Pilgrimage
The TV Guide

Yesterday afternoon Dino and I made our way to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to pay our respects to the late Michael Jackson at his star on Hollywood Blvd. As expected, the area was teeming with people who were trying to do the same. The entire block was cordoned off and fans were made to wait in line to get to his star. To be honest, it was hot and crowded … but well worth the wait:

I may not be the biggest MJ fan but I do respect the man for his important contributions to pop culture. I’m glad that I made the pilgrimage to pay my respects.

Afterward, I met up with my friends Tamar, Ollie and Caleb for a little hang out session at Tamar’s before we went out to see a laser show at the Laserium at the Vine Theater. After a few drinks and a great conversation, we decided to skip the show and just hang out for the rest of the night. We had a lovely time … we made the right choice.

This afternoon, I’m heading out to The Golden Apple Comics on Melrose Ave. here in LA for Milo Ventimiglia‘s comic book signing. He is launching his new Berserker comic book series and is signing the first issue for fans. Not sure what plans are for tonight but … it looks like a great day thus far ;)

Wow nizzy, it must suck to lead such a negative life. Very cool of you Trent.

  2. Michelle says:

    Hey gorgeous,

Great picture of you! I too felt the need to pay respects. His life was complicated, of course, as all great lives are, but that doesn’t lessen my sadness at his passing. Still listening to “Dancing Machine” even today. :)

  3. @ TRENT…I’m all for freedom of speech..but why have you not DELETED Nizzy’s comment yet?? :-(

  4. Amy says:

I’ve been runnung errands today and noticed a lot of places are playing MJ music, including Home Depot.

  5. Amy says:

If I could type it would have said running.

  6. Sherri says:

I showed Kyle the pics of you and the walk of fame. He wondered if you have a star. :)

  7. Nikki says:

I wish you would have made a stop at Farrah’s star also…. I hope a lot of people are taking the time to pay respect to her too.

Cool thing to do. After Princess Di died, me and my bff Cindy went to the British Consulate to pay our respects. We each signed personal messages in these massive, hard-bound comment journals which were apparently going to become property of the Royal family eventually. I still remember what I wrote! I do think it’s really important for people to acknowledge the impact something like this has on our lives, it’s not frivolous at all.
As for MJ, I’ve been listening to his ENTIRE catalogue this afternoon on AOL Radio’s All Michael Jackson radio station. It totally rules! I forgot what a good song “Who Is It?” is.

Amazing…Thanks for the visuals!! So glad MJ gave us kick ass music that will last forever. He will be missed.

Sherri brings up an excellent point…

Trent should have his own star!

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame Committee is responsible for selecting a new group of entertainers each year to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. New recipients are announced each June for the following year. In order for a person to get a star on the Walk of Fame, he or she must agree to attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection, and a fee (currently $25,000) must be paid to the Trust; some of it ($5,000 of $15,000) is set aside for maintenance and repair, with the rest going towards the installation, security, publicity, and staging costs.

thats really awesome! if i had the money or already lived in l.a. i would probably do that too! but i thought that particular star wasn’t actually michael jackson’s i thought it was another michael jackson from an l.a. area radio station? or is his proper star available because the borat premiere is over?

If I lived closer, I’d have done the same. I’m so saddened about his passing. At the same time, I’ve been feeling like he’s a friend I haven’t seen in awhile, ya know? I’ve not put his cds on in at least a month! And this is probably inappropriate-but it made me sad to think that one day the headline is going to be about Madonna, Al Pacino, and Paul & Ringo…and I can’t bear the thought. On a lighter note–where can we contribute to Trent’s Star Fund? He needs one for not being rude/obnoxious/mean/drama queen-ish like a certain other person (and I use that term loosely). Love you, Trent! And I know my friends and I would love to help get you a star!!! :)

  13. Nizzy says:

No freedom of speech huh? I didn’t curse or anything, in my opinion, I believe that multiple people, who before he died, called him “Wacko Jacko” now are “saddened by his death, including you Trent. i love your blog and come here all the time but I call them like I see em.

  14. Nylund says:

Trent, did you go to the right one?

There are actually two Michael Jackson stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. One is for a radio talk show host.

Michael Jackson (recording artist) has his star at 6927 Hollywood Blvd.

Michael Jackson the radio talk show host has his at 1541 Vine Street.

I know that some people were gathering at the wrong one for a while.

    • @Nylund — Folks were convening at the “wrong one” for a few hours only because the “real one” was covered by the Bruno premiere. Thousands and thousands of people have since been convening at MJ’s actual star in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd.
