‘A Perfect Getaway’ Is Anything But
The TV Guide

Yesterday afternoon, David his friend Patrick and I made our way out to Century City to see the thriller A Perfect Getaway. Judging from the trailers, the movie looked like it would a fun, suspenseful film … unfortch, that was not the case. BE WARNED, my comments below will contain spoilers that may ruin the movie if you have not seen it yet so don’t read my review if you plan on seeing the flick:

What we hoped would be a suspenseful thriller turned out to be possibly THE most cliched movie in Hollywood history. The director throws these caricatures of suspicious movie characters at you at every turn hoping to distract you long enough to throw you off the track of the real killers. Pretty much everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink is thrown into the mix, including purposely false information to confuse the audience. Essentially what you get is a movie where everyone but the main characters are the suspects … which only leaves them as the bad guys for the movie twist to work. I’m sorry but I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME see Steve Zahn as a crazy killer. No way. The movie tries way too hard to throw the audience off the trail of who the bad guys are that it doesn’t really care about entertaining with a good film. By the end, the dialog gets so bad that you can actually see the actors laughing in the movie at how bad the lines are … no lie. I wish there was something about the movie that I liked … but not even Milla Jovovich (who is normally entertaining in those Resident Evil films) was a plus. It just wan’t for me, y’all. Blech.

After the movie, I need to save my night so I made my way out to Koreatown to meet up with Ollie and Caleb for a drink and some convo. I met them at this rad bar called HMS Bounty:

Hanging with those two can make any bad day a good one ;) No plans for today just yet … but methinks David and I will be enjoying some alonetime after our weekend apart. Woot!!

you’re nuts, that movie was awesome, thrilling, and actually funny! :)

  2. Kayla says:

First time I saw the trailer I went “oh…the “good” guys are the killers…okay.”

  3. CHASE says:

I totally knew the good guys were the killers and I’ve never even see the movie! The movie looks extremely obvious and a bit silly. If a movie is going to do a good twist then do it right, BB.

  4. Margie says:

    @kayla-My hubby guessed it too.

Where are the movies like The Usual Suspects or The Sixth Sense that actually ‘got’ you?

  5. Green Is Good says:

So it’s right up there with Mega Shark vs. the Giant Octopus? It’s unintentionally funny. The stuff of cult movie legend!

I love Milla, but I’ll wait for the rental.

Trent, let us Pinkies know if you go see “District Nine”.

If you want to watch a good suspense/horror film, You should see the movie ‘Reincarnation’. It REALLY messes with your mind and keeps you guessing till the end.

Its a Japanese(I think..) horror film though, so you have to read subtitles while watching it. But I think that makes you pay more attention to the movie anyways XD

  7. EJS says:

This is the second movie I’ve guessed what the “twist” was from watching the commercials!! (Derailed was the first).

Thanks for the review…I def will wait for Netflix on that one. I can also say that Funny People was NOT funny or really that believable romantically, for me anyway. I am wondering what other people thought. Adam Sandler basically plays himself, and Seth Rogan is the same character he always is, which I usually love, but it just didn’t work for me in this one. Booh. :0(

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! I might see it for this reason alone.

I’m with Kayla, I called that from the trailer. I also skipped out when my friends went and saved 9 bucks. I have to ask, did anyone else hate Up? Yes, it was pretty but so boring

Oh, I liked it! It’s silly, but I love Steve Zahn and thought all the acting was really fun. The twist wasn’t a big surprise, and that was kind of disappointing, but I felt like it was almost more of a campy movie than a real thriller. It was too ridiculous. I was probably biased, though, because I do think Steve Zahn is one of the best, most under-rated actors right now, so I was just enjoying him and the rest of the cast. I guess I took it as very tongue-in-cheek. Also, though, I sneaked into it after Julie & Julia, so it was like a bonus movie rather than the main event.
