Tiny Dancers
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Here is a kinda cute pic of Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon and her children Ava Elizabeth and Deacon Reese at the Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday night rockin’ out at the Elton John/Billy Joel concert … you gotta love the way that little Deacon is holding on to Jake’s head:

The make a cute little family … well, pretend family that is. I understand that during Elton’s performance, he dedicated the song Tiny Dancer to Reese Witherspoon. Ain’t that just the most precious thing you’ve ever heard?

The Cast of ‘G.I. Joe’ Take The Promo Machine To The Streets

By any means necessary
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

The cast of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which opens in theaters this coming Friday August 7, are in NYC this week to do some promo for the film’s release. Here are a few pics of Joes Channing Tatum, Rachel Nichols and Marlon Wayans meetin’ and greetin’ some fans on the streets of NYC to promote their film:

Aww, it’s cute that Rachel Nichols likes what her action figure for her character Scarlett looks like. Unlike Sienna Miller, Rachel seems pleased with the way her doll turned out. I’m trying really hard not to think about the fact that Marlon Wayans is in the film … but focusing on Channing Tatum and his … er, assets … are a great distraction. I am very much looking forward to the release of this film. I’m hoping with all my might that it will be fun!!! This is the week, y’all!! Very soon we’ll know if the G.I. Joes will save the world!!

First Look: Concept Art For ‘ThunderCats’

HO!!!!!!!!!
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Here’s a little nugget that I missed last week when 2009 San Diego Comic Con was in full swing … Movieline managed to get their paws on the first concept art promo images for the upcoming Warner Bros. production of the big screen adaptation of ThunderCats. Fans of the 80’s cartoon series recall that the show revolved around group of cat people heroes called ThunderCats (among them Lion-O, Panthro, Cheetara, Tygra, Wily Kit, Wily Kat and Snarf) who escaped their planet of Thundara and landed on Third Earth (presumably in the future) to battle the evil forces of Mum-Ra. Now, like much of the hallowed TV series out our collective youth, the story is being brought to the big screen. Here is our first look at the concept art for the ThunderCat leader Lion-O in all his glory:

Everyone has their own ’80s cartoon franchise that meant something to them, and mine was ThunderCats: The Rankin/Bass series followed of a race of humanoid felines from the planet Thundera, forced to evacuate after their home comes under siege by the fearsome Mutants of Plun-Darr (who looked a bit like reptilian Ernest Borgnines.) Yes, I still hold a fond place in my heart for Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Snarf and the rest, and so Warner Bros.’ announcement a while back of a Thundercats movie filled me with the warm, fuzzy feelings one typically associates with watching Saturday morning TV while eating peanut-butter-and-grape-jelly sandwiches. The script, written by Paul Sopocy, was to follow Lion-O’s origin myth from young cub to his anointment as Lord of the ThunderCats, and was to be directed by veteran art director Jerry O’Flaherty. In conjunction with our coverage of Comic-Con 2009, Movieline has obtained O’Flaherty’s never-before-seen Thundercats concept art, demonstrating just how gorgeous and ambitious his vision for this production is.

HMMM … I’m comforted by the fact that the movie will be a CGI film but considering how crappy the CGI movie based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles turned out … well, I think we have cause for concern. After the jump, check out other artist renderings for the film including Mum-Ra’s pyramid and Third Earth

Jude Law’s Babymama Calls A Press Conference To Plead For Privacy

Film at 11
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Last week we learned the SHOCKING news that one of Jude Law’s sexual trysts resulted in an unplanned pregnancy and altho we were left stymied for a whole day wondering who the lucky girl impregnated with Jude’s seed was, we learned very quickly that her name is Samantha Burke … particularly because her lawyer released a statement to the media making sure everyone knew who she was. Since that time, Burke has released a statement to People magazine announcing the name of her unborn baby and then called a press conference to clear up any misconceptions about her relationship with Jude Law, her babydaddy.. Uh huh. Here are pics of Jude’s new babymama at her press conference and along with news of her baby name and her plea for privacy:

After Jude Law announced that he was going to become a father for the fourth time on Wednesday, now lawyers for mom-to-be Samantha Burke reveal in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE that they’ll be having a little girl named Sophia.

“Samantha, her mom, and her family can affirm that Jude has been responsive and supportive throughout the relationship and pregnancy, and know that he will remain so as a father once Baby Sophia is born,” says the statement. “Jude and Samantha remain committed to the health and well-being of this child, and appreciate your honoring her privacy during this special time.”

The lawyers for Burke, a 24-year-old aspiring actress from Pensacola, Fla., who had a brief relationship with the actor when he was filming Sherlock Holmes in New York City last year, also confirm that she wouldn’t be granting any interviews despite numerous requests. “This remains a private matter between Jude Law and Samantha Burke,” the statement reads.

HMMM … yes … but while she was not granting interviews, the press conferences have been comin’ hot and heavy:

The mother of Jude Law’s fourth child has slammed reports the actor has shunned all contact with her – insisting quotes attributed to her mum were “taken out of context”. Samantha Burke is seven months pregnant with a baby girl after dating the Brit star when he was shooting Sherlock Holmes in New York earlier this year (09). New reports allege Law has refused contact with Burke since finding out she was expecting his baby, with Burke’s mother reportedly going on the record to voice her concerns. Lea Burke was quoted as saying, “Samantha has no idea what is going on. She is very stressed out and upset. This was never planned and Jude didn’t want the baby. It was a total accident. This was no way planned. Hell, no. She was in shock when she found out she was pregnant and terrified to tell him. It would be nice if the father was around but that’s not going to happen because of his job and Samantha knows that. Samantha is staying positive and hoping Jude will get in touch. She really wanted to get hold of him, but he hasn’t called once.” Burke was so infuriated by the reports, she appeared in public on Friday (31Jul09) for the first time since news of her pregnancy broke, admitting: “It’s a hard time.” She stood alongside her spokesperson outside her home to confirm Law is “committed to the health and wellbeing of this child”. The 24 year old’s spokesperson says, “Samantha and her mother would like to be clear that comments attributed to her mother and media stories reported in the last 24 hours regarding Jude’s contact with Samantha and his involvement were taken out of context. Samantha, her mom and her family can confirm Jude has been responsive and supportive through the relationship and pregnancy and know that he will remain so as a father once baby Sophia is born. Jude and Samantha remain commited to the health and wellbeing of this child and appreciate your honouring her privacy during this special time.”

