‘Up’, Up And Amazing!
David and I finally made it out of the house last night to see Up. After hearing so many good things about the film, we were both curious to see if the movie actually lives up to the hype. I’ve mentioned before … I had my doubts about WALL·E when it came out last year and was pleasantly surprised to learn that I loved it! I was hoping the same would be true for Up … and I was right:
Up has to be the most delightfully charming film that I have seen in a very long time. You can tell from the first 5 mins. of the film that it will be a truly spectacular movie. I was reticent to believe that I would fall prey to the emotional pull of the film … but it deffo grabbed a hold of my heart strings and tugged at them thruout the film. I understand it took 3 years for the story to get just right before they even animated the film … and it shows. While there are small plotholes that bothered me (eg. the age of the villain, seemed to me he should’ve been much older and less spry) the overall movie just ruled. If you haven’t seen Up yet … go see it. Do yourself a favor, spring the extra $$$ to see it in 3D … you won’t be sorry.
While we loved the film itself, the digital short that showed before the film was terrible. I didn’t like it at all … go figure.
No big plans for tonight … some errands to take care of, a haircut and prolly an iPhone upgrade. Happy weekend!

@Nancy — You *must* be kidding? There is no way the short was better than the movie … even if you loved the film, it wasn’t even close to as good as the movie.

Up was amazing. I cried twice during the movie. It was heartbreaking, uplifting, hilarious and rewarding. I loved Kevin, Dug, Carl, Russel and Ellie. I LOVED it all!

I cried my eyes out in so many parts of that movie..I thought the short was cute, but not as good as some of the others that Pixar has done..

Trent – I didn’t like the short either and you’re the first person I’ve found who agrees with me. I just thought is was bizarre. The clouds kinda creeped me out.

@ Margie. All the crying is exactly why I didn’t like it. I thought I was going to see some light-hearted film, end up crying my eyes out thinking about 40+ years from now and how the end might look for me & my husband. How depressing :(

I loved the movie. It’s a good reminder to all of us to do what we love when we can do it b/c life goes by so fast, but also, that it’s never too late to have a new adventure! I cried twice,and I’ve seen the movie twice, so I’ve cried 4 times, lol.
I loved the short before the movie! Just wondering, why didn’t you like it Trent?

I was dissapointed with UP and the digital short. Kind of a different film with a very sad back story. Strange for a Disney film IMO. And I didn’t see the point of the 3-D. It could have easily been a regular film and not in 3-D and nothing would have been lost at all. But I don’t think it was bad. I was just dissapointed wit it and many people I have spoken with felt the same way. But some totally loved it. So there you go. Something for everybody. Right? ;)

I LOVED UP…I’ve watched it 3 times…and all times in 3D!
the short was ok… better than the ones they did before w/ the other pixar movies.

@ Nancy. I understand. It got me thinking about my husband as well. The only thing I had trouble with, other than what Trent mentioned, were the young kids in the theater. The parents should have done research and known that the movie was rated PG and may have unsuitable subject matter for young children. I could have done without the kids takling, bored out of their minds, and trying to play while I’m trying to scarf my fries and dry my eyes out.

i loved the short. the only thing that bothered me was that it may give a false sense of “where do babies come from” to children… i mean…really… a cloud electrocutes a mini cloud and bam… BABY! ha. weird. but i loved it. i want a cloud puppy.

@Danielle, it is up to parents to teach their children where babies come from, not Disney Digital Shorts. If we can allow children to believe in Santa Claus, then I see no harm in them believing the stork delivers children until they are at the appropriate age to learn the birds and the bees.
Anywho, I thought UP was simply fantastic! Probably my favorite Disney Digital movie. I thought the short was the best short Disney has EVER done, it is by far my favorite of all time. It was so cute and adorable and I just loveddd it. :]]

I also had a problem with the villain being old, seeing as he was at least 20-something when the main character was a boy.
The movie was adorable, sad, funny and wonderful but the 3-d wasn’t necessary; didn’t add to the movie at all. I loved Doug the dog. He reminded me of my dog!

