First Look: ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Redux
Sweet Dreams

Earlier this year, hot on the heels of the marginal success of the remake of the famed 80′s horror slasher flick Friday the 13th (which hit theaters last February … Friday the 13th), we learned that plans were in the works for a redux of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Back in February, a ridic rumor that Lindsay Lohan had signed on to appear in the film started making the rounds and was quickly debunked. BUT, the movie did go into production and today we get our first look at Jackie Earle Haley in the role of Freddy Krueger in the new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street:

There was plenty of speculation as to who would take over the Freddy Krueger role once Platinum Dunes and New Line made it clear Robert Englund would not return for the new A Nightmare on Elm Street (set visit preview). Buzz built when actor Jackie Earle Haley signed onto the role and continued when fans considered what he would look like in the reboot hitting theaters on April 16, 2010. Here is your first look at a photo of Krueger, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit more for the full reveal.

ARGH!! This “first look” is a very crafty way to tease the new film without giving ANYTHING away. That could be your aunt Mable in this Freddy Krueger costume for all we know. I’m sure there will be plenty more to come from this new redux in the coming days … I understand Nightmare will have a heavy presence at Comic-Con this weekend. Stay tuned … we should be seeing more soon. Having seen the new version of Friday the 13th, are you excited for A Nightmare on Elm Street?

I thought of Nightmare On Elm Street as one of the best original horror films of our generation. I see no reason to remake it. How could it be better than the original? I hope they do it justice.

  2. Olivia says:

HELL to the YES…woowoop cant wait. I have the complete box series. Im a true fan since the 80′s

  3. Erin says:

Sweet. They filed scenes for this movie at my high school back in April. I’m only going to see it because of that.

  4. CHASE says:

Jason is, and always will be, more scarier than Freddie but who knows? Maybe this new one won’t be so cheesy as the previous installments.

  5. duh says:

    Ditto to the Dennis
They can try to redo it, but no cigar… J. Depp was in orig for cryin’ out loud and shit. Original – a GREAT movie.

  6. Lindsey says:

Robert Englund is Freddy and no one can replace him or do the role justice. In all of the Nightmare series Robert was the one thing that could hold even the campiest one together.

  7. Jazz says:

What! They can’t remake this. It’s sacrilege!

  8. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

I agree with Jazz that this is the worst idea. Can’t they find something else to remake?? I seriously love this movie. I actually love number 3 “Dream Warriors” the best but that is another story. What is next, Poltergeist?? BOOOOOO!! Don’t ruin the classics!!!!!

  9. Whitney says:

I really hope that it’s decent. I liked the F13 remake, it seemed like they stayed true to the other movies in the series (for the most part). I also really liked the Halloween remake. Hopefully, the NOES remake does the same.

  10. Heidi says:

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Michael Bay, Marcus Nispel; suck it hard, you talentless dips.

  11. Kerry says:

@ Erin – did you go to Hersey or Elk Grove High School? I am excited that they filmed it at my alma mater EGHS! (Big up for Chicago suburbs!) They cast only boys for a pool scene there… wondering what will happen in the water!

  12. Keishon says:

@Chase — Freddy is soooo much more scarier than Jason IMHO. You can outrun Jason, hop a few planes or something and he loses the trail. Plus he’s easily distracted and prefers to kill naughty teens. With Freddie, you can’t escape sleep. He does not discriminate, he even tortured an unborn baby. And even if you beat him, if one person remembers him, he’s back. ;)
