Madonna Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson In Her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour London Show
"Let's give it up to one of the greatest artists the world has ever known"

As I mentioned yesterday, Madonna kicked off the latest leg of her Sticky & Sweet Tour at the O2 Arena in London, England last night and she devoted a special segment to the memory of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I understand that Maddy changed up the show setlist a tiny bit (not to spoil the surprise for any of y’all who have yet to see this latest leg of the tour but I understand her song Frozen has been added to the setlist) but it is unknown if the added homage to Michael Jackson will be included in future performances of the Sticky & Sweet Tour or if this tribute was a one-time-only sort of thing:

For the most part, the tribute was a tiny portion of the show … a Michael Jackson impersonator came up onto the stage as photos of MJ himself were featured on the big screen and MJ‘s music played along. The impersonator danced a few of MJ‘s signature moves while Madonna and her dancers stood back, watched and applauded. At the end of the 1 1/2 minute segment, Maddy asks the audience to “give it up” for the late King of Pop and the tribute was over. After the jump, check out video of this Michael Jackson tribute at Madonna‘s Sticky & Sweet Tour performance in London, England last night …

While this tribute was short and sweet, I would’ve much preferred it if Madonna had performed one of MJ‘s songs in tribute rather than having a run-of-the-mill Michael Jackson impersonator do the work for her … just like she did during The Virgin Tour back in 1985:

But, any homage to MJ should be appreciated and we should deffo give props that she chose to honor his memory at all. Were any of y’all at the show last night? Did you think it was all that?

That was one of the most lame things she could have done, she could have sang one of his songs or danced to it even a little.

Either do it well or don’t do anything at all IMO.

  2. Momo says:

I think partly the reason for her not doing something herself could be because she’s making it about him and not her. maybe? if she did a “tribute” by singing and dancing to a song, maybe she thought that would detract from the tribute.

  3. Green Is Good says:

This was a landmine any way she played it. But the impersonator? No. Just no.

  4. debho says:

An impersonator? Doesn ‘t anyone else think this is done in poort taste? She could have just shown a quick clip of him and said a few sincere words instead of making a debacle out of it.
But then, no one can accuse Madonna of having good taste.

  5. Stacey says:

Ok, not to sound hookey but the New Kids On the Block tribute was a lot more fitting…they played video of Michael on the screens…came out and talked about the loss and said if there was no Jackson Five there wouldn’t be bands like them. And they sung “I’ll Be there” and had the crowd sing along. It was really nice.

  6. Jenny says:

I don’t think she should have said “Long Live the King” as… well…. that’s sort of empty praise at this point.

  7. CHASE says:

Madonna is so annoying. I just couldn’t take the MJ impersonator seriously at all. She should’ve just showed a clip of him or at least sung what of his songs. It just seemed out of place and kind of silly. MJ > Madonna

  8. CHASE says:

Oops, I meant “one of his songs” instead of “what of his songs.” FAIL
