With all the reading on my plate right now I ended up staying in last night and did a lot of reading. I managed to finish Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets but before moving on to the next book in the series, I decided to start reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold:

My good friend Diana sent me a copy of The Lovely Bones the first week I moved to LA three years ago … and I never got around to reading it. After hearing so many good things from so many of y’all AND since the movie adaption will hit theaters this Fall, I figured now is as good a time to get it read. I’m a few chapters in and am really enjoying the tone of the book. It’s inventive and, thus far, well-written. I hear that it will get sad and that tears may be on my horizon but I think I’m up to the task. Since I’ll be flying to and from Detroit this weekend, I’m hoping to have it finished by Sunday.
Tonight, David and I are going to the LA premiere of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra at Mann’s Chinese Theater here in Hollywood … I’ve been anxious to see this movie for far too long, I can’t wait to see it for myself. I’m hoping to inadvertently run into Channing Tatum tonight … wish me luck ;)

That book was such an interesting read for me. Just the way that the story is told sent shivers down my spine so often. I should re-read it, I haven’t read it in years! Thanks for the inspiration! Haha.
agreed – beautifully eerie in the tone and writing style, it is something that I’ve been waiting to see a film version of… ’til the fall! … maybe i’ll reread too before it comes out!
I’m going to re-read it also. Such a great book, but such a heavy subject. It took me a few chapters until I could really get into it-stick with it. Its worth it. Here’s to hoping the movie does the book justice!
OT: Has anyone read Lucky by Alice Sebold? Heavy stuff.
Trent, all your talk of The Lovely Bones lately had reminded me that I’ve wanted to read it ever since it came out (but just never got around to it) so last night I ended up getting my hot little hands on a copy of it too!
Though I don’t have any flights to kill time on this weekend so I suspect you’ll get it finished before I do.
…
Maybe we should start up a book club for people whose first names rhyme! ;-)
Trent, I may have already done it, but I HIGHLY suggest you read The Book Thief. It’s a beautiful story and I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t loved it.
I’ve read this book to, and I remember I loved it…. it’s been awhile though, so maybe I’ll have to re-read it too before the movie comes out!
Inadvertently my ass;)
The Lovely Bones was definitely a good book. I read it a couple years ago, and since the movie is coming out I may need to read it again to refresh my memory. I’m currently The American Wife, and that’s pretty good so far.
I didn’t like The Lovely Bones…at all!
I agree Lovely Bones is definitely a good read. I’ve also read Lucky – also very good. Quite heavy but good nonetheless.
Has anyone read The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum? It’s a very good book but very eerie and quite disturbing. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
I just picked up The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Anyone have an opinion of it?
You will bawl your eyes out. Such a beautiful, well-written book. I definitely need to get it off my shelf and re-read it before the movie is released.
It is a great book…Hope you enjoy it as much as I did..know you will…
Yay, you’ll love it. You seem like an eclectic reader (like moi) and you will definitely enjoy that.

The Lovely Bones is one of the best books i have ever read and is one you will NEVER forget.
Enjoy! Just make sure you have a box of tissues handy!
I loved Lovely Bones. You are right about needing tissues at some point. Have fun in the D this weekend. :)
yeah i teared up a bit while reading the lovely bones i’m…. interested to see how they do the movie but hope they don’t ruin it. my book recommendation is neal stephenson’s snow crash. it’s a fun and interesting read esp after the heaviness of the lovely bones.
An amazing book I have read many times. Just saw the trailer for the movie. I wish Ryan Gossling was still playing the part of the father but I am excited to see it either way. Enjoy the story.
Thanks for inspiring me to re-read The Lovely Bones before the movie comes out! It was such a good read the first time around. I grew up not far from where the book takes place!
the trailer was released yesterday!

Trent! I love your book recommendations. I’ve never even heard of this but once I read the description, I added it to my amazon wish list. Our book tastes line up quite well, so I look forward to more recommendations in the future. Cmon, PinkIsTheNewBookClub!!!
