‘Project Runway’s Triumphant Return
The TV Guide

Lord have MERCY it is hot and humid here in NYC. I managed to get out and into SoHo late yesterday afternoon but I about suffocated from the muggy/humid air. Thank goodness the subway train I used was air-conditioned cuz I might’ve died right on the spot. Whew. I dunno how NYers make it thru the Summers here … they should spend the Summer in SoCal ;) I ended up just staying in last night to watch all the new Project Runway programming on Lifetime TV:

The Project Runway: All-Star Challenge aired at 8PM, the first ep of the new season of PR aired at 10PM and the new series Models of the Runway aired at 11PM — it was a full night of Project Runway fun! After the jump, check out some of my musings from last night’s TV so as to keep the spoilers out of sight for those of you who have yet to watch the eps …

I think the biggest relief from new season of Project Runway was how much it looked exactly like the previous eps of PR. The graphics, the music, the scene transitions — the new PR looks exactly like the old PR. The All-Star Challenge was fun but it felt a little lacking for me. Santino Rice, who I love, seemed intent on overpowering the show with his over-the-top attitude … it was not entertaining. The interaction between the designers was pretty boring as well. I was so impressed by Chris March‘s showing in last night’s competition. Altho he slept thru what looked like 60% of the show, he managed to design some pretty fantastic looks. BUT, I was kinda pissed that Korto ended up losing to Daniel V. I totally felt her collection looked much more stylish than Daniel‘s did … but, c’est la vie.

The new Project Runway, which was filmed last Summer in LA, was really fun. Sure, we need to warm up to the new designers (just like we have to every season) but overall, PR hasn’t lost it’s touch at all. Thank gods!! I don’t have any faves just yet so it’ll be fun to watch and see who will become my faves of season 6. The new series Models of the Runway is a cute little weekly bonus. It allows fans to see another side of the competition that we’ve previously not been privy to. I dunno that it’ll be as big a draw as PR is but, as I said, it’s a nice bonus. I am very relieved that Lifetime has put so much effort in making the Project Runway transition to their network as seamless as possible. I think fans will be very pleased with the results. It may still take some time to get the audience transferred over to the new network but if they continue to provide the same Project Runway goodness that we’ve come to expect, we’ll keep tuning in. It’s GREAT to have the show back on the air :)

I have a few things to do in the city this afternoon (blech, it is just as hot outside today as it was yesterday) and tonight I’m heading out to see Hair on Broadway. Happy weekend!!

  2. Rhea says:

I was so excited for PR to make it’s return! I missed Heidi and Tim! Lindsay’s cameo was a nice surprise eventhough she didn’t contribute much. It was still fun :-)

  3. Aly says:

Trent! I was so excited for the return of Project Runway mostly to read your recaps the next day!!! Next week?? :-/

    • @Aly & meg — I’ll *try* to get back to recapping the show like I used to. There was a lot of PR last night so I couldn’t do it all but I’m deffo planning on getting back into the swing of things, hopefully, by next week’s ep.

  4. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

I LOVED IT!!! I am so happy it is back!!! YEAAAAA

  5. Diana says:

Please do Trent! I no longer have cable (damn saving money to pay for school) and I can’t watch the show, so all I have to rely on is your recaps.

    • @Diana — I promise to do my best but did you know that mylifetime.com will stream online the new eps of Project Runway staring on the Saturday after a new ep airs? So you can watch it on your computer tomorrow :)

I wanted chris march to win, just because he slept through most of the show and his collection was impressive, I thought that would be funny, ya and I really luv ur recaps too!

  7. Shelly says:

I really loved Christopher’s design in the actual show. He deserved to win. I can definitely see some youthful celebrity wearing his design at the VMAs. I just hope with his crying that he doesn’t turn into another Ricky.

    OMG…

  8. Amanda says:

I love Chris March, though I’m worried about his health! I wish he would shape up a little so he can design amazing clothes for years to come.

  9. meg says:

    @Trent- Yay, thanks!

Can’t wait to see what sort of “plus-sexiness” we have in store for next week’s ep! I don’t know about anyone else, but I was struck by how *interesting* all of these contestants seemed. Hopefully it will make for a great, hilarious season!

  10. Sweet_Lady says:

damn! i can’t believe i missed the 1st episode – i didn’t think it started until next week! I hope they show it again!

  11. Fatima says:

@Sweet_Lady, they are running the whole shootin’ match again tonight starting at 7.

  12. Astrid says:

It was fantastic! I also think that Korto should have won the All Star Challenge. I don’t think that anything in Daniel’s collection was even that good, except for his Red Carpet Dress. Korto’s was so good.
I felt terrible for Mitchell’s model, walking down the runway in what amounted to a sheet of sheer curtain paneling. And then, if you watched Models of the Runway, she ended up getting eliminated! Mitchell really did her no favors by blaming his dress failure on her measurements being wrong.
Overall, really looking forward to the season! It is the only thing I have ever watched on Lifetime on purpose!

  13. Spice says:

Uli’s was my favorite… other than the judges comparing her current work to her past work – I’m not why they totally blew her off. What do you guys think – I don’t get it…

  14. Mari says:

Did anyone notice that the girl that got kicked off looked just like Samantha Ronson..and LL was the guest judge?!?

  15. Krissy says:

LOVE project Runway! So sad I missed it last night. Arg. Love that show!

  16. Lucy says:

TRENT, is the mugginess here in NYC getting to you?! No comment on Lindsey Lohan as judge?? :-) I think her makeup palette was pretty bad…she looks kinda rough. She’d look so much better with less makeup and red hair…more natural.
Also SPOILER ALERT did you notice how similar to Sam Ronson the woman who was voted off looks? Maybe that’s why Lindsay didn’t like her. i kid. I thought the guy with the see thru dress shd’ve gotten kicked off. Anyway, come on Trent…we all want your old recaps back. :-) Luv ya.

  17. ohmy says:

I’m go glad it’s still Bravo-esc. I thought it would be Lifetime-ized! Also… how come Nina said practically NOTHING during either ep last night??

  18. ohmy says:

Astrid, I think Korto is great, but could she have been more self-centered and egotistical? Someone needs a HUGE slice of humble pie

  19. Billy says:

    Santino was the whole show.
Yes he was all over it, but maybe had anyone else been willing to be as carefree and expressive than they could have used other designer’s footage and commentary.
I get that people either love or hate this dude, I understand, but Santino should never have to worry about pleasing everyone.
I consider myself a fan and I want to see Santino on everything, he’s just so f-ing funny! Do you not get it? His humor is beyond and I appreciate his work as well. The man was made to command the stage. That’s what I see.
As for the Winner last night, it should have gone to Korto but the judges are full of it and really just believe their own lies and so Danny V gets the prize.
Trent you obviously have style issues, I’ve seen you out too many nights.
