Tickets For The Public Service Of Michael Jackson Are Now Available By Lottery
17,000+ registrants will be chosen at random

A spokesman for the Jackson family along with city officials and representatives from AEG Live held a press conference today in downtown LA at just about 10:30AM PT to formally announce the plans for Michael Jackson‘s public memorial service at the Staples Center on Tuesday July 7. It was announced that approximately 17,000 tickets will be made available to fans FREE of charge and ONLY ticket holders would be allowed anywhere near the Staples Center area on that day. Interested folks will have to enter their information at THIS site before 6PM PT tomorrow evening to be entered into the random drawing for tickets. Folks who are selected for tickets will be notified via email on Sunday with further information on how to procure those tickets. Here are the full deets about this ticket distribution plan as announced today:

The Michael Jackson Public Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles, California and simulcast inside to Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE across the street. A limited number of free tickets to both venues will be made available for Michael Jackson’s fans to attend. Due to the expected overwhelming demand, the following procedures have been set to accommodate registration for the tickets. Please note that by registering for tickets to attend the Public Memorial Service, it does NOT guarantee the registrant tickets. The opportunity to register for tickets begins at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, July 3, 2009 and ends at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Please enter your information below for your chance to receive two tickets, that will be randomly distributed for either STAPLES Center or Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE to attend the Michael Jackson Public Memorial Service. Only one entry per individual will be accepted. Registering to attend the Public Memorial Service is NOT a guarantee of tickets. Two tickets will be issued to each randomly selected attendee. Offer valid to residents of the United States only.

It was made very clear that ALL TICKETS WOULD BE FREE and that the police will be BLOCKING OFF the area during the memorial service in order to control the crowds. If you do not have a ticket, you will NOT be allowed in the area. It was also announced that the entire memorial service would be made available for TV and internet broadcast so that folks around the world could bear witness. No details at all were given on the service itself (ie. what will take place, who will attend, etc.). So … if you’re interested in going, get registered and cross your fingers. I was able to get my registration in but I understand the registration site has been overloaded and has been crashing ever since the announcement was made. Good luck!

disappointed to hear that only US res. are eligible as I’m sure many would fly in if htey were big enough fans!

  2. Malcolm McCrae says:

Was there any info on them having a way to prevent the selling of these tickets by scalpers!? I wonder if itll be will call like at Britney concerts? I would HATE for anyone to make a profit off of these.

  3. Jennie says:

I really hope my friend gets one..he flew all the way from orlando by himself. I dont think I know anyone who loves Michael more than him.

  4. Lula says:

I registered even though I am in NYC, because it would be awesome to got, but I never win these things, so wth. But, somewhat similar to what Malcom is complaining about, I was wondering whether, if somehow I DO get them and cannot get a flight or hotel or whatever, if they are transferrable, even for free. (?)

  5. Lilly says:

any news on what tv stations will be airing it?

  6. m says:

I hope only the true, hardcore fans get them, it’s not fair if the people who were trashing him while he was alive are going while those who really love him miss out

  7. semtexboi says:

I expect their system will kick out anyone registering zip codes not in the LA state ..thinking they are for scaplers or couldn’t book flight and hotel last minute

  8. Andrea R. says:

m, I completely agree. I don’t like the fact that random people who weren’t even fans of his and said terrible things about him while he was alive get to register for this. I’d really like to see REAL fans get the tickets.

  9. Claire says:

I agree with M and Andrea. It isn’t a social event or anything one should go to just to say they “were there.”

  10. Anna says:

They should give priority to the people that have been in his fanclub for forever. I just know that everyone is going to register because it’s an event of the century and there will be people there that didn’t even like Michael Jackson.
I’m not a fan so I wouldn’t register, it would be wrong.

To make it only for US residents seem wrong though. There are lots of fans in other countries that would go there if they were allowed to.
