Last May we learned that the 3rd season of the sci-fi masterpiece series Torchwood would be airing as a unified 5-part miniseries titled Children of Earth. The entire mini-series has already aired in the UK and aired Mon-Fri of this week here in the US … but in case you missed any of it, the entire series can be seen IN FULL on BBC America tomorrow starting at 1pm:

I was sent the entire mini-series on DVD and HOLY EFFING SHIZZ is it awesome! I’ll be spending my afternoon finishing up the eps I’ve yet to see but I strongly urge those of you with the time (or the DVR space) to tune in to BBC America tomorrow to catch the entire mini-series. The first ep get things off with a creepy BANG! that will surely pull you in and force you to watch the rest of the eps. Torchwood is one of those amazing shows that gets everything right … the writing, the acting, the storytelling … if you’re not watching Torchwood you are doing yourself a grave disservice. Check it out y’all, I promise you will love it!!

The amazing Showtime series Dexter is among the TV series’ that is taking advantage of the fandom at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend as principal castmembers of the show were on hand to discuss where the show about the serial killer with a heart is going into its upcoming 4th season. Here are a couple of the cute baby posters that have been released (these two are different from the one we saw previously back in June) to promote the upcoming new season (Dexter is a new daddy) along with our first look at video footage from season 4:

Let us count the ways Showtime is merchandising Dexter, its serial killer drama! As revealed at Comic-Con today, there will be animated “Dexter Early Cuts” on Showtime.com this fall, a special application for iPhones called “Dexter: The Game,” and (strange) action figures of all your favorite Dexter characters. “When I was shooting the pilot, I didn’t think it would come to this,” groused star Michael C. Hall during the show’s packed panel. But it’s the new killer that seems to have the cast most juiced for its Sept. 27 season premiere on Showtime: John Lithgow joins the action this season as the “Trinity” killer, aka “the most successful serial killer ever.” The thousands of Dexter fans who filled Ballroom 20 today got a sneak peek of Lithgow’s upcoming work, which, naturally, included a scene of him slitting the throat of a helpless brunette. Lithgow, who joined the panel along with the always charming Hall, among others, wouldn’t divulge much about his character. But he did joke that his first victim was “High Commander Dick Solomon”—his memorable character on the long-running sitcom Third Rock From the Sun. “This character has so many layers and colors,” he teased. Family and a new baby will figure significantly in the fourth season—the teaser included scenes of a sleep-deprived Dexter failing at his day job as a blood splatter expert—but Hall admitted it’s early yet to question whether the apple falls far from the tree. “The baby has yet to exhibit any signs,” Hall said. “It’s possibly there, lurking.”

I have to admit … I didn’t love the last season. The whole Jimmy Smits character really turned me off … the season picked up at the end so I’m hoping that the upcoming 4th season will carry on from there. Season 1 was amazing (who could forget the Ice Truck Killer who turned out to be Dexter‘s long-lost brother!) as was Season 2 (psycho-beyotch Lila really made the show very, very interesting … as did the far too snoopy Sergeant James Doakes) … let’s just overlook season 3 and look forward to the introduction of John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer. Oh man … I can’t WAIT! And so, without further ado, let’s check out the NEW video trailer for the upcoming 4th season of Dexter after the jump …

Last night I went out for dinner with my dear friend Mike to celebrate his birthday. Because his actual birthday party was last Saturday night, the night that David took me to the ballet for my birthday, we decided to do birthday dinner together last night in fine belated fashion. Mike chose Simon LA as the eatery so … eat we did:

It was really nice for just the two of us to hang out and talk … we haven’t had the opportunity to do so in some time. The food was excellent but the highlight had to be the dessert sampler plate! ‘Twas divine, I tells ya! After dinner, we had a few drinks at the Stone Rose Lounge. We didn’t stay out too late but long enough to catch up on what’s been going on in our lives lately.

