Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick Reveal The Names Of Their Newborn Twin Daughters
Earlier today we learned that Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick became the proud parents of twin daughters born by a surrogate mother in Ohio and now we have an official statement from the couple on the babies’ birth … including their names. Here is the full text of the just released statement:

“Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are delighted to announce the healthy arrival of their two daughters at 3:58 p.m. on June 22 in Ohio. Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz., and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 pounds. Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker’s side. The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon.”
Yay!! Those are some serious names for a couple of tiny baby girls … but I’m sure Marion and Tabitha will grow into their very long names soon enough. Again, much love and congrats goes out to the newly expanded Parker-Broderick family!!

Marion Loretta? Did she give birth to an 80 year old woman?

ehe on the names. I myself prefer simple and short. Just a question as I am not too samilliar with surrogacy.. are these babies SJP’s and Brodericks full genetic offspring?

Marion and Tabitha? They sound like ex-roomates of Rose, Blanche, Sophia, and Dorothy.

@ Kaci – LOL!!!!!!!

Does anyone know if these girls have been named after SJP and MB’s grandmothers or mothers? They sound like old family names to me.

woooo not many people have my name, just hope it doesn’t become some type of name fad. lol

how old fashioned! but i guess, Kaci, these women will grow up to be 80 years old if everything goes right!
It seems to me that someone who attempts to be so forward fashion would give forward names, but that clearly isn’t the case! Poor kids are going to read about their birth and how everyone disliked their names.

All these Hollywood multiple births have to be some sign of some apocalypse….I mean really…
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:36 pm
kaci-hahahahahahaha!
all the hollywood multiple births are because the women wait too long to have kids (cause they care more about their hot bods and millions) and then have to go to fertility clinics where it’s a common “side effect” to have multiples. think about it- all the celeb ladies having multiples are old.

I can’t see the name Loretta without thinking of Cleveland’s wife in “The Family Guy.”

Why does poor little Tabitha only get one middle name? Not even a day old and we already know who the favorite is – I hope she gives them hell for that later. Or maybe she’s the favorite b/c she didn’t get stuck w/ Marion Loretta… ;)
Regarding the old-fashionedness of the names, I think that’s the new trend in cool baby names, to go really old school like Henry, Hazel, Phineas, etc. (Yes, I’m talking to you, Julia Roberts!)
I’ve got to agree w/ Renee on the multiple births. I think multiple births are up all over the county b/c women are waiting longer to have children. By the time they’ve got their career going in their mid thirties, they often have problems conceiving or carrying a baby to term. :(

@ Kaci, my thoughts exactly. When Trent says “serious” I think he means OLD.

Ooh, I just thought of something… it’s a good thing they don’t live in the southern US. I’m from one of the southeastern states, which will remain namelss, and first and middle names are often shortened into what I like to refer to as “redneck names!” The 1st name is shorted into one syllable, a “y” is added, and then the middle name is shorted into one syllable and tacked on. For example, Robert Michael would be Bobby-Mike – and, yes, I knew someone called Bobby-Mike! So Marion Loretta would be Mary-Lo and poor little Tabitha Hodge would be Tabby-Ho! ;)

I’m a little disappointed with those names. I was expecting something a little more fabulous.

I love them. Period. Still married, nice family and they are both fabulous.
They could have given their kids idiotic names like say, Zuma or Bronx.
Thank God, just regular names.

Are they genetically SJP’s babies? I like traditional names, but Marion sounds like a barmaid.
June 24th, 2009 at 5:40 am
Marion sounds like a 1950’s housewife and Tabitha reminds me of Bewitched. Hodge is just plain awful for a baby girl! Still, I’m sure they are happy!

Normalcy will be unknown in these poor kids lives.
June 24th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Interesting choice, for sure. Congrats to them still. :)

Congratulations!

um – were they not just about to divorce mere months ago?? why-o-why do people think breeding is the answer? good gawd.
June 25th, 2009 at 12:03 am
hate them and hate the names, i wouldnt expect anything more from these two…. sorry!

I love Sarah Jessica and love the names. They are family names and classic! They will be so amazing I’m sure!