Ahhhh … I see … so what she really wants is privacy. Got it. Oh man, Jude is going to have a lot of fun with this chick bringing forth his baby into the world. And the fun is just beginning. At least Jude will have two boys and two girls … a practically perfect family!

Kim Zolciak Alleges That NeNe Leakes Tried To ‘Choke Her Out’

The drama on 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' spills out into real life
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Whoa!! Just when you thought the drama on The Real Housewives of Atlanta couldn’t get any more insane than last week’s ep (Who Gonna Check Me, Boo?) we learn that the drama got really real for two of the Atlanta housewives this past April. According to Kim Zolciak, the housewife with the worst wigs and the inability to carry a tune, she was physically assaulted by co-star NeNe Leakes as the two women were on their way to film a scene for the show. Zolciak filed a police report that Leakes put her hands on her and “tried to choke her out”. Here are some of the deets on what allegedly went down, including a look at the actual police report filed by Zolciak:

Just when we thought the table-flipping outburst on The Real Housewives of New Jersey was cuckoo crazy, now come allegations of physical attacks down in Atlanta. Back in April, country music star wannabe Kim Zolciak filed a police report against fellow Housewife NeNe Leakes … Kim claims NeNe grabbed her neck and “tried to choke her out” at the end of an argument on April 15, according to an incident report … Two witnesses, who apparently tried to break up the fight, corroborated Kim’s story. No reason was given for the altercation, and NeNe had left the area by the time the cops arrived. NeNe has not been arrested or charged with any crime, but a rep for Kim insists the incident is still under investigation. “Violence is a very serious issue, and we are not going to take this incident lightly,” the rep said. “Mrs. Leakes needs obvious therapy for her apparent anger management issues.” A rep for Bravo and NeNe had no comment. Housewife Sheree Whitfield just told me, “There is going be tons of drama and catfights [this season]. I don’t know if you call that one a catfight. That’s more like a dogfight!” While the Kim-NeNe argument was not caught on tape, a source said the issue will be addressed in an upcoming episode. How are things between the two now? Definitely chilly. The ladies held court on opposite sides of the W Atlanta-Buckhead hotel on Tuesday night during a party for the premiere of the show’s second season, according to another source.

Damn! While I don’t want to see NeNe get into any trubs for what it is being alleged that she did, I can absolutely believe that Kim is capable of pushing NeNe over the breaking point. I’m curious to see how Bravo TV handles this situation. On the one hand, I bet they’re licking their lips to try and air as much of this altercation as possible but have to be reigned in by the law. Trust, they will exploit this incident as much as they can within the confines of the law. After the jump, check out the police report filed by Kim that outlines what she alleges happened to her …

‘Funny People’ Is Not Funny, People

The TV Guide
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

After spending part of my afternoon at AT&T Wireless replacing my piece o’ crap BlackBerry Bold with a BlackBerry Curve 8900 (without much grief, I must admit … the guy helping me was prolly the nicest AT&T person I’ve ever worked with), I met up with Josh, Darion and his friend Eric for a movie last night. We decided to see Funny People … which, IMHO, was a terrrrrrrible mistake:

At 2 1/2 hours, Funny People is about an hour too long … and entirely not that great. The film is really 2 movies in one … the first half is kind of entertaining, marginally funny and really touching. The strength of the film lies in the poignancy of the story of a comedian who learns he has a deadly disease that will most assuredly kill him. The second film, and THIS IS A SPOILER SO DON’T READ THIS IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED, is about how the comic beats the odds and beats the disease … and then he immediately reverts to being the cheating asshole he used to be before he thought he was dying. To be fair, I kinda liked the first half of the film … the strongest performance came from Adam Sandler when he played that poignant part when he thought he was dying. After an hour and a half more of the seemingly unending movie, I really was trying to think of ways to kill myself in my seat to end my suffering. Judd Apatow is really trying to make this film his masterpiece, his comedic Lord of the Rings if you will. While, in my opinion, I have to say he failed miserably I do give him props for taking the risk. The movie starts out OK and then falls apart and drags on endlessly … ruining any of the good stuff that exists in the film. Not even Eric Bana’s hotness could save it in the end. It’s a shame, I had high hopes that this movie would be good. Blah!

I was much more entertained yesterday when I was finally able to watch in full the 13th episode of Dollhouse titled Epitaph One. This ep will be included on the Dollhouse Season 1 DVD set and is NOT TO BE MISSED:

I don’t even want to give hints about the ep because it really works best, I think, if you see it cold. I will share that the ep takes place 10 years in the future after the last ep, Omega, of Dollhouse Season 1. Joss Whedon is a damn genius, I loved EVERY SECOND of the ep. You simply MUST pick up the Dollhouse Season 1 DVD set which is available for sale NOW!!

Tonight David and I are going to a special preview screening of Julie & Julia. The movie looks cute so, I’m excited. Happy Mondy, y’all!!