I’m not sure what I’m gonna do today … I think I may venture out for a movie. Did any of y’all see any movies last night? Any recs? It’s quiet around here with David gone … I’m anxious for him to get back home again tomorrow night ;)

Prince William participated in an event that was meant to highlight the plight of homeless youth in the UK yesterday but, unfortch for him, ended up highlighting the fact that his hair is thinning at an exponential rate. Prince Wills has been suffering from hair loss for some time now but, for the most part, he’s been able to keep it relatively under wraps. But on a wind-swept mountain yesterday, Wills could no longer hide the fact that the poor guy is losing his hair … much like his father Prince Charles:

Prince William battled torrential rain to trek up a Cumbrian mountain with a group of young homeless people today. The royal completed the two-hour fell walk with youngsters from Centrepoint in Newcastle, which supports young people living on the streets. William, who is patron of the charity, said it was a great opportunity to provide them with a different perspective on life. “A lot of these guys have never done anything like this so it is a real challenge for them and I have really enjoyed meeting them,” he said. He spent much of the Ullswater Valley trek with 18-year-old Jonny Glendinning, who has 19 piercings on his face and body. Their unlikely friendship began when William joked that his facial piercings might freeze in the inclement conditions. Mr Glendinning, who was made homeless last year when his mother threw him out, said: “We were chatting about my piercings and he joked they would freeze up in this weather. I think he was a bit surprised when I said they have done before. I didn’t know he was coming until last night but he was a lot more down-to-earth than I expected, he was canny.” William supported the group throughout the trek and, when they reached the summit, he told 19-year-old Rebecca Burden: “See, I told you that you would make it, it was easy wasn’t it?” The prince wore a Patterdale Mountain Rescue jacket for the walk from Greenside Mines to Helvellyn mountain. Team leaders from the Mountain Rescue England and Wales charity, for which William is also patron, arranged the expedition. Staffed by 3,000 volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, the charity makes more than 900 rescues a year, half of which are carried out by the 12 Lake District teams. William said: ‘These men and women are unsung heroes. They are up and down these mountains rescuing people with broken legs every day.’ He also helped the youngsters from Centrepoint to raise a London 2012 flag to mark three years until the start of the Olympics. Later Prince William, a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF, will board a steam boat with families who are looked after by WellChild, the national charity for sick children.

Balding or not, I still love Prince William. He seems like such a stand-up guy, I’ve been quite impressed with pretty much every interview of him I’ve ever seen or read. He is a shining example of the best the British Royal Family has to offer. It’s such a bummer that the poor guy is losing his hair at such a young age tho :( Mebbe he can put in a call to Beyoncé‘s people and mebbe she can hook him up with a righteous weave or something? In any event, I’m sure Wills will continue his hard work for the people of Great Britain … but I’d suggest he wear more hats, we wouldn’t want him catching his death with that much exposed scalp.

She got the party started at the stroke of midnight when her compatriots from her new film The Back-Up Plan surprised her on the NYC set with a massive birthday cake … with her face on it:

Jennifer Lopez got the party started early for her 40th birthday. At midnight this morning, the singer-actress — who turns 40 today — celebrated with husband Marc Anthony and the cast and crew of The Back-Up Plan on the flick’s New York City set. She was all smiles while toasting with champagne and blowing out the candles on the giant chocolate cake, which featured a huge photo of herself. Lopez — who donned an off-the-shoulder top — also hugged crew members who presented her with a bouquet of white flowers. “Alex, make a toast!” Lopez is heard saying to her costar Alex O’Loughlin in a video of the party. “Happy birthday. Welcome back, baby! To Jennifer!” he says, holding up a bottle of champagne.

If Jennifer Lopez had been hoping to let her 40th birthday slip by unnoticed, she was out of luck. The actress, who spent the day working on the set of latest film The Back-Up Plan, was last night treated to a glamorous surprise birthday party. Organised by husband Marc Anthony, details of the party at Hotel Griffou in Greenwich Village, New York, were kept under wraps – but there was no mistaking the birthday girl as she made her arrival. The mother-of-two looked stunning in a silver gown and statement diamond earrings. The figure-hugging fabric made the most of her enviable body, while the shimmering shade set off her tan. Marc Anthony looked proud as he posed with his wife outside the venue, his arm never leaving her side. It is believed that he was trying to out-do her efforts after she threw him a star-studded birthday party for his 40th last year.

