m gonna try and do that too. Hope all y’all’s weekends have been more exciting than mine ;)

Me again, for those interested there’s this amazing site that catalogs everything that JKR has ever said or explained about the books: http://www.accio-quote.org/. It’s pretty awesome.

Sirius Black wasnt put into Azkaban till after the Potters where Murdered i think if i remember right he was put in there for murdering Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) which he never did
Two areas of perceived inconsistencies – 1. How does Harry get the Marauder’s map back after the fake Mad Eye Moody takes it away? 2. SIrius hates his family and is hated by them, so how does the letter for Lilly Potter when Harry is a year old end up in his bedroom at his parent’s house?
I just re-read the series very recently and I believe in Book 4 it is explained as to how Hagrid got the bike. Apparent;y Sirius showed up that night on his back wanting to take Harry because he was his godfather but since Hagrid had orders from Dumbledore to take him to the Dursley’s, Siruis let Hagrid have the bike and said “he won’t be needing it anymore”. I hope that clears it up and doesn’t give away too many spoilers :-)
I think how that whole part works is that Dumbledore found Harry in the ruin of the house and gave him to Hagrid before they realized it was Peter who gave the Potter’s up. Yay for Harry Potter but the way! I love reading the books… especially the whole way through… you get to pick up on the little things like Ron and Hermione’s change in their feelings for each other and even how Harry begins to notice Ginny as a person and not Ron’s little sister way before the 6th book. Ingenius. I read in the book by the editor of the Leaky Cauldron that she has tons more written about what happened between the end of book 7 and the epilogue, like who George marries and everything… I would love to read all of that even though obviously there is no dark wizard to defeat!
Trent, this is so funny that you noticed this because I just started rereading them too and I noticed the exact same inconsistency! – my friend and I actually had a very long discussion about it haha
Hagrid gets the bike BEFORE Sirius goes to jail. Sirius shows up at the Potter house and knew he would probably be linked to the killings and gives Hagrid the bike, even though Hagrid knew the bike meant the world to Sirius.
So, he didn’t get it until BEFORE Sirius goes to jail.
JK doesn’t make mistakes :)
Everyone here answered the little plot question you had. Hope you feel better soon.

I just finished re-reading the HP series too prior to July 15th. It’s my third time reading it in order as a whole, it always amazes me just how incredibly brilliant Jo is.
The one and only mistake I have ever found is that in the first book Dumbledore uses a “Put-Outer” and in the seventh it is the “Deluminator.” They are the same thing though, these lighters.
My only hope is that my husband reads the whole series before the next movie. There is nothing more annoying than sitting in the movie theater and being asked a question every two minutes about why something happens by someone who needs more info.
Maybe I will just go to the next ones alone first. My husband is annoying.
I remember there being another inconsistency in book 4 when harry and voldemorts wands connect. If I remember correctly when the “ghosts” came out of the wands James came out before lily or something like that, which later Jo said was a mistake on her part.
