Going ‘Berserker’

Yesterday afternoon, David and I made our way to Golden Apple Comics for an in-store appearance by Milo Ventimiglia and his partners Russ Cundiff and Jeremy Haun for the release of their new comic book series Berserker:

We got to hang out for a bit with the guys before making our way to Mercedes-Benz in Beverly Hills, CA so that David could test drive their new GLK350:

He’s been in the market for his first car so he is getting down to the decision-making phase.

After we were finished tooling around BH, we came back home so that I could lay out by the pool:

Lemme tell you … twas nice. I’m trying to get my work done as quickly as possible today so that I can get down by the pool again.

Tonight Kirsten, Darion and I are going to be celebrating our Friend Anniversary. It’s gonna be a very nice Sunday, methinks.

Weekend Hotness
Hot Dude Of The Week: Tyler S.

It’s Summer, y’all! It’s time that we get our asses to the nearest pools/beaches and start soaking up the sun! After all, that’s what the Hot Dudes of the Week are doing … like Tyler here:

Altho Tyler is posing for All American Guys (in all of his wet glory) it should be noted that he is a Canuck. AAG is going international and will be featuring hotties from around the world … not merely the homegrown hotties here from the US. I think that Tyler is a fine example of what Canada has to offer and is an amazing ambassador for his country. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee indeed! Enjoy!!

Lindsay Lohan Celebrates Her 23rd Birthday In LV

Lindsay Lohan made her way to Las Vegas, NV this weekend to celebrate her 23rd birthday at Wet Republic at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino with little brother Michael Lohan, Jr. and friends. Her birthday celebration was also utilized to promote her new spray-tan line Sevin Nyne. Here are a few pics from Lindsay‘s shindig yesterday:

Today, WET REPUBLIC welcomed Lindsay Lohan to celebrate her 23rd birthday and the success of her tanning mist, Sevin Nyne. Amidst all of the controversy surrounding the Hollywood starlet, Lohan traveled to Sin City and spent the day at Vegas’ hottest pool party destination. She arrived on the blue carpet in a sexy frayed black top that barely covered her tiny midriff, revealing her red bikini. The actress was joined by family and friends including her younger brother Michael Lohan Jr. and celebutante Brittny Gastineau. During interviews on the blue carpet, Lohan commented on the recent tragic losses of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. She stated, “I think we’re all just in mourning and we should just all respect the privacy of the family.” Lohan took advantage of the private VIP bungalows at WET REPUBLIC, shying away from all her fans and on lookers. The curtains were kept shut for most of the day, but Lohan did occasionally step out into the limelight and take in the energy of the pool. As the afternoon continued, the timid beauty began to loosen up and was spotted dancing seductively with Gastineau. She even ventured out from the bungalows to say hi to good friend and world-renowned DJ Steve Aoki. Her connection to the electronic music industry was developed through her on- and off-again relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson. The day was complete when WET REPUBLIC staff presented Lohan with a festive red, white and blue cake as her entourage gathered around to wish her a happy birthday.

Lindsay also posted a couple of personal photos on her official Twitter account:

Lindsay tweets: MJ was playing when this was taken, I’m not that much of narcissist

It sounds like Lindsay had a nice, relaxing birthday celebration and managed to stay out of trubs for once. It’s interesting that Samantha Ronson was not in attendance at this birthday event but her actual birthday is coming up on July 2. I imagine L. Ron will be together for at least one of her birthday parties. In any event, Happy early Birthday, Lindsay! I can’t wait to see how you celebrate next.

The King & Queen of Pop
Madonna.com Honors The Death Of Michael Jackson

Madonna.com has been revamped this weekend to pay homage to the late Michael Jackson. Madonna‘s manager Guy Oseary (who essentially acts as Madonna‘s presence on Twitter) posted an alert to his official Twitter account letting fans know that Maddy‘s official website is now paying tribute to MJ:

Oseary tweets: a great photo of Madonna and Michael on the home page of www.madonna.com

The photo of Madonna and Michael Jackson is from the night in 1991 when the Queen and King of Pop attended the Academy Awards together. Pretty much all of Hollywood was agog that the two biggest pop stars of all time were each other’s dates for the Oscars that year … as People magazine reported at the time:

