Last April I mentioned that I read a book titled Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which is a mash-up book of the Jane Austen classic and new text written and inserted by author Seth Grahame-Smith. Today we learn that Quirk Books, the publisher of Pride/Zombies, is publishing another Austen mash-up book titled Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Jane Austen and author Ben H. Winters. Entertainment Weekly magazine was able to interview Winters … here is the book cover:

At midnight, the folks at Quirk — who brought you the best-selling Jane Austen mashup Pride and Prejudice and Zombies — announced that they’re back with the next book in the series, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, which goes on sale Sept. 15 (complete with 15 illustrations — we’ve brought you two of them — and a readers’ discussion guide). Quirk editor Jason Rekulak, the creator of the series (”I just thought it would be really funny to desecrate a classic work of literature”) recently said that he didn’t want to go out there “with the one-millionth vampire novel that’s going to be published this year.” P&P&Z’s Seth Grahame Smith did not write this sequel, since he recently left the franchise and signed a hefty contract with Grand Central for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I talked to the series’ new author, Ben H. Winters, last week.

Again … I think she looks fab in these photos. Yes, the pics have been retouched but ALL promo photos like this get retouched. The styling looks great and Lindsay rocks those clothes RIGHT. I’m not really buying the guitar as a prop (something she’s done previously to mixed results) but I guess it’s supposed to make L. Lo look like a rocker. Meh. I think she looks good just posing … and you will note, she doesn’t have her finger in her mouth in any of the photos! Win!! Great pics, Linds. I like. What do y’all think?

Tragedy strikes the Jackson family again today as we learn from US Weekly magazine that Janet Jackson and her man Jermaine Dupri have pretty much ended their relationship. According to JD’s close friends, the couple have been moving in different directions for some time now and, you may have noted, that Jermaine was NOT present at Michael Jackson’s memorial service at the Staples Center earlier this month. By quite a few accounts, Janet and Jermaine are dunzo, y’all:

On July 7, Michael Jackson’s family ­gathered to celebrate him at his much-watched memorial service. Noticeably absent? Janet ­Jackson’s longtime music-exec boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri. (A pal says Dupri skipped the memorial because he “doesn’t attend funerals.”) And for good reason. “His friends are telling people it’s over,” a source tells the new issue of Us Weekly, on stands now. Echoes another: “They have been moving in different directions for a while.” So what drove Jackson, 43, and Dupri, 36, apart after nearly seven years? “You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure,” a mutual pal explains. (Dupri produced several tracks on her last two CDs.) “Janet felt their lives were too crossed and they should have kept things sepa­rate.” Plus, the polar opposites were never too compatible. “Jermaine likes to be out there, mingling with everybody, and ­Janet’s more shy.” (And secretive: She kept her nine-year marriage to Rene Elizondo hidden until their 2000 ­divorce.) Meanwhile, Jackson is still deeply mourning the death of her big brother. “She’s devastated,” an insider says. “She’s busy caring for Michael’s kids. Janet Jackson is notoriously private when it comes to her personal relationships … she was married twice in secret (first to James DeBarge in 1984 and then to René Elizondo, Jr. in 1989) and, for all we know, is married to Jermaine as well. I’ve been hearing that the couple have been on the outs for some time now … I was not surprised at all that JD was not in attendance at MJ’s memorial service last week. To be honest, we may never get confirmation from Janet about the state of her relationship … that girl don’t talk about her personal biz at all. We may have to wait to hear news from JD himself if we’re gonna learn anything for sure. At this point, tho, I tend to believe this report … which is really unfortunate for Janet cuz she’s already dealing with so much right now.

Earlier this week we learned that Jessica Simpson got dumped by her Dallas Cowboys quarterback boyfriend Tony Romo on the eve of her 29th birthday, reportedly because he did not want to participate in her “Barbie & Ken“-themed birthday party. Today, Life & Style magazine gives us our first look at Romo as a free, single man. Tony hooked up with his BFF Ryan Cabrera (who also previously dated a Simpson himself) for a guys’ night out at the Key Club on Sunset Blvd. earlier this week. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo wasted no time having fun as a single man since his recent split from with Jessica Simpson. Life & Style first reported on Tuesday that Tony was at LA’s Key Club the night before partying with singer Ryan Cabrera and actor Dennis Haskins to the sounds of Steel Panther. LOL!! You just KNOW that Tony and Ryan spent part of their night sharing war stories of dating a Simpson daughter. I have *no doubt* that overbearing Papa Joe Simpson is a nightmare to deal with when you are dating one of his daughters (for the life of me, I don’t know how Pete Wentz deals with it) so I’m sure the new BFFs had a lot to commiserate with one another. Yesterday Entertainment Weekly magazine’s annual Comic-Con Issue gave us our first look of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in the new Iron Man 2 film and today they give us our latest look at Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan in his upcoming new film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. As you may recall, Jakey poo stars in Prince of Persia which is based on the popular video game series of the same name. We got our first look of video of Jake as the sexy, beefy and shirtless Prince Dastan back in May … but today, EW brings us this new promo photo:

