American fans are nastier? Really? I guess I have never met a hardcore soccer fan that’s from the U.S. so Im surprised at that assertion. I always hear about football hooliganism in Europe so I thought their fans would be much more hardcore than giving the middle finger. And I dont get that argument that Beckham was upset to find out that soccer is not that big here- not much of a secret- and that’s why he left. He sat out most of the games when he was here so how did the U.S. not offer him enough? I call B.S.

its like the yo mama jokes, sometimes words dig in too personally. its human nature and I am sure david isnt the alien i once read he was, lol.

He oviously had high hopes when he signed on to the Galaxy team, and he has undoubtedly given them more publicity then they would have ever been given before. he should just give the money back, break the contract and play for a real football team

@mimi — I can absolutely blame him for signing a contract and then deciding to leave for another team. It is quite easy to pass judgment when a professional athlete cannot control himself no matter what was said to him by fans. It’s absurd to think that a professional cannot control themselves in this manner.

I honestly can’t blame Beckham for this incident or for wanting to play with AC Milan. All he wants to do is just play a sport that he loves to his full potential and the US can’t offer him that. In Europe, football is a major sport and there is a lot of hype surrounding it. Meanwhile, “soccer” isn’t even considered a real sport by most people over here.
Also, Beckham has been a professional football player for quite some time now and im pretty sure he knows how to conduct himself during games. On that note, we don’t know what the fan said to him that might have pushed his buttons so we cant pass judgement on him for reacting the way he did.

I don’t see why he should want to stay with the team if the “fans” constantly boo and flip him off… Just let him go back to Europe where the fans appreciate him and his efforts.

Yeah people are pretty much done with his ass. Went to a Galaxy game at the Meadowlands last week and he was called David Wackem or booed at about the entire time. Well he’s hot and they won 2-1 so I’m thinking he wins in the end.

I don’t know why Beckham is being such a baby. He should have expected this type of reaction from Galaxy fans. He is being paid millions by a team that he does not even want to play for.

My partner is English and he says that American fans are a lot nastier and more mean-spirited than the English soccer fans. From the games I have seen with him, Premiere League fans tend to sing funny songs ribbing the players but it isn’t as nasty as what Galaxy fans were doing. I get that their feelings are hurt etc and it is a complex situation. Beckham should not fall for it, however. He came over here for the money and should have known the fans were going to be angry/mean spirited after the way he has acted.