It’s nice to know that LopAnthony still like to try and surprise one another … it’s a sure sign that they are very much in lurve. J. Lo looked amazing in her silver dress but I’d expect nothing less from La Diva Latina herself. It’s pretty crazy to think that the fly girl we met on In Living Color all those years ago has grown into a 40-year old wife and mother of two … and she’s still going strong. Happy Birthday, J. Lo!

Last weekend, David Beckham and the LA Galaxy faced his other professional soccer team AC Milan in a friendly exhibition match at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. As you may recall, the game ended in a 2-2 tie but it was an incident at half-time that was the real talk of the game. Becks was greeted by unhappy Galaxy fans who heckled and jeered him thruout the match (fans who take great issue with Becks‘s commitment to the team). At half-time, Becks confronted the angry fans and encouraged one of them to come out of the stands to shake his hand (or something) … the fan complied and jumped down from the stands only to be apprehended and thrown out of the stadium. As a result of that action, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber fined David Beckham $1,000 for his unsportsman-like conduct:

Los Angeles Galaxy megastar midfielder David Beckham has been fined $1,000 by Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber for his interaction with a fan at halftime of last Sunday’s exhibition game against AC Milan. At the end of the first half, Beckham approached the part of The Home Depot Center stands where members of the “L.A. Riot Squad” — the team’s most hardcore fans — sit. He gestured to a fan to come toward him. The fan, identified by California State Dominguez Hills officials as Joshua Paige, came out of the stands toward Beckham and was cited for trespassing. The university’s police department provided security for the game. Beckham said after the game that, “The fans were absolutely saying certain things that shouldn’t be said to anybody.” “I walked over after the whistle and said, ‘You need to calm down and try to support the team.’ One of them jumped over and I thought it was to shake my hand, but maybe not.” Several fans gave a different account, saying Beckham gestured toward the fan and said, “Come down here,” followed by an expletive. After issuing the citation, Commissioner Garber said, “Our players should never engage in conduct that can be interpreted as encouraging fans to come out of the stands and onto the field, regardless of the situation.” Galaxy coach-general manager Bruce Arena said the team registered the incident, and the L.A. Riot Squad has issued a lifetime ban to Paige. Some Galaxy fans were upset that Beckham orchestrated an extension of his loan agreement to AC Milan from March through the May 31 end of the Serie A season, causing him to miss the Galaxy’s first 17 games of the 30-game Major League Soccer season. Boos clearly outnumbered cheers when Beckham was introduced before the game. Such signs as “Go home fraud” with a red slash through his No. 23 and “Hey Becks, Here Before You, Here After You, Here Despite You” were sprinkled among the capacity crowd of 27,000, the Galaxy’s first sellout of the season. Beckham drew cheers for assisting on both Galaxy goals in the 2-2 tie. Beckham’s next game in Southern California will be an Aug. 1 exhibition against Spanish champion FC Barcelona at the Rose Bowl.

HMMM … when the incident happened last weekend, I don’t recall that Becks said “calm down and support the team” … his behavior looked much more confrontational. But, whatever the case may be, taunting the fans is a rookie move and Becks should know better. I think it makes sense that the MLS Commissioner would decide to fine Becks for his actions … in all honesty, I bet Beckham shines his shoes with $1,000. More big news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con this weekend … of particular interest to Joss Whedon fans of the Buffyverse. At yesterday’s panel discussion of Dollhouse, Joss dished a bit about what we can expect from season 2 and spilled the beans that two Buffyverse alums will be joining the show next season. As was previously reported, there was word that Summer Glau (ex-Firefly, Serenity) would be joining the cast since her FOX TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been canceled … at yeasterday’s panel, Joss confirmed that Summer will, indeed, be joining the cast in some capacity. BUT, in somewhat surprising news, Joss also revealed that Alexis Denisof (ex-Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) will also be joining the cast in some capacity. The Buffyverse takes care of it’s own, y’all! This is amazingly AMAZING news!!

