Family, friends and colleagues pay their final respects
A Final Farewell To Walter Cronkite

A large audience of family, friends and colleagues filled St. Bartholomew’s Church in midtown Manhattan yesterday afternoon to pay their final respects to Walter Cronkite, “the most trusted man in America”. As you may recall, Cronkite passed away at age 92 last weekend after he succumbed to dementia and took with him a bygone era of news reporting that, for the most part, shaped the way America viewed world events for so many years. Fans lined Park Avenue to pay homage to Cronkite as his casket was carried out of the church and to its final resting place:

Loved ones, friends and colleagues gathered Thursday for Walter Cronkite’s funeral as flowers arrived at the church and tourists lingered outside to pay their respects. The service was being held at St. Bartholomew’s Church in midtown Manhattan, where the CBS newsman’s family worshipped for decades. Broadcast journalists — co-workers, competitors, successors — entered the church, including Connie Chung, Bob Schieffer, Diane Sawyer, Brian Williams, Dan Rather, Barbara Walters, Charles Gibson, Matt Lauer, Tom Brokaw, Morley Safer and Meredith Vieira. Spectators lined both sides of Park Avenue, looking on as the casket arrived. Earlier, flowers arrived from Yoko Ono, who wrote: “Walter, my son Sean and I will always remember you! for your kind word to us. You will be missed. With love, Yoko Ono Lennon.” Tourists from Canada were walking to Times Square and saw the news vans outside the church and were told the vans were there for Cronkite’s ceremony. Ethel Bratt and her daughter Holly from Saskatchewan stood outside and remembered how her family followed U.S. news events closely and how tumultuous the 1960s were — with the Vietnam War, the space race, the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy as well as Martin Luther King Jr. “It’s overwhelming to be here,” said Bratt, who’s in her mid-50s. “He was just part of my growing-up years. He was part of the news events of that generation when everything was going on.” Although the service was planned as a traditional burial service from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, announced speakers included “60 Minutes” commentator Andy Rooney and longtime Cronkite producer Sanford Socolow, as well as son Chip Cronkite. For his reporting, Cronkite came to be called “the most trusted man in America” and was widely considered the premier TV journalist of his time. He anchored “The CBS Evening News” from 1962 until 1981. Cronkite died Friday at his Manhattan home at 92. A separate memorial will be held within the next few weeks at New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

It is so sad that there are all of these deaths to report on this Summer … even tho Walter Cronkite had lived a long and very esteemed life, it doesn’t really soften the blow when we hear of another person passing away – no matter how old they were. Cronkite is a legend in the news world and he will always be remembered as the most trusted man in America. After his many, many years of service to us he is finally able to rest in peace. Rest well, Walter.

"If Omer's his son, he's his son. We won't deny it."
Jermaine Jackson Reveals That Michael Jackson COULD’VE Fathered A Secret Son

Jermaine Jackson is talking these days about the possibility that Michael Jackson might’ve fathered a secret son after a one-night stand in the 80′s. After Omer Bhatti, the boy long ago claimed to be MJ‘s “secret son”, was photographed seated next to the Jackson family at Michael Jackson‘s memorial service earlier this month, the subject of the young man’s paternity began to take on new meaning. If Omer was not related to MJ, why was he seated next to MJ‘s sisters Rebbie and Janet Jackson in the front row of the service with the rest of the Jackson family? Jermaine does confess that he does not know for sure if Omer Bhatti is MJ‘s son but he does insist that if it is proven that he is, Omer will be welcomed into the family and will be treated with “the same love and care [given to] Prince and Paris and Blanket”. Here is a pic of Jermaine answering these tough questions in London, England this week along with photos of Omer Bhatti when he was a child and at MJ‘s memorial service with the Jackson family:

Michael Jackson’s brother Jermaine has vowed to welcome Omer Bhatti into the Jackson clan if he proves to be the singer’s fourth child. The 25-year-old Norwegian rapper sat in the front row with the Jackson family at the singer’s memorial service in Los Angeles two weeks ago. Jermaine Jackson said he wasn’t yet sure whether Omer, said to have been the result of a one-night stand, was his brother’s son. But if he was a Jackson, he would be treated exactly the same as Michael’s three younger children, he said. “If Omer’s his son, he’s his son,” Jermaine declared yesterday. “We won’t deny it. We are going to give him the same love and care that we give Prince and Paris and Blanket. I can’t clearly say if he is Michael’s but I saw this kid around him.” Jermaine said Omer, who as a child looked remarkably like Jackson’s seven-year-old son Blanket, was moved to the family seats at the memorial service by Jackson’s eldest sister Rebbie. She wanted him closer to their mother, Katherine. “My sister went and got him during the service and got him to sit closer to my mother,” Jermaine said.

