Anna Paquin Shows Off Her Engagement Bling
Yesterday we learned the happy news that on and off-screen lovers Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (who co-star in HBO’s True Blood) got themselves engaged to be wed … and today we get to see pics of Anna proudly showing off her new engagement bling. Anna took her doggies out for a stroll and very blatantly flashed her new engagement bling to the curious paparazzi:

I mean … I’m happy for Anna and Stephen and all but … I can’t say I’m too impressed with this ring. It looks like a mood ring that someone would buy at a museum gift shop for about $1.50. Unless this cloudy stone is some sort of expensive moon rock, I can’t say that I believe that Mr. Moyer spent much of his hard earned True Blood money on Anna’s ring. BUT, it’s not the rock that’s important … it’s the sentiment and lurve behind the rock that matters. Again … much love and congrats goes out to the happy couple on their upcoming nuptials. Here’s hoping Anna’s actual wedding ring is a bit more substantive ;)

Is it just ME or is her gap FUGLY?! She has the $ to fix it – so do it already, ughhh! She would be so pretty if she just fixed that damn thing. And your right Trent – I’m not impressed with the ring but she seems like a simple person so this fits her well.

It’s hard to tell, but the ring might be a pearl…. which would bring it up to a couple of hundred dollars instead of the $1.50… .but still… not impressed at all!!!
August 7th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Bah– perhaps it’s a ring that was in the family people. That trumps $$, it has history and personal meaning.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:21 am
I heard it was a hand me down from his family that it was like his Great Grandmothers or something. So he gave her something special to him.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Yeah that’s immediately what I thought too–probably an old family heirloom that’s been passed down for generations. Don’t judge a book by its cover!! :)
August 7th, 2009 at 11:27 am
From what i can see it looks o.k. It’s something different from the huge rocks that we are used to seeing on celebs. At least it’s original.
And i think her gap is cool, nothing wrong with it.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:31 am
it looks like one of the “natural” or “rugged” diamonds…it’s a real diamond, just not cut and polished the way we’re used to. older heirloom diamonds can be rugged as it takes a huge process to polish them. also rugged diamonds are becoming popular now as they are much more “green”; it takes a lot of nasty chemicals to finish a diamond so it blings!

i like the ring. looks like something thats been past through the family.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:43 am
hells bells, folks! as a girl who wears a pearl wedding ring, id like to say its a timeless classic.
and i dont think any kids got their arm chopped off for my ring.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:51 am
this may be way off, but I’m thinking an Opal perhaps? it doesn’t quite look like a pearl to me, but I could be wrong. those can be expensive if they are good ones… it is definitely different.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Perhaps Stephen is not the traditional kind. Perhaps this ring has been with his family for generations.

@Cupcake -I politely disagree with you. I like the gap. I like the things that make people a look a little different. My boyfriend has a gap that size in his front teeth and it is one of the sexiest things about him!
August 7th, 2009 at 11:58 am
@Cupcake…beauty is in imperfections! i don’t think a successful actress should feel the need to ‘fix’ things about herself, because the way she is is what made her famous! just look at jennifer grey (dirty dancing) she was huge in the 80s and then she got her nose ‘fixed’ and she was seldom heard from again!
August 7th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
@Robin – I don’t think Jennifer Grey is the best example..I think it was lack of talent that got in the way of her career.. ;)
And if it is a family heirloom, he really shouldn’t have given it to a fiance! Especially in Hollywood where marriages last for 30 seconds! We have a lot of jewelry that has been passed down many generations and it has never been used for a girlfriend/wife..They might try to take the stuff! But congrats to those two..Hopefully they’ll last..