For Jake Gyllenhaal, playing Prince Dastan in Jerry Bruckheimer’s epic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, due May 28, 2010, was a chance to get into some serious action. (Paparazzi photos of Gyllenhaal on-set have appeared previously, but this is the first official shot of him in character.) “I’m tired of taking myself so seriously,” says the actor, who found himself sword-fighting, climbing walls, and jumping off of buildings as part of the prince’s quest to find an enchanted dagger and turn back time. “It’s nice when a stuntman turns to you and is like, ‘Actors don’t normally do this.’”

Well, this may be the first “official” promo photo released for the film but last March we got our real first look at two very HAWT promo-like photos of Jake as the half-nekkid Dastan on the set of the film. Click HERE to see those photos again … they are deffo worth a second look ;) In any event, I’ll take it all … altho Prince of Persia won’t be released until next year, there is no reason we can’t get little teaser pics and footage in the months leading up to the film’s release. As many of you may recall, Britney Spears suffered a mental breakdown back in January of 2008 and was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold by authorities under medical code 5150 (which essentially means that the patient can be held in the mental ward for up to 72 hours to determine if they are a danger to themselves). Yesterday it was reported that actress Mischa Barton was rushed to the hospital after she suffered a “medical incident” … but, according to sources, it turns out that she, too, was admitted to the psych ward under code 5150. Mischa must undergo further evaluation to determine if she is a danger to herself as she has, apparently, suffered a mental breakdown of her own:

Mischa Barton was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold (also known as a 5150) by the Los Angeles Police Department and transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Wednesday evening, a source close to the situation claimed to Access Hollywood. On Wednesday, Access broke the news that authorities had responded to the Los Angeles home of the starlet after receiving a non-911 call from her residence around 3 PM. A patrol car responded to the scene and began assisting Barton with a “medical issue,” a spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed to Access on Wednesday evening. The source claimed that Barton was placed under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code by police and transported to Cedars-Sinai. According to the code, authorities can hold a person involuntarily if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder. This same code was used to hold Britney Spears twice in Los Angeles in January 2008. When asked about information related to the alleged involuntary hold, an LAPD spokesperson would not comment directly. However, the spokesperson did admit that if any person was held under a 5150, authorities would be prohibited from disclosing the information due to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) laws. According to the California Welfare and Institutions Code, the hospital can hold Barton involuntarily for up to 72 hours. A rep for the actress confirmed to Access that Barton will not attend the world premiere of her new film, “Homecoming,” which happens Thursday night in New York City, but released no further details on the star. Additionally, the director of Barton’s film said in a statement that those involved with the movie were “saddened” Barton will not be at the event. “I along with everyone on the ‘Homecoming’ team are saddened to hear that Mischa Barton will not be able to attend the film’s premiere tonight in New York,” director Morgan J. Freeman said in a statement to Access on Thursday. “Her performance in ‘Homecoming’ is fantastic, and she will be missed at our premiere. “We hope she is OK,” Freeman added, “and that her condition is not serious.” Sources close to the film told Access Barton was due to fly into New York City on Wednesday evening. She had a photo shoot scheduled and was going to head out to the premiere around 3 PM on Thursday. Barton is the star of “Homecoming,” playing Shelby, the ex-girlfriend of a football player in a small town, who does whatever it takes to get her beau back. The film co-stars Jessica Stroup of “90210” and Matt Long of ABC’s “The Deep End.”

Poor Mischa … I was under the impression that she had gotten her life back in order. She scored some work in recent months including a role on the upcoming new series for The CW Beautiful Life. It remains to be seen what exactly the terms of her supposed “breakdown” are but hopefully we’ll learn more when her psychiatric evaluation is completed. I suspect that her people will want to keep the info under wraps but I’m sure we’ll be hearing more news about what exactly happened anyways. I hope she’s alright. I’m not the biggest Mischa Barton fan but I do care about her mental welfare. Get well soon, Mischa!!
