Depeche Mode Brings ‘The Tour Of The Universe’ To Hollywood, CA
The TV Guide

Last night my good friend Josh and I made our way to the famed Hollywood Bowl to see Depeche Mode live in concert on their second LA date on their Tour of the Universe. When tix went on sale for this tour earlier this year, I mistakenly thought the show here in LA would take place while David and I were to be in London, England (you may recall, he and I were planning to attend Michael Jackson‘s This Is It Tour at the O2 Arena for David’s birthday) but by the time I realized my mistake (and after our London trip got canceled for obvs reasons) all the tix for the DM shows here in LA were sold out … or so I thought. A few tix were released over the weekend and I managed to get two great center seats for the show:

I love seeing shows at the Hollywood Bowl and I’m so glad Josh is a big DM fan like I am. He picked me up with his convertible top down and the DM blaring, we had a blast. After the jump, check out some of the photos I snapped at the show last night and check out the full setlist …

To be honest, I cannot believe last night was my first Depeche Mode concert … in all the many years I’ve been a fan, I’ve never been able to see them in concert. Let me tell you, they sounded great. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore both sound as amazing as ever (tho, as usual, Martin was the more weepy one). The show was full of hits but offered a lot of the really great new stuff, too. I am SO happy that I got to see them. The show was just … awesome. If you get the chance to catch them live, I highly recommend you check them out. Just … awesome.

Tonight, I’m heading out for a quick dinner with Mike before heading off to meeting #2 of The Turtle Party: Book Club. I’m also doing laundry and I’ve started packing for my upcoming trip to NYC. So much going on but happy, happy days.

I’m a HUGE Depeche Mode fan. Their lyrics and songs mean the world to me. I saw them in Bristow, VA — the first US show of this tour. It was amazing! They really nailed it. They never disappoint. But what irke\s me the most is when people go on a “break break” when Martin sings. As far as I’m concerned, his songs are the highlight of the show! His voice is amazing, and heck – he writes almost all the songs! <3

I’m so glad you finally got to see them! They are my favorite band to see live (I’ve seen them 5 times). I wish they were coming to Portland, OR!

DM was the last concert my friend George saw on Nov 2nd,1993 at the Orange Bowl,Miami before dying of AIDS.He got wet ’cause it rained and the neumoniah killed it.But he had a great time.I inherited his DM tapes (tapes) not disks.Ha.

  9. Lisa says:

This was my 6th DM show and I had a fantastic time. DM fans are probably the best concert going crowd (aside from NIN fans) . My friends and I danced and danced. Actually I saw you and Josh not far from where I was sitting. Looked like you had an amazing time. See you at the NIN LA shows! :)

I was right pissed they skipped Vancouver for this tour. Tori Amos did that too this year. WTF?!? But that typewriter image is one of the coolest backdrops ever.

So cool they played goodies from Violator and Music for the Masses – I really love Waiting for the Night. And Behind The Wheel. And Never Let Me Down Again. AND…

I have seen DM several times and they never disappoint !!! I have tickets to the September 4th show in Tampa and can’t wait!! I remember skipping school the day DM 101 came out so we could be there as soon as the record store opened. I remember being so jealous of the lucky ones that got to tour with DM in the 101 documentary….oh my high school memories!! An I have my 20 year HS reunion the following week……………..

Got tix to see them in Houston on Aug 30. Never seen DM live, CAN’T hardly WAIT. I’ve been a fan since People Are People and own almost everything they’ve made…soooo old! Glad to hear all the shows on this tour, so far, have been so great. Some bands are not as good live…but with all their live CD’s I KNEW DM would deliver…but so good to hear they STILL have IT!!!

  17. The Mrs. says:

Ugh! Im soooooo jealous!!!! They canceled the San Diego Concert I was soooooooo bummed, im glad you enjoyed it though!

  18. Anony says:

I am really jealous – we had tix to see them in the Bay Area and Dave got put on vocal rest. Seeing the pictures and the set list makes me want to stomp around like a kid having a temper tantrum for not being able to see the show!

  19. PixiesBassline says:

Ahhhh!!! DM!!!! I bet they won’t come anywhere near me. I’ve NEVER seen them live before. :-\
