‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Invades Comic-Con

Belly of the Beast
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Today is the first big day of the madness that is known as San Diego Comic-Con and, to make matters more insane, The Twilight Saga: New Moon held their big panel discussion TODAY to get the party started. Here are a few pics of Twilight stars Kristen Stewart (who looked like she wanted to be ANYWHERE but at Comic-Con), Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner posing for the cameras at today’s Comic-Con panel press conference:

Appropriately enough for a movie series about a vampire clan that never sleeps, “Twilight” day at Comic-Con began bright and early. Gathered together at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (July 23) for an invite-only press conference, a small group of reporters took up about a third of the massive ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront hotel, eager to talk fame, fiction and fanpires with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. “This year, I have something to say,” Pattinson laughed, remembering that he was overwhelmed to the point of near speechlessness last year. “It’s much more terrifying.” “This is a severely emotional movie. … There are high points for Bella, but she’s a manic-depressive basically,” Stewart said of her “New Moon” performance. “There was more to think about. It’s a more mature part.” Speaking with other reporters before the event, none of us Comic-Con veterans could recall a movie having an event like this before. Summit Entertainment claimed an entire ballroom for media only, no Twilighters allowed. Not “Lord of the Rings,” not “Iron Man” or anything else had ever needed its own press event — a testament to the enormous growth of both “Twilight” and Comic-Con in general. “It’s crazy,” Lautner said when the trio were asked about how they’ve been dealing with the fame. “None of us saw it coming, and this past year has been a ride for us.” Kristen Stewart, who currently has short black locks to play Joan Jett in “The Runaways,” laughed, “I cut my hair off.” “It’s still so young to me, I can’t claim anything as a low,” Pattinson said when asked about his avalanche of fame. “I live a nearly identical life, except for being recognized. It’s not the worst thing in the world. I never did anything ‘normal’ before — and now, I get other people to do that for me.” Pattinson confirmed that Thursday afternoon’s massive fan event in Hall H will screen a clip featuring him. The line outside the convention center is arguably the longest in Comic-Con history. Speaking specifically about Stephenie Meyer’s franchise, Stewart said, “You’re so much inside [Bella's] head, it feels like home.” “When I play it, I try to eliminate the vampire element as much as I can,” Pattinson said of playing Edward Cullen. “I only see it as a tool to make things more fraught.” “I did a lot of the apparition scenes, which were me doing one line a week,” Pattinson remembered of the ghost-like appearances he filmed at the beginning of the “New Moon” shoot. “I had a stress-free three months. All the pressure was on Taylor.”

Oh Lawd, I can only imagine what the insanity of Comic-Con + the insanity of Twilight fandom equals. It sounds horrifying. Mebbe the Con organizers just put Twilight first so that they could get it over with in the hopes that the rabid Twilighters will dissipate afterward … I guess we’ll have to wait and see. After the jump, check out a short video from today’s Twilight press conference at Comic-Con — one reporter asked each actor to reveal the one question they hope they never get asked again — it’s a must-watch video …

Jake Gyllenhaal Takes In A Dodgers Game

Bears witness to Manny Ramírez's game-winning grand slam homer
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Jake Gyllenhaal was in the hiz at Dodger Stadium last night to root for the LA Dodgers in their game against the Cincinnati Reds. I understand that Jakey poo sat in the posh Dugout Club seats during the sold out 56,000 capacity Manny RamírezBobble-Head Night … behold:

And what a night it was for Manny Ramírezhomeboy hit a 6th inning grand slam home-run that put the Dodgers over the top and led to their 6-2 victory over Cincinnati:

Manny Ramirez hit a tie-breaking pinch-hit grand slam in the sixth inning on his bobblehead night Wednesday, sending the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-2 victory over Cincinnati, their 12th consecutive at home against the Reds. Ramirez was kept out of the starting lineup for precautionary reasons with a sore left hand after being hit by a pitch a night earlier. Fans at the sold-out game chanted “Manny! Manny!” as they saw him in the dugout putting on his batting helmet. Ramirez sent the first pitch from reliever Nick Masset into the “Mannywood” section of lower left field seats for his 21st career grand slam, giving Los Angeles a 6-2 lead and putting the crowd into a frenzy. Teammates shoved Ramirez onto the top step of the dugout, where he waved his cap to acknowledge a standing ovation for his 11th homer of the season and his first career pinch-hit homer. It was Ramirez’s first homer into the “Mannywood” section, which was resurrected after his 50-game suspension for violating baseball’s drug rules ended on July 3. Ramirez’s electrifying moment was the only souvenir for 6,000 fans who went home without a bobblehead, which were limited to the first 50,000.