Omer is said to be seeking a DNA test to find out whether Jackson was his father. In dark sunglasses and a black suit, he looked just like a member of the family as he bowed his head while listening to tributes to the King of Pop at the July 7 service. His appearance at the memorial and his physical similarities to Blanket, has fueled speculation that he is the son of the legendary star. Omer has remained in LA since Michael’s death and has been playing with the Jackson children at the family compound in Encino, California. If he is a Jackson, Omer would be the oldest of Michael’s four children, joining Prince Michael, 12, Paris Michael, 11, and Blanket (Prince Michael II) seven. The Thriller singer reportedly told close friends several years ago that he fathered Omer after a one-night stand with a Norwegian fan in 1984.

HMMMM … interesting. I am of a mind that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. We’ve been hearing about Omer Bhatti for many, many years but nothing has ever been proven. The fact that he was seated WITH the Jackson family at the memorial service and Jermaine will not rule out that he’s not MJ‘s son seems to smell a lot like he actually is MJ‘s secret son. You may recall that earlier this week we heard from Star magazine that Pia Bhatti, Omer‘s mother, is rumored to be the biological mother of MJ‘s son Prince Michael Joesph Jackson, II a.k.a. Blanket … it would make sense that MJ would go to her to mother a child if they already shared a child together. Whether or not that report is true has NO bearing on the paternity of Omer Bhatti. It would be pretty stunning if we learned definitively, after all these years, that MJ had been a father since 1984! What do ya’ll think … could Omer Bhatti be MJ‘s secret son?

Johnny Depp Pays A Surprise Visit To Comic-Con

After the Internets went WILD over the release of the first trailer for Tim Burton‘s new Disney film Alice In Wonderland this past Wednesday, it was assumed that the trailer would be the central focal point of the film’s presence at San Diego Comic-Con taking place this weekend. As was assumed, Tim Burton was on hand to personally show the video footage at Comic-Con yesterday … but he brought along a surprise guest with him. Johnny Depp shocked fans by popping up on stage to say hello … before he, almost immediately, disappeared and left the premises:

English heartthrob Robert Pattinson wasn’t due to arrive in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center until later in the afternoon, but he was in real danger of being upstaged by the screams that met Johnny Depp’s surprise appearance Thursday morning at the first panel of the day at Comic-Con International. Depp, dressed in a white shirt and black vest, was on hand to support director Tim Burton, who unveiled a 3-D teaser trailer for his upcoming “Alice in Wonderland,” due out in March. The film draws from a cross-section of Lewis Carroll’s writing, including the Jabberwocky poem. The footage, which prominently featured Depp’s Mad Hatter, mostly highlighted the variety of the fantastic images Burton has assembled for the movie, created using a hybrid of live-action and animation and other techniques. At the urging of moderator Patton Oswalt, it was shown three separate times. “John and I worked together many times, but he’s never done a character with orange hair,” Burton dryly observed from the stage about the Hatter’s unusual aesthetic. “We scalped Carrot Top and took his hair….We realized once we got into it that we picked out every image from TV and cinema of red hair and it’s quite a distributing thing — from Bozo onward,” the director deadpanned.

According to E! News, Johnny uttered just 5 words before POOF! he was gone:

In fact, Depp stopped by, said five words and then totally just left. Here’s what went down: After screening a custom-made trailer for his Comic-Con fans, director Burton asked the crowd if they would like to meet the “imaginary friend” that follows him around. The crowd cheered and Depp, who plays the Mad Hatter, walked onstage in a button-up shirt and fitted black vest. He had long bangs sweeping the side of his face, and wore a thick leather bracelet. After several moments of cheering, Depp whispered into the mic: “Hey. Happy to be here.” And then, poof, he was gone. Moderator Patton Oswalt told the crowd that Depp could reappear later in the day, so “be nice to every guy you see dressed like Jack Sparrow.”

The ONLY person who could upstage Robert Pattinson these days is Johnny Depp … and I kinda love that he just showed up to say hello before running as fast as he could from the venue. Brills. But, getting back to Wonderland, the official poster artwork for the film has been released and features the promo photos that we saw a few weeks ago. While they aren’t all that new, I think they’re worth a second look … as is a pretty cool photo of the Cheshire Cat who was featured in yesterday’s Comic-Con presentation of Alice in Wonderland

Bump Watch!
Sarah Michelle Geller & Freddie Prinze, Jr. Take The Bump On A Date

Here are a few cute photos of the happily pregs Sarah Michelle Gellar enjoying a nice night out on the town with her hubby Freddie Prinze, Jr. here in SoCal as the couple walked hand in hand last night. SMG and FPJ stepped out for a little date night together, which was very nice since we hadn’t seen the two of them out and about together for quite a few weeks. It’s nice that the pair took time out of their bizzy schedules for some alone time:

When last we saw SMG and the bump out and about, she was lunching and shopping with a friend in Santa Monica, CA earlier this week. FPJ has been MIA for some time now, presumably hard at work filming the new season of 24. As you may recall, we learned at the end of May that Freddie had signed on to appear alongside Jack Bauer and the gang on the upcoming 8th season. Altho they weren’t lookin’ too keen on smiling for the cameras, it’s nice to see them spend some time together. It won’t be long until we’re seeing pics of the couple pushing baby strollers around town ;)
