Remember the 'Time'

Time magazine has announced that they are rush producing a special commemorative issue of their magazine in honor of the late Michael Jackson. This special edition of the mag will be available on newsstands on Monday and is the first such mid-week issue of the mag since September 11, 2001. Here is our first look at the commemorative issue of Time magazine honoring Michael Jackson along with the text of the new press release:

TIME will publish a special commemorative issue on Michael Jackson to hit newsstands on Monday, June 29. This special edition of the magazine will be published in addition to TIME’s regular weekly issue and will retail for $5.99. For the special commemorative issue, TIME spoke with Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Nancy Reagan, Lenny Kravitz, Jesse Jackson, Tommy Mottola, Berry Gordy, Spike Lee, Sheryl Crow, Anjelica Huston, Clive Davis, Al Sharpton, Deepak Chopra, Kobe Bryant, Lance Bass, Oscar De La Hoya, Savion Glover, A.R. Rahman, Peter Gabriel, John Mayer and more. Stories from the commemorative issue will appear on TIME.com Sunday. Read TIME.com’s ongoing coverage of Jackson’s death at http://www.time.com/time/specials/michael-jackson/ TIME last published a special edition in between weekly issues in the days following 9/11. The issue sold more than 3.25 million copies in the United States.

A tribute like this should come as no surprise considering the massive impact that Michael Jackson has had on the world. This will be but the first of many, many tributes to the late King of Pop. This weekend, the BET Awards will pay special tribute to his memory … as I’m sure many other awards shows will in due time. Michael Jackson‘s death will resonate with people for a long time to come.

  2. tatiana says:

Its a wonder cover. I heard “Ben” today, and I broke down. Beautiful song. :( RIP Michael.

  3. TERRI says:

HE DESRVES IT….GOD REST HIS SOUL

  4. TERRI says:

AM STILL IN SHOCK OF HIS PASSING, AS I LOVED HIM AND HIS MUSIC….NOT MUCH MORE TO SAY, THERE ARE NO WORDS THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MICHEAL….”TRUST THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND DON’T DEPEND ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING.”–(PROVERBS 3:5) HE’S IN GOD’S HANDS NOW………AMEN

  5. razzle dazzle says:

honestly im tired of hearing about him. he was a good singer and all but come on people! shut up about it!

  6. beeba says:

yo razzle dazzle when you razzle and dazzle almost every music lover on the earth the way michael jackson did, then we’ll shut up

  7. Bey says:

He was awesome and broke down alot of barriers. There are no celebrity fans as loyal as MJ fans…just ask the Filipino prisoners and all the other folks all over the world. May he be in peace.

  8. Sarah says:

It’s funny but I always felt that MJ was dead long before this when he started to look like skeletor and no longer reminded me of the amazing musician back then.

  9. megan says:

I’m with razzle dazzle and sarah. I’m tired of hearing about it already, but the second I heard it, I knew it was going to be at least a month before I quit hearing about it….

  10. Lilliah says:

“tired of hearing about it already”?? He DIED. How shallow can you be? Grow up, kids

  11. tatiana says:

Exactly Lilliah. How immature is it to talk trash in a thread like this. If you don’t understand the fascination, then move on. I grew up listening to Micheal Jackson and the Jackson 5, and im very effected by his death. To my generation, its equivalent to Elvis dieing (and im not comparing him to Elvis). Just let us have this one, okay?

  12. Rich says:

To girls like ‘razzle dazzle’ and ‘megan’ who are tired of hearing about it, there’s a reason why people keep talking about him. That’s how much of an impact he made to the WORLD. No one wants to hear a naysayer during this sad time so keep it to yourself.

  13. Tracy says:

Trent. I am begging you. No more Michael Jackson posts. PLEASE.

  14. Lilly says:

Keep the posts coming Trent. If I never hear about Speidi, Megan Fox, Paris Hilton, or any of those other “entertainers” again, I will be just fine. But please continue to keep us updated on the tributes to this amazing icon. He defined a generation, and even if he got weird at the end, he still had a huge impact on millions of lives.

  15. B says:

Usually there are loads of posts about different things going on. Is nothing else happening right now or is nothing else being reported right now? This isn’t aimed at Trent. It is a media-wide thing.

I understand the need for coverage but the news outlets are just doing too much. In their effort to provide 24/7 coverage of this, they are wasting time showing HOURS of people dancing outside the Apollo. I wish the news media would realize not everyone is consumed by this and at least balance it a bit.

The other thing that bugs is the fact that the same media outlets that spents weeks during his trials discussing what a disturbed person he was/nonstop coverage of him dangling the baby, etc are now spending almost 24 hours a day going on about what a legend he was. It is a little bit sickening. Clearly they are into cashing in through advertising dollars.

  16. megan says:

    well put B…

  17. Lilliah says:

    B-

I think it’s almost a relief and commendable that for ONCE people are focusing on appreciating and honoring someone’s memory instead of the usual sensationalistic nonsense. It’s sad that it takes someone dying, but I really think a lot of us could stand to learn something from this- even how so many people shunned him before and then felt sorry about it after he died, and the feelings that get stirred up. To me, it’s a sort of a fascinating phenomenon, socially, albeit a sad one.

  18. Elle O. Elle says:

I agree with B. While it doesn’t quite apply to a celeb gossip blog like this, there is a revolution in Iran, North Korea pointing missiles at Hawaii, two wars, and a worldwide recession. It would be nice if news channels would talk about something, ANYTHING other than a dead pop star. It doesn’t even matter that it’s Michael Jackson. It doesn’t matter WHO it is. Enough is enough.

  19. Joanne says:

Note they chose a pic from the ‘In The Closet’ video …

  20. jamie. says:

oh yes he made such a HUGE IMPACT in between all the child molesting. 31 troops died this week for this country, do they get a special edition TIME magazine? perhaps YOU should all grow up & stop making a sick sad man into a martyr.
