Christian Bale Slims Down Significantly For His New Film ‘The Fighter’
Christian Bale is an actor that is well-known for his intense commitment to getting into character when he is filming a new movie role. A few years ago, right before he donned the black cape and cowl for Batman Begins, Bale lost a significant amount of weight in order to portray a deathly thin character in his film The Machinist (incidentally, within a few months after he completed work on Machinist, he bulked up for his role in Batman). It appears that Bale is at it again. Here are a couple of photos of Christian on the set of his new film The Fighter wherein he plays a boxer turned drug addict:

Yeesh … Christian does look really gaunt and really frail. He deffo has that cracked out druggie look going for him. But, in case you’re not familiar with his film The Machinist, he slimmed down a lot more for that film:

Christian’s bone-thin appearance was not due to special effects … he actually lost all the weight to look this painfully thin for the role. You gotta respect an actor that will go to such lengths for a movie role. He looks terrible but it’s clearly the look he is going for. Yikes!

That can’t be healthy.

He’s beyond amazing. He really throws himself into his roles. Still love him…even after the tyrade he threw. Maybe it’s wrong – but that made me love him a little more! (yeah I got issues!) But shows how dedicated he is to his work and his movies.
Can’t wait for him to put some lbs back on & get HOT again!!

wow… that is so unhealthy…

Nasty…if you haven’t seen the Machinist then you should. It is a damn good movie!!! You will see why the weight fits but it is so crazy how dedicated he is to his roles!

that is what you call pure dedication.omg i had heard about the machinest but i had no idea he looked so frightiningly thin.i don’t think i could bare to watch him looking like that for too long.he’s certainly a great actor who deserves credit and respect for his dedication.thanks for posting

i would to say i respect the dedication. but i cant, that has to be realllly unheathly. i know it kinda comes with the job to have to gain/lose weight all the time, but taking it to extremes like that can really screw with your body.

HOW! Just a few weeks ago he looked so muscly and normal! How could he possibly drop this much weight in such a SHORT SHORT time :s

That man’s internal organs must be mush by now. I wish he’d just left this role to a naturally thinner actor. He’s getting like those actresses that get plastic surgery or starve themselves to get roles.

Yeah they are filming “the Fighter” in my town of lowell ma.. but haven’t seen them around yet.. I will keep you posted if I see anything

That’s got to be so unhealthy – it’s no different from a woman yoyo-ing – it makes me think of Renee Zelleweger (sp?) when she went up and down for Bridget Jones – it’s got to be so bad for your body. Hopefully he has his head screwed on and he’s doing this in the healthiest way possible.

He does not look good. :( He is ruining his body!

Not only is it unhealthy to drop that much weight in that much time, but the fact that he dropped a ton of weight, put it on again fast for batman, and then lost again quickly for this is really bad.

I admire his dedication. He truly is a method actor. But that can’t be healthy.

I agree with Ann! When I first saw those pictures I became very worried about his internal organs and his teeth. He’s got such an unusual smile that I like very much so I hope his teeth do not drop out of his head because of this. Someone give him an Oscar so he can stop.

Well, you gotta work a bit harder when your acting becomes worse and worse. Or maybe there is a correlation?

I totally respect actors who gain/lose a significant amount of weight for their roles but at the same time it’s almost silly. Christian Bale is an excellent actor but at the same time he doesn’t get recognized by the Academy for his work. It’s total bullshit. I would say he’s about a B-List star.

omg he looks like he is going to die
July 14th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
We have to respect? How can any sane person respect someone doing that to their body – endangering their health, for a movie? There are people that thin that are sick, not by choice.
July 14th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
wow I am totally gonne hang with him
“i’ll have what he is having”
July 14th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
I’ve seen the Machinst. He was REALLY thin. Damn…whats his secret? I wish I could control my weight like that.
July 15th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Does this mean that Christian Bale is now yelling at his own insides to get off the set?
When Bale spotted a slightly elevated love handle in a particulaly intense scene he was working, he yelled “It’s the second time that you don’t give a (bleep) about what is going on in front of the camera, all right? I’m trying to (bleepin’) do a scene here, and I am going “Why the —- is this millimeter of pudge doing in here? Do you understand my mind is not in the scene if you’re attached to my upper waist?!”

OH FUCKING EWWWWWW. Though yes he is a dedicated/method actor, let us not do this kinda measures. Like Heath, he was…phenomenal in Dark Knight, but still, its dangerous :S If I was an actor, I definitely could not lose a substantial amount of weight like that :/