LMAO Trent, good one. Signs point to Anna being “content” with the ring….
August 7th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Looks like a very large pearl antique ring. If she loves pearls than I’m sure she is very pleased.
August 7th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
It looks like an antique. I bet it has sentimental value in his family. I like it. I think it is disgusting when women make men spend absurd amounts of money on a rock that can’t do anything other than hang out on your hand. If you want a diamond, women should buy it for themselves. I feel like the big rock competition just reflects a woman’s insecurity.
August 7th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
If it’s not a family heirloom, it could be a huge prank on the paprazzi. Think about it, they have probably been camped outside her house… I know I would %&^# with the paparazzi if I had the chance!
August 7th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
It’s cute but I wouldn’t want it for an engagement ring.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Prank or not, I would LOVE to have this as an engagement ring!! Congrats, Anna!
August 7th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Yeah that ring is really ugly. I would be kinda pissed….
August 7th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I like the ring a lot. of course, I’m a big fan if non-traditional engagement rings. I just don’t get the appeal of cut diamonds as the main stone in a ring. They look fine as accents, but I prefer something more interesting as the featured element. My own engagement ring is sapphire.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Anna is beautiful, gap or no gap. Madonna has a gap too. It’s what makes a person unique.
August 7th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Does it really matter what the ring looks like, as long as you know that the person giving it to you is the person you want to be with. Im guessing its probably a ring that has been passed along from his grandmother to his mother and now to him….I like the ring its not all that loud like most celebrities
August 7th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Cupcake: Letterman, Madanna, Elton John, Condoleezza Rice… I could keep going. I bet you think we should be all be blonde and blue eyed. Shes beautiful as is.
Isnt that what an uncut, unpolished diamond looks like btw?
August 7th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
nm, too glossy
August 7th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I think the gap in her teeth is very cute it makes her very different, some of us don’t feel the need to look and be like everyone else!!
The ring,to me looks like a pearl its very different for an engagement ring !!
August 7th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
I think the ring is CUTE. Very unusual, and pretty.
August 7th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
To all of you saying it’s ugly, or cheap, or whatever: as said before, it might be a family heirloom, but even if it’s not, maybe SHE picked it out. I’ve already picked out the ring I want my bf to give me, and it’s a $25 fake sapphire off of Amazon. If we ever decide to take that step, I would hope that he wouldn’t spend ridiculous amounts of money on it.
Either way, she’s clearly happy with it, and it’s not YOUR ring, so grow up.
August 8th, 2009 at 2:44 am
I love the ring — I thought it was a pearl and I love the antique-inspired design. Of course, the grainy image isn’t going to improve the opinions of people who might be on the fence about it… :)
August 8th, 2009 at 7:31 am
In Europe women do not place such emphasis on engagement rings, maybe this couple are more interested in love than possessions. BTW, the engagement rings seen in Europe are often semi precious stones which is much better than the debt American men acquire just to purchase a diamond… Please don’t p*ss on her happiness by being so shallow.
August 8th, 2009 at 10:36 am
Perhaps it belonged to his mother or grandmother or favorite aunt, in any regard this is completely none of our business. How rude. How uncouth to remark in such a manner in public. Each of you is allowing the supposed anonymity of the internet to make you forget your manners. The ring is as lovely as the affianced’s radiant happiness, Mr. Moyer and Miss Paquin. Many continued blessings for you both.
August 8th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Dude Vampire Bill could have put a rubber band on my finger and I would have said yes. He’s a hot piece of meat.
August 8th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
She’s a Canadian/New Zealander …. we are less shallow. If Anna got her teeth “fixed” she would look like every other Hollywood plastic and probably wouldn’t get work … It’s called having ‘character’ and it sets people apart from each other. Why must everyone have matching teeth – that look like dentures?
August 9th, 2009 at 7:55 am
lol @ kellye!!! and i think her gap is cute, she’s cute. they’re hot. best of luck
August 9th, 2009 at 11:32 am
I think the ring is an opal, and it’s beautiful! I was recently researching the engagement ring history because I don’t want a diamond ring just because everyone else has one, and back in the day an opal was often used. I love seeing something unique. (I actually think it’s prettier too, but that’s just my taste.) Looking at it again, though, maybe it is a pearl. Either way, props for being unique and finding something with personal meaning rather than just following convention.
August 9th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
@Joanne: I feel the same way! Why everyone wants to have teeth that look like dentures, I’ll never know.
We’re assuming they’re very happy together and in love (by getting engaged), so why does it matter to everyone what kind of ring/stone is on her finger? We should just be happy that they are happy!!!
August 10th, 2009 at 5:37 am
looks like a mood ring
August 10th, 2009 at 8:06 am
the ring looks like a moonstone engagement ring. moonstones are very pretty close up.
August 15th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Looks like an Opal to me and as long as she’s happy that’s all that maters. I just got a blue sapphire engagement ring, much prettier then a diamond, more original too!
August 17th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
It might be a star sapphire, it really does not look like an opal to me…
Regardless, it’s a beautiful ring…
