Wherefore Art Thou?
The TV Guide

Last night David took me out for a night of ballet at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown LA for a performance of the American Ballet Theater‘s production of William Shakespeare‘s Romeo and Juliet:

Altho he’s not a big Shakespeare fan, David knows that I LOVE Shakespeare so he got me tickets for the performance as my birthday present. I have to say, the performance was very impressive. I’ve never seen Shakespeare interpreted via dance (ie. no words) but the company was quite superb. I don’t know ballet but I know what I like and I really enjoyed last night’s performance. Oh yeah … and all those ballet dancers rock hard butts in those skintight tights weren’t half bad either ;) It was a really great night :)

Afterward, we met up with Sarah, Adriana and her manfriend Etay for drinks at The York in Highland Park …

… where I felt compelled to take fun tho sometimes unflattering mobile phone photos of my dear friends. ‘Twas fun!!! We didn’t stay out to late last night … but late enough for me to get a $60 parking ticket from the city of Los Angeles :( Booooo.

Tonight, Darion and I are going to see the LA Galaxy vs. AC Milan at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. My very dear friends Alyson and Alexis had a couple tix to the game that they couldn’t use and graciously gave them to me. David and I got to hang out with them for a little while yesterday to pick up the tickets and to meet in person their darling little daughter Satyana. At only 4 months old, that little princess is already so big! She’s so beautiful … we all had a nice time hanging out together. I’m very excited for the game, I’ll do my best to post photos tomorrow.

I don’t like Shakespeare either. Highly overrated. I do enjoy Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream but that’s pretty much it.

  2. Val 2.0 says:

Wait, wait, wait. You hung out with the cutest couple ever(!)? I die. Lucky duck.

  3. J says:

yeah, chases obviously doesn’t know where he is coming from. Maybe he just doesn’t know literature very well, i dunno. It’s a part of history though, anyway.

Trent.. i think these ballet dancers are the real Sasha Fierce… lol

  4. J says:

OH & just noticed the parking ticket fine. Councils these days are just ridiculous. Here in Australia is just as bad. Parking ticket for illegal parking – for not even a quarter of the wheel was up on the gutter & you get fined. Ridiculous.

  5. CHASE says:

@Trent – Shakespeare is a great author and a great storyteller overall. I just think he’s just overrated in general. People just think he’s the greatest author that ever lived. I know he profoundly influenced English Literature in a big way and even people today are influenced by him but, still. I just think there’s a lot other authors who were just as good as him like Chaucer who don’t even get half the recognition they deserve. Shakespeare took a lot of ideas from other authors and paraphrased them in his own way (which there’s nothing wrong with that) and pushed the envelop which was good but I just think it’s a little silly. I never had a problem understanding Shakespeare (mostly just the outdated English) but there’s a lot of people who don’t get it so I don’t understand why they’re classics if his period of English died? No one talks like that anymore. I know in the future some books that are published in our time will be outdated as far as English goes since it develops overtime but I’m just not an uber hardcore fan.

  6. CHASE says:

@J – Trust me, in AP English we studied Shakespeare for almost an entire month. You name it, I’ve seen it or read it. Just because I think Shakespeare is overrated doesn’t necessarily mean I dislike him. As I’ve stated above I just think he’s overrated. Oh, and last time I checked there was only one Chase so I don’t know why your comment is implying there’s more than one. Weird.

  7. Michelle says:

Wait, wait… by Alyson and Alexis you mean Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof?! You have the greatest group of friends EVER!! Seriously!! Oh and the ballet looked like a good time. As an English teacher I LOVE Shakespeare, although I’m not the biggest Romeo 7 Juliet fan (I <3 Macbeth) I do think it would be interesting to see the interpretation in dance!