Damn … what a fun night!! Not only were attendees of last night’s game able to enjoy Jake Gyllenhaal’s presense at the game but they also got to bear witness to a Manny grand slam! AND, 50,000 of them got to take home a bobble-head! FUN!! I need to get my ass back to Dodger Stadium very soon … you never know when another fun night like last night might take place.

Victoria Beckham Goes For A Swing In London

Films a new ad campaign
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Here are a few photos of Vicki B. on a set in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London, England earlier today filming a new commercial campaign for her fancy dress line. It’s not entirely clear if the advert will be for print or television but we do know that it does involve a lot of swinging … behold:

As one half of one of the world’s most famous celebrity couples, Victoria Beckham is photographed on a daily basis. So it must have been refreshing for the style icon to go behind the camera for a change as she took charge of a photo shoot for her dress collection in west London today. While Victoria stayed away from the front of the lens, she was modelling one of her own creations, a £2,095 Carmontelle cashmere-blend dress. And as expected, Victoria was wearing her usual killer heels – opting for a pair of burgundy, patent £480 Christian Louboutin Bianca platform pumps. After jetting in from Los Angeles on Tuesday, Victoria has been meeting staff at her London-based fashion line to plan the launch of the autumn/winter line. Taking advantage of the sunny weather today, Victoria watched a group of slender, young models wear her designs as they sat on swings hung from the porch entrances of Georgian townhouses … Among the creations being modelled was a £1,190 embellished wool jersey dress and a strapless purple satin gown. The upcoming autumn/winter season is the second collection from Victoria, who launched her fashion range last year.

Swing away, Posh … swing away. Personally, if this new ad campaign of hers doesn’t include a mostly nekkid David Beckham, I’m not all that interested. BUT, I suppose the woman’s got to make a living … pimping out her fashion duds seems to make her happy so, good for her. I guess I’m kinda intrigued at what the final product of this shoot will look like … I mean … kinda.

Candie’s Releases A New Britney Spears Commercial

'Radar' redux
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

So … we’ve already seen quite a few promo photos of Britney Spears in the latest ad campaign for clothier Candie’s and we’ve already seen the music video for Britney’s latest single Radar … so today, we get to see a compilation of those two things. Candie’s has released a new commercial which features their new spokesmodel Britney and was filmed while Brit was making her music video for Radar:

To be honest, this commercial is merely an excerpt from Britney’s Radar music video with some small emphasis on the clothes that she is wearing. Meh. It’s nice but … lacking. After the jump, check out the Candie’s commercial in full and see for yourselves …

Gettin’ ‘Tank’ed

The TV Guide
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Yesterday turned out to be another quite night around these here parts. David and I were planning on hanging out with our friend Johnny but he had to cancel due to illness. Being sick in Summer sucks, so I feel for him :( We decided to just stay in and make it a lazy night. I managed to catch the 1995 movie Tank Girl on cable … a movie I hadn’t seen since I saw in theaters back in ‘95:

Tank Girl stars Lori Petty, Naomi Watts, Malcolm McDowell and Ice-T and is based on the very cool post-apocalyptic comic book series of the same name. I had forgotten what a fun movie it is … and the soundtrack is to DIE for. Veruca Salt, Portishead, Björk, Hole, Joan Jett, Bush, Devo … to be honest, I think the soundtrack did better than the film did. Nonetheless, 1995 was a very good year for me and it was nice reminiscing about the good ol’ days with Tank Girl.

Today, David flies off for the weekend to spend some time with his friends. I’ll be here holding down the fort. I have been invited to the album preview event for Whitney Houston’s new disc I Look To You so I’m planning on being there ce soir. I don’t think I can tweet from the event but I’ll do my best to report as best I can … with paper and pen. OY!