Proof that it pays to come to Comic-Con: On Friday, rabid Joss Whedon fans got to see an unaired 13th episode of Dollhouse that takes place 10 years into the future. Positioned as a veritable road map for the fledgling series, the episode tries to address the apocalyptic outcome of the Dollhouse world – i.e., what happens when too many memories are wiped and everyone becomes, well, zombies. Shot on video for about $1 million less than what a typical episode costs, according to one source, the episode features mostly new characters discovering a deserted dollhouse, but Eliza Dushku’s beloved Echo makes a cameo appearance. Sound confusing? Well, relax — it’s not going to air and potentially upset the show’s mojo (though it will be included in the Dollhouse DVD). But Whedon did promise this to his fans at Comic-Con:

“We intend to honor what you saw here.” That’s true: Moving forward, Whedon plans to save Fox some cash by only shooting Dollhouse on video (trust us, it still looks good). Here are some other promises for season two: Angel alum Alexis Denisof and The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Summer Glau will make appearances. And Whedon will “continue to deal with the abuse of power and what it brings out in the characters.” That prompted one fan to inquire about Whedon’s obsession with big corporations. “Have you been in America?” Whedon replied. “I consider myself a great documentarian… There is power and manipulation [everywhere]. That’s why I like this show so much.”

WOOOT! and HOLY SHIZZ!! This really is great news. Because it was a struggle just to get Dollhouse renewed for a second season (as it stand, it only got renewed for a short second season) it makes sense that Whedon would want to pull out all the stops in order to help keep the show going … but he always does things on his terms. I have the utmost confidence that Joss Whedon will take Dollhouse to new heights. The show is just good, it’s really just a matter of getting people to see it. It is my opinion that exiling the show to Friday nights is not the way to get people on board but that decision is on FOX. In any event, I am SO excited to see where season 2 of Dollhouse takes us … with Summer and Alexis making appearances on the show, it’s bound to kick all ass. Where my Buffyverse peeps at?! Isn’t this amazing news??

In news that should come as no surprise to pretty much anyone, People magazine is reporting that LeAnn Rimes and hubby Deane Sheremet have separated. In the wake of reports that LeAnn has been creepin’ around on her husband with other men (namely Eddie Cibrian and Dean Cain … but mostly Eddie Cibrian), People quotes sources close to the couple that claim that they haven’t been living together for quite some time … they’re dunzo, y’all:

Four months after reports surfaced that LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian were allegedly having an affair, a source tells PEOPLE that the country singer is no longer living with her husband, Dean Sheremet. “Le and Dean have been separated for quite some time now, but they’re continuing to try and work through their relationship, a Rimes pal says. The couple married in 2002, when she was only 19. Last August (six months before their seventh anniversary), they threw a “Seven-Year Itch” party to, as Rimes put it, “remember how blessed we are.” … Cibrian, 36, who is joining the cast of C.S.I. Miami this fall, has denied he was having an affair with Rimes, his costar in the Lifetime original movie Northern Lights, which they filmed last fall. In March, the Rimes pal confirmed the singer and Sheremet were having problems in their marriage, but maintained Cibrian was “not the cause,” adding, “There have been issues brewing for months prior to meeting Eddie on set.” The couple’s Nashville home is currently on the market for $7.45 million.

As you may recall, we learned earlier this week that Cibrian and his wife Brandi Glanville announced that they are dunzo … so it makes sense that LeAnn and Deane would be having their problems as well, that is, if these reports of infidelity are to be believed. It really sucks for Sheremet and Glanville to be tied to such seemingly untrustworthy people. They are the ones suffering most in all of this because they are essentially being made fools of in the public eye. However any of this plays out, I hope that the spouses are able to recoup some restitution from their cheating louses … while it’s no substitution for a happy marriage, I’m sure large divorce settlements will go a long way in helping them attain some sense of satisfaction.
