More Promo Photos Of The Volturi Vampires From ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’
New movie stills and full-size promo photos

Last month we got our first look at head shots of the Volturi vampires that will be featured in the upcoming sequel film The Twilight Saga: New Moon … and today we get to check out not only full-size promo photos of those baddie vamps but also a few movie stills from the film. Here are the stills and some info from People magazine:

Prepare to be scared. In New Moon, the second installment in Stephenie Meyer’s wildly popular Twilight saga, readers are first introduced to the ancient ruling class of vampires known as the Volturi. Determined to capture their creepy menace for his screen version opening Nov. 20, New Moon director Chris Weitz has given them custom-crafted blood-red eyes. “They’re all hand-painted, specially manufactured contacts,” Weitz tells PEOPLE. “They’re opaque red, almost like preying mantis eyes. You can’t really see into them. There’s something terribly off-putting about it.” British actor Michael Sheen (The Queen) plays Aro, leader of the Italian blood-sucking clan. Although Aro and his brothers Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) and Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) have been “alive” for thousands of years, Weitz says he “deliberately” gave them a younger look in the film – for which he credits author Meyer. “Stephenie was very keen to steer away from a kind of wizard-y look for the vampires,” says Weitz. “They do look quite young, but they convey a formality and self-possession, which comes from age.” Perhaps most lethal of all the Volturi is Jane (Dakota Fanning), an angelic-looking vampire who inflicts torture on her victims. “She is very strange and very spooky in this movie,” says Weitz. “I think [Dakota] wanted to play an evil character for once.”

I’m sorry …and in all honesty, it’s hard to judge just from photos but … these vamps don’t look scary as much as they look silly. After the jump, check out the full size promo photos of Jane, Alec, Aro, Marcus and Caius of the Volturi and see if you find them scary — or not …

The Lost Boys vampires are scarier than these Volturi. The ‘Salem’s Lot vampires are scarier than these Volturi. The Count from Sesame Street is scarier than these Volturi … I mean … right?

Eh. I don’t remember, exactly, how they were described in the book, but I was hoping they’d be more menacing than this. Dakota looks bitchy, which I do like. Jamie Campbell Bower is tooooo fem, Christopher Heyerdahl looks whiney, Michael Sheen looks like he’s trying to seduce me and Cameron Bright looks like a cocky high schooler.

I’m sure the movie will prove me wrong in this,…or I’m hoping it will. :)

  2. taylor says:

They don’t look scary, but the werewolf special effects for Jacob looked underwhelming too. Maybe when it’s all put together it will all be more impressive. Let’s hope because right now it’s just cheesy/goofy all around.

  3. aimie says:

meh, i like it… if they looked like all those “scary” vamps in other movies how would they blend in? i think jane looks awesome… alex a bit older than i thought he’d be… sheen looks cool (but i pictured him with long white hair idk why) the rest are just ok to me. caius looks girly though? i am excited to see it played out on tv… i NEVER expected them to LOOK scary their abilities MAKE the vamps scared of them not their look.

    shrugs. overall i am pleased

  4. Trish says:

    Hopefully, they can ACT scary!

  5. becky g says:

Kinda Harsh are we NOT! Trent Dakota looks great although I would have liked to see her with her hair down, Marcus looks bad he looks like one of the BEE GEES i hate his hair! Marcus looks the scariest next to JANE and Cacius looks like he is pouting so yea the pics are not great but lets wait till the movie and stephanie did not write it to be scary with the NO FANGS thing and all

  6. Kendra says:

Ridiculous..Absolutely ridiculous..How are people so obesessed over this poopie? Bah..Ahh well..I’m sure there are many things I’m obsessed with that others would question..

  7. becky g says:

I MADE A GOOF ARO LOOKS LIKE THE BEE GEE AND MARCUS LOOKS THE SCARIEST

  8. Trude says:

Whatever photographer decided that ridiculous posing was okay for those promo pics is probably to blame! ;) I agree that the werewolf promos look pretty non-scary too. Hmm…maybe its all a matter of letting yourself get sucked into the movie? Creepy music *might* help…

  9. JRad says:

Um. Yeah. This looks like a MadTV skit…

  10. mak says:

i guess they wanted them to look..umm..sexy? so more girls can drool over the new men vamps lol

  11. vicy says:

I’m really let down by the set, I didn’t expect their throne room to be so bright… I mean they’re underground right? It just doesn’t look menacing enough (their daggy clothes don’t help tho – that massive scarf on caius espesh),

    Less lighting please! >.<

  12. roxster says:

@G: good call on the regal not scary aspect. I agree, they’re supposed to look regal and powerful, but only be scary to Bella (and pose a threat to everyone else) cause they know what they’re capable of. I think alot of this is the posing in these pictures, the first pair of two is ridiculous, although so does michael sheen’s hair…i want cameron whats his faces coat…. Trent: I think they look regal on the thrones, no?

It looks like they used better contacts for the cullen’s too.

  13. Lilliah says:

Ugh- they remind me of cheesy goth kids from City Club in Detroit, circa 1995. Not beautiful or scary- just silly

  14. FK says:

Dakota Fanning looks good, but otherwise they just look like they’re trying (with varying success) to pose pretty. But, I can’t believe Chris Weitz is directing this after he destroyed The Golden Compass. At least he didn’t write this screenplay, but I have the lowest of expectations of him.

  15. BCDanielle says:

I’ve read the books; can’t honestly say I remember them that well….however, they don’t seem to hold that “powerful, regal, and frightening aura” that I thought they might have….hm…

PS- I went to the Eclipse set on Thursday at “Forks” High. It was an absolute circus with all the crazy fans!

  16. Haley says:

@g Agreed..I was never particularily scared, if you will, of them in the book, except maybe Aro’s oozing eyes. Anyways, I think the bigger issue is – Is this the Aro you all seriously pictured?? Come on!! I cant remember exactly but wasnt his skin like really dry as if it was gonna flake off, didnt he look incredibly old? Maybe the old bit is me, but a young studly looking Aro is NOT what I had in mind, and for that reason, I find him unconvincing. I have a feeling the whole movie, or at least when he is screened, I’ll be shaking my head.

  17. Haley says:

Correction Correction Caius…I still pictured him an old man!

  18. Ama says:

Hm, they look okay to me. Like it was previously mentioned I didn’t find them scary with how they looked when reading the book (vampires are attractive-which is how they pull in their victims.)
*no offense to Twilight fans* Stephenie Meyer doesn’t seem to support her characters or how she wrote them, if she will easily let others do what they want with her characters. Not to mention, most of how she ‘described’ the characters in the book is changed dramatically with the characters in the movies XD

I always pictured Aro kind of older looking(like he was changed when he was more in his late forties or early fifties) With long white hair. But overall everyone looks good :D

I don’t know why so many people doubted Dakota as Jane. She has done A LOT of acting, which means she has everything from light to dark characters. So she is who I am most excited about for this movie.

Also about the lighting, that could change from the pictures to the finished project it-they may be scarier in the actual thing ^^

  19. random00b says:

I don’t care: Michael Sheen FTW!

  20. FK says:

@random00b: I totally agree that Michael Sheen will interest me pretty much no matter what. He’s awesome! I’m excited he’s part of this.
