The examples of other agent/client relationships are illustrative of why this is not a good idea:
Mariah and Tommy
Celine and Rene

Doesn’t matter who the guy works for, he can still screw himself up. Many agents are also entertainment lawyers since they are contracting deals. It doesnt matter if they are solo practioners or a part of an entertaining firm, they still yield control and still have professional responsibilities they have to maintain. That responsiblity cannot be pandered off onto their firm. They, as individuals, can be brought up on charges for undue influence.

And with a client like Brittney, the amount of control this man may potential have is larger than most agent/celebrity relationships (due to her weakened state). He needs to be careful.

Also plenty of smart people make dumb mistakes when it comes to the heart. You must separate your brain and your heart when it comes to business.

But again, more power to them. I just hope this doesn’t wind up where I think it is going

AN AGENT IS THE GO BETWEEN THE POWERFUL TV AND MOVIE STUDIOS TO MAKE SURE ACTORS/TALENT DON’T GET RIPPED OFF. THEY MAKE MONEY FOR THEIR CLIENTS, AND GET THEM WORK. HE’S NOT HER DAMN BODYGUARD SHE CAN FIRE. SHE CAN LEAVE WMA,AND HE CAN LET HER GO AS HIS CLIENT. IT’S A TWO WAY WORKING RELATIONSHIP.

You people are so dramatic. How is this unprofessional?
Do you even understand what an agent does? They broker contracts and deals for their clients in movies, tv shows, appearances etc. There are rules and laws governing professional agents, and this man works for WILLIAM MORRIS, not Britney. Sure she’s his client but he’s not her hired help, he helps negotiate deals for her and gets her work. He get’s his base salary from WMA, and of course if he gets work for Briney he’ll get a standard percentage, but he has other clients as well. Was there all this concern for Mariah and Tommy Matolla or Celine’s hubby Rene?
Why with Britney dating an agent or manager is soooooo wrong?
To be an agent for a company like WMA usually takes a lot of smarts, hard work and education….most likely a degree in business and/or communications. I think this is a good thing for Britney. She needs to be with someone more mature and who is in the entertainment business, but is in the business side, not the entertainment side.

I think he should resign as her agent. If they break up things will get messy, and there is so much conflict of interest there. If they’re serious he shouldn’t be in a situation where it looks like hes leeching of her.

As much as I hope this relationship is good I feel like its a half step from going from her fathers guardianship to his.

I don’t like them as a couple. To be honest, this isn’t really different from her dating a backup dancer. Sure, the title may be more trashier but it is still the same thing: they’re working together. I don’t think anyone should date anyone within their working area… it doesn’t do any good. Also, she shouldn’t be in a relationship right now until she’s finally able to stand on her own two feet. That’s just my opinion of course. I’m sure Britney is lonely but still.

He seems like a nice person and all, but it’s a dangerous combination to be in a relationship with someone you’ve got on the payroll! In spite of her comeback, it still feels like Britney is being used like the cash-cow she is. Afterall, it has been to the benefit of so many people–her family included–that Britney get it together, make money and not squander away the fortune that she built up during her career high. Add one more person to the mix who gets a cut of whatever SHE makes and it’s only a matter of time before she explodes again.

If she is not his only client, then he should no longer represent her. He or she should find an agent they trust and transfer his work over to that person. He will still have other clients that pay him, right? Therefore he doesn’t need her money. Otherwise the relationship might give some potential clients/current clients/other agents a sense of impropriety.

Funny that you mention Celine Dion and her husband because that is an EXCELLENT example of agent professional reputation being ruined for his personal relationship. Whether or not true, people judged their relationship and his ethics/judgment/motive for having a relationship with her.

In other professions that are characterized by the agent/principal relationship there are rules that if broken can lead to sanctions for the agent (see professional rules for attorneys in certain districts).

Just giving my two cents.

Britney NEEDS to save herself. IMO she doesn’t need to be involved with anyone until she’s out from under her Daddy’s legal control, let alone a man she’s paying to direct her career. Britney needs to concentrate on her Boys ( getting 50/50 parental rights) and herself everything else can wait until she only has to answer to herself not her Dad.

How does it diminish his professional reputation? He’s been her agent for years, her friend for years, and is only now starting as anything more. It’s not like she’s his only client and he’s schlupping her, lol.

It’s obvious this relationship grew from their friendship. It’s no different than Celine Dion and her husband, or Kate Winslet and Sam Menzies. Happens all the time in Hollywood. As long as he keeps business separate, why should it matter? And for all we know, if things really get serious, she might decide to get a new William Morris agent. But until then, let them be :)

As an representative for a client, Trawick is acting EXTREMELY unprofessionally. He should end his professional relationship with Britney if he wants to continue a personal relationship with her. This whole thing SCREAMS conflict of interest when/if they break up. I don’t like this at all. But, nobody’s opinion matters. Good luck to them.
