I really don’t see what the fuss is about. While the news HAS been featuring MJ, I noticed in intervals they would break to cover the day’s news. Sunday programming on CNN was pretty much back to normal. And for those who did not want to sit around waiting for their news, we have this wonderful invention called the internet that allows us to get ALL stories ALL the time. So hop off the “I’m sick of MJ talk” bandwagon, he was a massive musician with a legacy that reached several generations. Trust me, life will go on without him, but he deserves this recognition.

Hey Serena, did you miss the part where I said I was talking about THE ACTUAL NEWS? I very clearly said a gossip blog doesn’t count. Christ. Read much? And how does caring about several people instead of just one mean I have a raging ego?
And I do go out and enjoy my own life. I’ll be on a nice long vacation out of the country for two weeks. And yet, despite that, I like being informed about what’s going on in the world. The whole world. Not just Hollywood. And I’d like to not have to scour the internet for hours to find out what’s going on.
And yes, there are people I would mourn for a long time. My best friend died ten years ago, it’s not something you get over in a matter of days. BUT I ACTUALLY KNEW HER. She isn’t some musician I’ll never meet. I wouldn’t even mourn any of the musicians I HAVE met.
So what does it say about me? That I give a shit about more than one person on the planet, that’s what.

Maybe you could take this as a cue and stop paying so much attention to media, to go out and enjoy your own life. You and VV are merely stuck in your own egos, otherwise you’d easily understand that this is OBVIOUSLY what will happen when Michael Jackson dies, whether it appeals to you or not- it’s not going to go any other way. Do you believe that someone is going to yell “WAIT! Stop the presses- some random people said they’re tired of us mourning this icon who just died FOUR DAYS AGO”. It’s been four days- what does that say about YOU? Seriously, I think it’s creepy how so many kids who are growing up (and “adults”, of course) in a culture that’s gotten so advanced that they actually expect varied forms of entertainment to happen constantly, no matter what. There are ALWAYS other things happening in the world- always horrible things to obsess over, things that you will never lift a finger to do anything about. Do half of us even lift a finger to do anything about the horrible things that go on around us all the time? You can point your finger at any atrocity or war that happens to be going on at any time, and use it for your own ego, but does that make you a better person or more intelligent? You are pretending to care about something else for you own ego purposes, but you are just bored of people mourning after a few days. There is probably someone in your life whom you would mourn for much longer than a few days, so look at it that way. If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been at wars for years and years and years. The aftermath of Michael Jackson dying won’t go any other way, and you’ll just waste your own energy with complaining.

Love the picture they used – that was about the last time he looked ‘normal’ and still had some sex appeal. I think a lot went wrong after that & I felt bad for him.

Hyperbole much? Did he have an impact on remote tribes in the Amazon jungle? Starving children in Darfur? Political prisoners in North Korea? His impact was primarily in modern liberal democracies in North America, Western Europe and Australasia.

Don’t get me wrong: he was a massively influential artist, and such albums as “Thriller” as rightly held in such high esteem, but the man had no real success for a decade or more and had all kinds of sleazy allegations relating to his conduct with children, which, for me, tarnish his legacy. I wonder what the reaction would be if he *had* been found guilty of child abuse? “Oh good, the pervert’s dead”, perhaps?

As for those complaining about people writing negative things about Jackson, deal with it. It’s called freedom of speech. In Iran, people don’t really get this privilege: surely that’s more important than the death of some pop star? In a month or so, people will have moved on, and we’ll be reading about Lindsay Lohan’s newest meltdown, or Michelle Bachmann’s latest rantings. People are fickle, and forget easily.

Oh, and Terri, fix your keyboard. It appears to be broken. And I would have thought that someone so devoted to this individual as you appear to be could actually spell his name correctly.

I agree with B. While it doesn’t quite apply to a celeb gossip blog like this, there is a revolution in Iran, North Korea pointing missiles at Hawaii, two wars, and a worldwide recession. It would be nice if news channels would talk about something, ANYTHING other than a dead pop star. It doesn’t even matter that it’s Michael Jackson. It doesn’t matter WHO it is. Enough is enough.

I think it’s almost a relief and commendable that for ONCE people are focusing on appreciating and honoring someone’s memory instead of the usual sensationalistic nonsense. It’s sad that it takes someone dying, but I really think a lot of us could stand to learn something from this- even how so many people shunned him before and then felt sorry about it after he died, and the feelings that get stirred up. To me, it’s a sort of a fascinating phenomenon, socially, albeit a sad one.

Usually there are loads of posts about different things going on. Is nothing else happening right now or is nothing else being reported right now? This isn’t aimed at Trent. It is a media-wide thing.

I understand the need for coverage but the news outlets are just doing too much. In their effort to provide 24/7 coverage of this, they are wasting time showing HOURS of people dancing outside the Apollo. I wish the news media would realize not everyone is consumed by this and at least balance it a bit.

The other thing that bugs is the fact that the same media outlets that spents weeks during his trials discussing what a disturbed person he was/nonstop coverage of him dangling the baby, etc are now spending almost 24 hours a day going on about what a legend he was. It is a little bit sickening. Clearly they are into cashing in through advertising dollars.

But please continue to keep us updated on the tributes to this amazing icon. He defined a generation, and even if he got weird at the end, he still had a huge impact on millions of lives.
