So … I am really enjoying my time here in NYC. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s the first time I’ve been to the Big Apple all by myself and I am really loving it. I spent part of my afternoon yesterday checkin’ out stuff on 5th Ave and then bummin’ around SoHo. It was hot as hell, y’all but I soldiered on. It started to rain a little bit so I snuck into Boqueria on Spring St. for some white sangria and tapas:

‘Twas very delish. I couldn’t stay out too long cuz I had to get home and changed for my night on Broadway. I managed to get a pretty great ticket for Hair, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival at the 2009 Tony Awards this year. After hearing so many good things about it, I had to check it out for myself:

After the jump, check out what I thought about the show, for those of you interested …

OMG, Hair on Broadway is such a great show … I loved it entirely!

I suppose you could call Hair the original Rent … the subject matter is quite controversial, I cannot believe it was able to be produced in the late 60′s. The language and nudity really made the show feel authentic. Listening to many of the lyrics, about the discrimination of Black people here in the US, and considering the changes made form 1967 to 2009 really hit home for me. The show is all emotion … all you do is feel for the entire duration, it’s a pretty amazing thing to witness. I was seated next to a gentleman who told me that he saw the original production of Hair in 1967 two weeks after it opened on Broadway. He thought the revival was very true to the original and he was very pleased with it. I loved it entirely. I wholly recommend that y’all see it as well. Great, great show.

Tonight, tho, begins my NINventure here in NYC. The first show of the final leg of the Wave Goodbye Tour takes place tonight at the Bowery Ballroom:

I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED! I’ll do my best to share as much of the experience as I can with all y’all. I’ll take pics, tweets, whatevs. Here we go.

I’m a huge fan of Hair and have seen it twice since it opened here in NYC. I’m also a new yorker, so for a show to grab me the way this one has is rare indeed. We get jaded about broadway.

I wanted to tip you off to the organization put together by Gavin Creel, who plays claude (you may have seen an understudy, since Gavin recently injured himself). It’s called Broadway Impact and it does great things, particularly on the gay marriage front. They’re having a rally on Friday in Central Park to talk about plans for the DC march in October. Check out their website at http://www.broadwayimpact.com

I am in NY at the moment and saw Hair this past Wednesday and I was just able to score a ticket to see it again this Wednesday. It is the best show on Broadway at the moment. It’s too bad Gavin Creel (who plays Claude) is injured but you were able to see Paris who is equally as amazing. I was at the performance where Gavin injured his ankle and Paris had to take over. Man, I love live theatre!!! I love Hair because it is still so relevent today. Hope you enjoy the NIN concert and enjoy the rest of your stay in NYC.

I’m so glad that you liked it! I’m always nervous to make a recommendation for something that can be so subjective, but I had a feeling you would like it as much as I did.

Hey that guy in the middle of the top picture and the bottom picture used to be in Mormon movies. I thought he looked familiar.

So I’m moderately infatuated with Will Swenson (Burger)… he was in Rock of Ages while it was in previews but was committed to Hair before ROA went to Broadway… saw him in both- loved him more in Hair… maybe because he was nekkid? Maybe, I don’t know LOL

Glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was definitely the coolest show on Broadway this year!
