Taylor Momsen, who stars as Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl and apparently fronts a rock band called Pretty Reckless, played a show with her bandmates at the Hiro Ballroom in NYC, NY last night in celebration of her super sweet 16th birthday. I never knew that Taylor Momsen had any musical talent to speak of … and by the Courtney Loveness of the way she looked on stage last night, I’d say the jury is still out on her talents. But, she’s young, rich, famous and on a hit TV series … if she wants to play in a band, then she gets to play in a band. Paris Hilton, who is very fond of sheltering a vast menagerie of pets from various species of animal, has added a new addition to her collection … and then immediately threw it into a bag so she could show it off in public. Here are a couple pics of Paris‘s new pussy … cat:

Without going into the fact that Paris Hilton prolly has way too many pets to take care of them all properly, I will say that this little kitty is really very cute. And, in all honesty, Paris looks pretty nice herself. I’m sure I have no idea what her pet count is up to these days but I do hope that she will take care of this little kitten in the manner it deserves to be treated. Well, I’ve got my fingers crossed at least.

Clearly Brit Brit is back from her most recent European jaunt where she was performing new shows for her tour The Circus starring Britney Spears. Sooooo cute! The more I see Britney with Jason the more I like them together. He’s the perfect older hottie for her, I think. They look so happy together. Britney isn’t quite finished with all the hard work just yet. She has a whole new North American Tour to get thru and then a few dates to perform in Australia before she’s completely finished. And who knows, mebbe they’ll add more dates along the way? Homegirl has been working hard, y’all … she’s due for some rest and relaxation. It looks like she’s got the right guy to take care of her … which I love!! Long live Britwick!!

Awesome news for both fans of the band Garbage AND the Guitar Hero series of video games. Shirley Manson, frontwoman for Garbage, has been made into a digitized character and will appear in Guitar Hero 5. She is only the second female performer to get the Guitar Hero treatment. You may recall that just yesterday we saw video of Shirley surprising the No Doubt audience by coming out to do a surprise performance at the ND show here in LA on Monday night … and now we learn this amazing news?! Methinks we’re about to enjoy a Shirley Manson/Garbage resurgence very soon :) Here is our first look at what Shirley‘s Guitar Hero character will look like:

Garbage’s Shirley Manson is set to feature as a playable character in the forthcoming ‘Guitar Hero 5′ computer game … “They did a scan of my face then I had to put on this weird suit, it was super-freaky,” the singer said of the process of appearing in the game … The game is expected to be released this autumn. Music by acts including Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Nirvana, The White Stripes and Coldplay is set to feature in it.

Spent a quiet night in last night … just putzed around the house and read. I’ve started reading the classic J.D. Salinger book The Cather in the Rye …

… mainly because I want to read the unauthorized book 60 Years Later: Coming through Rye by Swedish author John David California:

As you may or may not know, California‘s book has been published in the UK but has been barred from publication here in the US due to copyright restrictions … it’s an unauthorized sequel to Catcher that Salinger (now 90 years old) himself is not happy with and sued to halt US publication. I managed to order a copy from Amazon UK but want to reread The Catcher in the Rye before tackling this forbidden sequel. It’s been AGES since I read Catcher so I figured I’d read it again before reading the unauthorized sequel. I had forgotten what a fun book it is. Did you know that in 1981, The Catcher in the Rye was both the most banned AND most taught book in the US? Reading is fundamental, y’all. Some friends and I are talking about starting a book club so I’ll be reading for that soon PLUS I’m really anxious to start re-reading the entire Harry Potter series again. I’ll be in full book worm mode, y’all.

Anyways … yeah, kept it quiet yesterday. No plans for today. Life is good ;)

Jimmy Fallon, that loveable late-night talk show host who used to make us laugh sometimes on Saturday Night Live, has very famously made it his life’s mission to reunite the cast of the 90′s TV series Saved By The Bell for a possible appearance on his show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He even got SBTB star Mark-Paul Gosselaar to appear on his show in character as Zack Morris last month. Well … I’ve got news and bad news for Jimmy … the Saved By The Bell kids have decided to reunite BUT they chose to do so on the cover of People magazine rather than on his show. How’s that for a hearty slap in the face?

Two decades after the show’s debut, the cast of “Saved by the Bell” has reunited! Mario Lopez (Slater), Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack), Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie), Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly) and Lark Voorhies (Lisa) look back at their TV high school days — in the new issue of People magazine. Fans of the cult TV sitcom can thank Jimmy Fallon, who started a petition to reunite the Bayside High class of ’90, but where is Dustin Diamond (Screech)? Now a stand-up comedian, Diamond tells People he is no longer close with his castmates and he’s working on a tell-all called “Behind the Bell.” For more about the “Saved by the Bell” cast and what they have been up to, pick up People magazine — on stands this Friday, July 31.

Whew … I’m actually glad that Dustin Diamond (Screech) was not included in this fun reunion. He has turned into quite the sleeze in recent years (BLECH! who could ever forget that disgusting sex tape he was peddling a few years ago). It’s kinda crappy, tho, that the cast decided to diss Jimmy Fallon for the cover of People magazine. Jimmy has been working so hard to get these guys back together and POOF! People magazine does it one fell swoop. Nonetheless, it is great to see the gang back together again. I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it.

