‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson
1 of 4 tribute coverphotos

Rolling Stone, arguably the definitive Rock & Roll magazine, is paying tribute to the memory of the late Michael Jackson by publishing a tribute issue of their magazine. The mag, which will offer 4 different coverphotos, is now available for pre-order HERE (it ships on July 10) and will offer essays on the life of Michael Jackson from the musicians who presumably knew him best. Here is one of the coverphotos of the Rolling Stone tribute issue along with a short description of the mag:

Rolling Stone brings you the definitive tribute to the King of Pop, with a dazzling 96 page special issue (plus 4 covers) chronicling the thrilling highs and chilling lows of Michael Jackson from Motown to Thriller to Neverland Ranch. The vast majority of the material here is new, thanks to essays from Will.i.am, Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, Sheryl Crow, Slash, Adam Lambert, Usher, L.A. Reid, Akon, Brooke Shields, Gamble and Huff, Wyclef Jean, Ne-Yo, Weird Al, Martin Scorsese, Glen Ballard, John Landis, plus the Rolling Stone staff. Also included are reprints of two classic Rolling Stone cover stories, one from 1973 by Ben Fong Torres, and a 1983 piece by Gerri Hershey.

I’m quite perplexed as to why, exactly, Adam Lambert was asked to contribute to this tribute issue but I’m sure AI fans are thrilled. It makes sense that RS would honor the memory of MJ in this way, he graced the cover of their mag many, many times thruout his life and career. It seems fitting that he would grace their cover at least one … or four more times.

its because adam did a michael jackson song on American Idol, a flimsy reason but they have been asking everyone to write a tribute. btw have you seen Ghosts? Michael Jackson’s 40 min music video from the 90′s. Its creepy in ways not even intended.

  2. Wendel says:

Wow, a “tribute” to Michael with four different covers that any truly respectful fan will have to buy. How nice of the selfless Rolling Stone.
I wonder how many of Rolling Stones “essays” will be written by the special children who “knew him best.”
It would only see fair (if not right).

@ Josh: it’s 40 minutes long?! damn I don’t remember it being that long but then again all his videos were epic. I wonder if they’ll release the videos on DVD. if they do it’ll be like 8 DVDs with videos on them because they’re like mini movies all to themselves.

  4. Bebe says:

Yes, they all did an MJ song… I don’t understand the RS love for Adam Lambert. It makes me lose a little respect for them, to be honest. It would be one thing if they waited until after/just before his album (which I actually expect to be quite good) but I don’t think what he did on AI deserved a RS cover and now this essay. He just sang other people’s songs! And his look is nothing special – it has Hot Topic written all over it.

  5. Sassy K says:

Ugh. Adam Lambert? Seriously? It’s a little insulting. And can anyone explain Sheryl Crow to me? That seems a little random.

  6. liz says:

sheryl was a back up singer on one of michael’s tours

  7. Jacintos says:

Yes every Idol contestant did an MJ song that week, but Adam Lambert’s is arguably the best and most popular. I can only remember a couple other songs that were performed that night, but Adam’s rendition of “Black or White” stands out majorly. It was, in my opinion, one of his best performances of the entire season. So it doesn’t surprise me to see that he was chosen.

  8. Blair says:

I for one would be interested to see Adam Lamberts contribution, but i am very biased as i love Adam Lambert i think his cover of MJs black or white was amazing!

  9. karen says:

If i didn’t remember wrongly, that week was on the Motown theme and there were afew contestants who sang songs that were not MJ’s.

Adam Lambert performed Black or White during AI and t’was the best of the nite: http://www.imeem.com/blue-rose.....sic-video/

    go watch! :)

  10. karen says:

oops.. my friend just told me that it was MJ week and all contestants sang MJ and songs from Jackson 5.

  11. bopeep says:

what the hell! adam lambert deserves all the praises he gets but asking him to contibute anything about michael jackson is plainly stupid & rubbish!!! he doesnt even know him personally let alone performed with the same stage with him geez!

  12. javajunko says:

why would they use Adam Lambert??? There are people with way more credit in the music world to use than him? Has anyone heard from Diana Ross yet??

  13. fefe4u says:

Adam Lambert was asked to contributed for many reasons A) As someone already said he sang “Black or White” on AI and it was praised as one of the best reditions of the original the panel has ever heard. While Adam was being critiqued he mouthed that he loved Michael Jackson – a tribute to the late, great MJ. B) Adam is an up and coming superstar, and RS has an exlusive contract with him. They get that Adam is going to be hugh, based on fanbase and RS mags sold when Adam was on the cover C) Adam is current and today, not that the other fabs are not relevant they certainly are, but Adam is today, and everyone knows Adam Lambert!!!!
