First Look: Britney Spears, ‘Kill The Lights’
"Our very own Pop Princess, now Queen of Pop, has a special announcement ..."

Altho Britney Spears just released the official music video for her single Radar earlier this month, she is releasing another new music video for her single Kill the Lights today. Based on a fan fiction story written by a Britney Spears fan, the Kill the Lights music video is an animated adventure that sees Brit Brit soaring into space to battle the evil forces of alien paparazzi … or something like that. Here are a few screencaps from the video and the story it is based on — all spelling and grammatical errors belong to the author alone:

At the begining when Danja speaks we have a animated Danja in a radio environment and at the same time in the frame we have Britney surrounded of a lot of paparazzis. When the song starts Britney run and takes a rocket and scape some other planet. Some of the paparazzis take others rockets and go behind her. When she lands to the other planet, some aliens are there waiting for her, everybody knows her. They have posters with her image, some aliens are dreesed like her. She makes a performance, everybody takes her pictures, she pose and sings. Meanwhile paparazzis from our planet go arriving. When the lights from the cameras are so hard she takes avantage of it and scapes, she takes a control or joystick or something and takes the rocket. When she is far from that planet she sees that it is full of light. She turn of the lights with the joystick. She smiles in a close up when the rocket pass in front of the camera.

My guess is that English isn’t the author’s first language but still, the story is very clear. Having seen the video myself, I think it reflects the spirit of this fan story very well. After the jump, check out the music video for Kill the Lights and see for yourselves …

As you may recall, Britney released an animated music video for her single Break the Ice in March 2008, so this isn’t her first foray into 2D. It’s a cute video … tho, I have to say that I really think she missed the opportunity to create an amazingly kickass video since the song is such a strong track (unless there are plans to release a traditional live action long-form video as well). I like it but I don’t love it. That being said, it’s MUCH better than the video for Radar. What do y’all think … do you like?

What a dedicated fan. It’s so nice that Britney is so in touch with her fan and I did like the video. A+++

  2. Emily says:

I thought it was kinda cute. A video just for the fans, by a fan. :) I loved Radar as well.

  3. nicole says:

ANYTHING is better then radar lol..but im not big on animated videos…theres only a handfull in the past 5 years that i actually like. but its alright i guess.

  4. la princesa says:

    Britney rules!

PS: “Break The Ice” is the only video I can play for my 2 year old that keeps her quiet for a couple of minutes, so I have high hopes for this one, too…

  5. Jadedkitten says:

This isn’t an official video KTL isn’t and won’t be the 5th single its was just a special little fan contest Jive set up. Still cool tho.

  6. Jake says:

I think all britney fans would enjoy it :) great job

  7. tOnnY says:

WOW i don’t think i’ve ever seen so many grammar & spelling mistakes in one paragraph but i like the story, and the video’s cute.
i can’t imagine how that fan felt when they saw the video they created in full motion… nice video i liked it, but radar is AMAZING and most of my friends like it, they were like “wow she looks classy” :D

  8. RazberrySwurl01 says:

Trent I agree with you. Kill the Lights is one of the best tracks on Circus so it’s such a shame that she didn’t do something more explosive. I think Break the Ice has moe punch to it. It’s a cute video though.

  9. Sara says:

It seems to me that maybe they will do a live action one… after all, it isn’t even the whole song!

  10. Anne says:

Kill the Lights is a FAR better song than Radar. I hope she makes a live action video for this song. I want to see Brit do some sick dance moves to this song!

  11. Janice says:

I’m not trying to spam (!) but my friend & I made a 1 minute vid for Kill The Lights if you peeps wanna check it out. =)

Better than Break the Ice… the animated Britney actually looks like the real Brit.

  13. MNagne says:

    Love it! Britney’s amazing!

  14. Tracy says:

    LAME. And extremely lazy. Fail.

  15. gant77 says:

I knew this couldn’t be the “actual” video for this song, especially since they cut out a couple of verses.

  16. CHASE says:

Yeah, they cut out a lot of the song. Unusual You needs to be released! PLZ PLZ PLZ

  17. Rob says:

Wish they’d release this properly with a full music video. A ‘Single Ladies’ type video would work well with a few bells and whistles on it and a killer dance routine.

They seriously need to release either Kill The Lights, Unusual You or Mannequin. Hell, or even Amnesia – ALL better songs than Radar.

  18. Harper says:

Believe me, I love me some Brit, but I hate these animated videos. To me, it feels like a cop out so she doesn’t have to put the work into the real thing. I love this song, and I feel like they could’ve done something alot cooler with it for the video.

  19. RobbieD says:

WTF? I love, love, love Britney and all she does, but someone please tell me this isn’t the official video for Kill the Lights. It’s such a good song and for those of you who were disappointed with Radar, this is an even bigger step down. Britney’s an entertainer, wheres the entertainment value in this? We need to see some live action Britney kicking ass in a video to this kick ass song.