HMMM … you knew this was coming. Yesterday we learned from Kelly Clarkson herself that she is pretty pissed that the song she co-wrote with One Republic‘s Ryan Tedder, Already Gone, sounds a helluva lot like the song he wrote for Beyoncé called Halo (you might’ve heard of it?). Speaking on Canadian radio, Kelly expressed her displeasure first with Tedder for seemingly pawning off a song he wrote for someone else on her and second her displeasure with her record company for choosing to release her song as a single (because it would seem to fans as if she were stealing from Beyoncé). Now, I’m hearing that her bosses at her record label are PISSED themselves that she is talking publicly about her feelings on this matter and are threatening to STOP all future promotion (ie. music videos, live performances, TV interviews, etc.) of her album All I Ever Wanted as punishment:

In his defense, Ryan Tedder posted a blogpost on his official My Space profile yesterday kinda sorta responding to the controversy. Shortly after he posted his message, the blogpost was deleted from his profile … methinks, he was asked to remove it. Nonetheless, I managed to save the text of his post … here it is in full:

Hey everyone, Ryan here. So…..i’m in Europe on vacation with my wife yesterday when I get a flurry of emails with links to gossip sites and media outlets saying “Kelly clarkson throws producer Ryan Tedder under the bus re: Already Gone” etc etc etc… Alleging that I copied myself or “pulled a fast one” on Kelly Clarkson. This couldn’t be farther from the truth and the whole thing is absurd….however, I need to actually read what the hell is going on, make a call or 2, and be fully informed of it, then I assure you I will have a proper, respectful response. I don’t take allegations of this nature lightly- ESPECIALLY when it’s in regards to artists I respect and admire. Nor do I let things like this go unaddressed. So, give me a minute, and I’ll tell u whatsup and what really happened, or in this case, “didn’t” happen.

HMMM … I mean, what else is the guy gonna say? Altho Tedder removed his My Space blogpost, he did release an official statement in its place today:

“‘Already Gone’ is one of the best song I’ve written or produced since “Bleeding Love” and stands tall on it’s own merits apart from “Halo”. They are two entirely different songs conceptually, melodically, & lyrically and I would never try to dupe an artist such as Kelly Clarkson or Beyoncé into recording over the same musical track, the idea is both hurtful & absurd. I think when people hear “Already Gone” they will hear what I hear-one of the greatest female vocalists on earth giving her most haunting and heart-breaking performance on a song she helped write. I challenge people to listen and form their own opinions.”

Uhhh, Ryan … we have listened to both songs and it seems pretty clear to me that the same music was pawned off on two different singers. OY! Kelly Clarkson can hear it too and because she was brave enough to speak up about it, she is now reportedly being punished … for the second time now. As you may recall, Kelly already butt heads with her record company bosses (music mogul Clive Davis, to be exact) when she released her last album My December which, IMHO, led to the disc’s poor performance in sales and on the charts. Kelly may have released a statement saying that everything was “fine” with her record company bosses in the wake of that controversy but we know it was all a spin job. This latest threat seems to be right up her alley … she speaks up honestly and then gets punished by her bosses. It remains to be seen if the threat will really be carried out but if we hear nothing from Kelly Clarkson in the coming weeks and months, well, you’ll know why.

About two weeks ago we learned the sad yet not all that surprising news that Jessica Simpson and beau Tony Romo were dunzo after Tony decided to dump her on the eve of her birthday. Since then, Jess has kept a relatively low profile … only tweeting a few times to prove to fans that she is doing A-OK. But, it looks like her time of mourning is over and she is ready to show her face again … she’s also, apparently, showing off some new bling as well. But, before you get all excited for her, the ring is not a gift from a new man … it’s actually a consolation prize that she walked away with from a listening party for one of her father’s new acts. Jessica Simpson is sporting a new diamond ring today. No, she and Tony Romo haven’t reconciled with an engagement. Ms. Simpson hit a listening party in Hollywood last night for An-Ya, a Russian pop singer signed to Joe Simpson’s music label. Before the night was over, Jessica walked away with a $10,000 5-carat ring from party host jewelry designer Pascal Mouawad’s Black and White Diamond Collection. “If you didn’t already know Jessica just went through a breakup, you really would have no way of telling from the way she was behaving at the event,” an eyewitness reported. “She really seemed happy.” While Jessica refused to do media at the soiree, Papa Joe gave us an update on his unlucky-in-love offspring. “She’s good,” Joe said. “She’s doing very good.” Not too sure if she’ll be feeling the same when she gets wind of US Weekly’s new cover story. The celeb tabloid claims Romo is already smitten with a new gal, recent college graduate Natalie Smith (her dad is the athletic director from Romo’s alma mater, Eastern Illinois University). Smith denies to the mag that there was a romance. A rep for Romo declined to comment when we asked about the report earlier today. At least Jessica has work to help take her mind away from Romo. Joe said they leave for Japan in a couple of weeks to work on her upcoming VH1 reality show about beauty.

Ah, Jess … who needs a boyfriend when you’ve got Papa Joe Simpson always at the ready. Lawd, that girl is gonna be single forever … I just know it. But, it’s good that she’s feeling well enough to start going out to events again … hopefully she will be able to move on and away from this latest break-up and focus on her career. Granted, she hasn’t had the best luck in that arena either but … well, keep on keepin’ on, Jessica. You can do it!
