Last night I attended the third NYC show of the final leg of the Nine Inch Nails tour Wave Goodbye. Last Saturday night’s performance took place at the Bowery Ballroom and Sunday night’s performance took place at Webster Hall … last night’s venue was Terminal 5:
In addition to an amazing setlist performed with intense precision by Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy was brought out on stage to duet with the band on 3 songs. It was an especially fun night for me as I was able to meet up with Trent Reznor, his adorable fiancée Mariqueen and the rest of the NIN crew before the show … where I even got to meet Peter Murphy as well. TR has agreed to give me another interview back in LA at the close of the Wave Goodbye Tour but I’ll get to that in a bit. Trent graciously invited me to visit with him for a bit before the show after I asked him for a short interview at the close of the tour. His kindness has only heightened an already euphoric experience for me as I watch these final performances unfold. As if being able to attend these shows and bear witness to these amazing performances weren’t enough, to be honest … I literally have to pinch myself every so often to make sure I’m not hallucinating. Wow. Just … wow. The setlist from the Webster Hall show is pretty tough to beat but last night’s was pretty phenomenal all on its own. Having Peter Murphy come out to sing with NIN was just damn fun. TR was much more talkative last night and even confessed from the the stage, “I’m gonna miss you guys” and then he added “… a little bit.” Actor Gerard Butler (who looks pretty damn hot in person) was in attendance (apparently a big fan of NIN and Peter Murphy as I saw Gerry and Pete engaged in close conversation backstage in Murphy‘s dressing room after the show) as was Kanye West with his girlfriend Amber Rose:

It was just a really great show. I am really looking forward to tonight’s show, again at Terminal 5 … this time, Mew will be the opening act. It’s already kinda sad for me that the NYC shows are almost finished. Altho I have the LA shows to look forward to, it’s gonna be tough to say goodbye to NYC this time.
So, about that upcoming interview with Trent Reznor … I want to keep it kinda short again, 15 mins. or so (much like the one conducted on the last night of the Lights in the Sky Tour last December in Las Vegas, NV). If you have any ideas on what I should ask him about this Wave Goodbye Tour, please pass them along. But, first things first … the final NYC NIN show is tonight … I wonder what TR has got up his sleeve this time around.

NIN sucks – they should have done their final shows years ago – I’m sick of hearing about them on here.
I have had a couple of friends that have toured with them. Trent is one interesting guy! Don’t know if I would want to hang out with him, but his performances are just amazing. I love the energy that he and his band give to their audiences.
Trent I love that you tweet what is going on.. my energy level for the 2 LA shows that I am going to are through the roof already. I keep hearing the rumor that Bowie will appear for one of the shows. I would think either tonight’s NYC show or maybe the last show in LA.. I don’t have tickets to the Echoplex but I plan to a) either find Leo if they do that or just sit with my ear to the wall heheh .. I have been listening to the 1995 show at St.Louis Riverport Amp. where I saw NIN/Bowie just amping myself up for this.
Will there be a documentary on this last tour? Noticed a guy with a giant camera filming the entire evening, looked like he was filming for a TV show
@Jennson — I know the shows are being filmed, I understand there is no plan yet for how that footage may be used.

Trent, thanks for tweeting the shows!! You are my other Fav Trent!! I can only attend one show in LA, so I can live vicariously through you. I WOULD want to hang out with TR, and I would have so many questions, but always like to hear what he is reading. I know you asked last time, but would be very interested to hear what he is reading, or will be reading when he has more time off, so to speak. Thanks!
The show was great, but I still just think Terminal 5 is a tragically bad venue… Possibly my least favorite in the city. With that being said, NIN have sounded amazing there and at Webster (both of which have traditionally bad sound) and I’m still incredibly pumped about tonights show!!!
Could you try to get at least a tiny hint from TR about what he plans to do next? Maybe even just a little bit of information about the possible Year Zero TV show?
You should ask him if whenever (supposedly) Nin starts touring again as a return, will they ever go to Latin America, because I’m planning to start a petition NOW and I’d like to know if it is worthy…
Anything about how Robin Finck came to rejoin the band after their (seeming) previous falling out after the Fragility tours would be interesting!
That and any info on his new projects that could be squeezed out of him!
Trent…I am so envious of you!! I have been a fan of NIN since 94 and am flying from the great state of TEXAS to see the show at the Pallium for the last time. :( See you there!
Trent, I don’t know if you or anyone else is interested in having these shows, but they are popping up on NIN forums and torrent sites in some INCREDIBLE sounding audio & video. NIN has an open taping policy, so the shows are all being taped extensively and are all legal.
It sounds like TR would like to do more collaborative music projects. Who is he looking to work with? Any NIN members past or present? Could this include more volumes of Ghosts? Could Ghosts become similar to a Desert Sessions situation?
Could you please ask Trent what advice he has for his fans (or anyone) trying to overcome alcohol/drug addictions?
I’m curious if he’s kept in touch with any of the former bandmates who have gone on to other successful ventures (ex. Richard Patrick and Danny Lohner) and if he would like to collaborate with them again OR collaborate with any of the people THEY’VE collaborated with since NIN. And if he would ever do any more soundtrack stuff, or scoring for a film or video game.
The song “Dead Souls” is a Joy Division song that NIN covered, just fyi…