Oh I’m surprised u didn’t like the short, I thought it was adorable, I loved it. I don’t know if it was my favorite of all times, I loved the one with the little blue birds and the big yellow one, that cracked me up.
I loooved the movie! I cried during half of it hahahaha and my 6 year old loved it too. It is a beautiful movie.
@Lana, I watched the movie with my 6 year old who already knows babies come from mom and dad (doesn’t know how exactly, I told him I would tell him when he was old enough to handle the information and not share the info with the rest of the class hahaha) and when he saw the storks delivering the babies he went like, uh? hahaha I had to explain that it was something that it was sometimes told to little kids in order not to really tell them how babies are born. I always thought the stork myth was a stupid idea hahaha he did too.

I thought the short was cute.
Up, by far, is one of my Pixar faves! I actually saw it on a date and had to keep myself from crying. lol That whole sentiment was sweet and sad at the same time. I loved the action though. I found myself on the edge of my seat in certain parts.

@Margie. I just finished reading that news article!! Although I think that I cried more reading that than watching the movie LOL. It’s nice to know that big companies are still willing and able to make children’s wishes come true.

I cried and it was har dto hide it from my boyfriend, whose shoulder my head was on. His sleeve was drenched with my tears within the first ten minutes.

I liked the little movie at the beginning! It makes me look at single dark clouds differently now. :) And Up was a fantastic movie. Had I not been in public, I would have been bawling my eyes out.

Agree with the thoughts on the short – it wasn’t good. As for Up, I thought it was good, but it woudln’t be a movie i would rush out and buy. I thuoght wall-e was amazing, and while both that and Up tugged at my heart strings i didn’t find the plot of Up to be that incredible. Sure, it had it’s great parts and it was original, but overall I didnt think it was super. But, as you said, worth the watch in 3D most definitely.

I liked UP. I was confused at the short, I was like “O.o is that part of the movie?” XD but I got a tad teary eyed too, I loved Dug the most.
So for some weird reason, looks wise- Carl reminds me of the old guy that is in Dennis the Menace. XD
Also they are making a Toy Story 3, XD I wonder what its going to be about? hmmm

Yay! I’m glad you liked Up, Trent! I cried and laughed so hard I cried (squirrel!).
While I didn’t mind the short, I can understand why people wouldn’t. I mean, I’m not crazy about Wall-E (I need animals ftw)—and that’s why Pixar does so well. They don’t cater to everyone all at once but still manage to capture the hearts of most.
The father and son next to me were adorable through the short, so I remember it with their oohs and ahhs. Heh.

I agree with Dennis, I didn’t like the movie, actually bored to tears, I’ve seen WAY better and the 3-D was a waste of $$ for us, didn’t really see anything that was 3-D.
My kids loved it though. My little one got scared at the dog fighting scene, but he’ll live, he just covers his face until it’s all over.
Now the movie we’re really disappointed about is Land of the Lost. We got our 7 yr old all excited about watching it, had her see a bunch of the old episodes when SciFi had their marathon. She was all psyched to go, then I read it was PG-13 for crude sexual content… ugh!!! WTH!!!
We’ll wait for it to come out on DVD, pre-view it then, but more likely than not it’ll be a no go for the kids and the kid is really bummed about that.

The digital short was.. interesting, to say the least. It was cute, the movie was beyond that though. You could automatically tell that sweat and tears went into it.

The short was cute, but it was indeed creepy… I thought I was watching Dumbo at first.
UP was such a good movie!! It’s one of the cutest Disney movies I’ve seen in a really really long time. That’s one movie I’ll definitely be buying when it comes out. The movie made me laugh nonstop…. I had never laughed that much before in a Disney movie. Best movie ever!

I thought I was the only one to notice the whole villain age thing. He seemed the same age as Carl which was strange.
Even though it was PG I think that both parents and kids can really enjoy it. One of my professors went to see it and he absolutely loved it, too. I think Carl’s life is something that a lot of people can relate to.
And Ed Asner was the best choice for Carl’s voice!
