‘Moonwalker’ Is A Trip
Last night was a quiet night in for David and me … so I decided to pop open a nice bottle of Chianti and watch the very trippy Michael Jackson movie Moonwalker (which I hadn’t seen in over 15 years). The movie features some of MJ’s coolest music videos (namely Smooth Criminal and Leave Me Alone) but also features some of the most insanely ridiculous nonsense I think I have ever seen:

I had forgotten about all the fun stuff in this movie as well as how good Michael Jackson looked at this time in his life. Sure, he had already undergone some plastic surgery but I think his “look” in 1988 was his best and was deffo where he should’ve stopped on the cosmetic surgery train. I really loved seeing the Badder music video in the film, which is an all kids version of his hit music video Bad. If you, too, had forgotten about that cute video or just want to see it again (or for the first time) then check it out in full after the jump …
Man … as effed up as MJ eventually became, he really was THE man back in the day. It was really great seeing this movie again after so many years. If you’ve not seen it, you should deffo seek it out and watch. It’s a trip and a half but it is 100% Michael Jackson.

My son who is now 26 used to watch Moonwalker (on video) incessantly. It finally wore out I think. lol Recently it was on TV and I stopped to watch it. I’d forgotten how good it was…especially Leave Me Alone.

OMG Trent!! Since MJ’s passing my mom has been talking about putting “Moonwalker” up for sale on ebay and I have been begging her not to do it!!! Selling that movie would be like selling a piece of my childhood!! My sister and I watched it constantly. Like you said, it’s got the coolest videos and some of the weirdest stuff I’ve ever seen; Katie being kidnapped by Joe Pesci, that giant tarantula, MJ turning into a spaceship. Totally weird, but TOTALLY awesome!

I used to watch this video (i.e. VHS) CONSTANTLY when I was growing up. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I have been thinking about it a lot recently and how I would love to watch it again. Even as a kid, I remember thinking that it was super bizarre – there are so many strange things going on (the claymation, the part where he turns into a car…)

@ Emily – OMG I totally forgot about the claymation!
“It’s Ma-Ma-Ma…”
“Mazavonni?”
“No! MICHAEL JACKSON!”
HAHA!

Michael didn’t ‘become’ anything else than what he was in the Bad era. He didn’t become ‘effed’ up – he just aged, fully developed vitiligo & lupus and was increasingly slandered by lying press and false accusers.

@Lewis Burne — Uh huh.

seriously, no need to be cruel. Obviously Lewis is a huge fan, and in the wake of grief, why is there a need to patronize him? What ever happened to not saying anything if you don’t have anything nice to say?

@lilly hey I love MJ too, always have and always will, like I said before here, as a child then as a teenager I was a massive MJ fan, so him dying is like my childhood and adolescence both died with him, but let’s be rational here, what fucked Michael up was too much fame and no childhood, plus he was surrounded by YES people who couldn’t give too fucks about him. I feel sad for him for the fans but also for those poor kids.

WTF?! See, this is what you miss out on living in a small town with a poor family! THANK YOU! I’d heard about this throughout my childhood–even recently–never seen it until right now…thank you sooo much for sharing this and Captain EO!

Funny I am watching the movie on my computer right now. Forgot how amusing it is. The Badder version is so cute. I’m loving what I am seeing. I remember not liking it too much when I was a kid, but now I love it.

OMG THANKS FOR SHARING! I had completely forgotten about Badder. This video had some of the guys from the R&B group “The Boys”. lol hysterical….

I forgot ALL ABOUT THIS VID! Wasn’t little Michael in The Might Ducks franchise when he got older? Did I make that up?

@lyndyloo- “him dying is like my childhood and adolescence both died with him, but let’s be rational here”
uhhhhh….yeah, that’s a really rational statement. And I’m sure Trent and the others who speak about Michael that way aren’t “effed up” in any way at all. Mmm hmm.

What I would really love is for Disneyland to bring back the MJ 3D movie for awhile! I would buy a ticket to disneyland just for that!