It May Have Been Just a One-Night Stand, but When Pop’s Billion Dollar Boy and the Queen of Steam Strutted Their Stuff at the Oscars, They Were, for One Brief Moment, the Brightest Star Couple of All. As anyone burdened with stardom knows, finding a date for the Oscars can be an enormo pain. After all, really famous folk simply can’t be seen with some sweet nobody who waves “Hi Mom” at the camera and spends the evening worrying about credit-card approval at Spago. And so it was, when Madonna and Michael Jackson, Earth’s top pop stars, faced the who-is-famous-enough-to-be-seen-with-me quandary, they hit on the perfect solution. Since they were already planning a duet for Michael’s upcoming album, Dangerous, and since they both happened to be on all Hollywood’s collagen-enhanced lips anyway—he for his ballyhooed “billion-dollar” contract with Sony, she for her upcoming, already controversial self-ploitation film, Truth or Dare-why not date…each other? Big dates can also become big disasters, however. So a week before the Oscars, the couple met at L.A.’s Ivy restaurant to plan and, perhaps, trade makeup tips. By Oscar night, all was ready. Michael looked positively legendary in gold-tipped cowboy boots, a blinding diamond brooch and—in a dramatic sartorial departure—two gloves. Madonna, awash in peroxide and pluck, diverted at least some of the attention from her low-cut, pearl-encrusted Bob Mackie gown with $20 million in diamonds, on loan from jeweler Harry Winston. They entered L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium and promptly collected their well-deserved Best Seat honors—front row, two on the aisle. All seemed fine at first. Michael applauded as Madonna out-Marilyned Marilyn in a vampy rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s Oscar winning “Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man).” And it seemed everyone agreed that the ermined minx stole the show. Afterward, things got a little dicey, for Michael at least, when the couple arrived at Spago for Swifty Lazar’s annual Oscar bash. After whispering and giggling in Michael’s ear, the Material Girl abandoned her one-night Boy Toy and hopped over to Warren Beatty’s table, where heavy breathing and light petting ensued. “He fondled her all over,” says a dedicated observer. But all turned out fine. Michael, tit-for-tat, dandled Diana Ross on his lap before Madonna returned and joined him for a grand exit. Strobes flashed and the partyers cheered—even though everyone seemed to understand that Michael and Madonna’s big night out was about as romantically valid as taking your cousin to the prom. So just what were they up to? What else? When the Shy Man of showbiz and the Princess of Publicity concoct a date together, it can only mean one thing—they both have something to promote.

At the time Madonna was promoting her, now infamous, documentary film Truth or Dare and MJ was whipping up publicity for his album Dangerous. I absolutely remember when these two celebrity titans teamed up for just one night to set the world of celebrity on fire. Never before and never since did Madonna and Michael Jackson step out in such a public way together … that night in April 1991 was their night. As you may recall, Madonna issued a statement on the day that Michael died saying that she couldn’t “stop crying over the sad news” so it’s pretty clear that she truly cared for Michael Jackson. Madonna and MJ ruled the 80′s and the 90′s together … it must be terribly sad for Madonna to lose her superstar counterpart.

"We miss Michael endlessly, our pain cannot be described in words."
The Jackson Family Issues A Public Statement To Fans

On the day that Michael Jackson died, the tributes from his close friends came pouring in with expressions of grief, sorrow and remembrance. Yesterday, on behalf of the entire Jackson family, patriarch Joseph Jackson released an official statement to the public expressing their feelings on the passing of Michael Jackson. Here is the full text of the Jackson family statement:

“In one of the darkest moments of our lives we find it hard to find the words appropriate to this sudden tragedy we all had to encounter. Our beloved son, brother and father of three children has gone so unexpectedly, in such a tragic way and much too soon. It leaves us, his family, speechless and devastated to a point, where communication with the outside world seems almost impossible at times. We miss Michael endlessly, our pain cannot be described in words. But Michael would not want us to give up now. So we want to thank all of his faithful supporters and loyal fans worldwide, you – who Michael loved so much. Please do not despair, because Michael will continue to live on in each and every one of you. Continue to spread his message, because that is what he would want you to do. Carry on, so his legacy will live forever. My grandchildren are deeply moved by all the love and support you have shown for them and their father, Michael Jackson.”

Joseph Jackson & Family

Very sweet, very touching sentiments indeed. There is no doubt that Michael was the centerpiece of the Jackson family and I imagine they are all suffering greatly from his loss. Whatever may have happened in the family’s past, I know that love and forgiveness overshadowed the negative in that family. It remains to be seen what the family will authorize by way of giving the public access to MJ‘s remains (ie. if he will be made available for a public service) but my guess is that they will do everything they reasonably can to allow the public to be a part of his funeral. From the age of 5, Michael Jackson belonged to the world … I imagine that he will belong to the world until he is finally laid to his final resting place.

Mays was found unresponsive in his home this morning
Billy Mays, Infomercial King, Passes Away At 50

More sad news to pass along today … Billy Mays, perhaps the most successful infomercial pitchman of all time, has passed away today at the age of 50. According to police, Mays was found by his wife early this morning in their Tampa, FL home and was pronounced dead a short time after. Strangely enough, Mays was on board an airplane that suffered a tire blow-out last night before his death this morning but neither he nor any of the other passengers on board were seriously injured as a result (well, that we know of). His cause of death is not yet known:

Television pitchman Billy Mays — who built his fame by appearing on commercials and infomercials promoting household products and gadgets — died Sunday, FOX News confirms. Mays was found unresponsive by his wife inside his Tampa, Fla., home at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Tampa Police Department. Police said there were no signs of forced entry to May’s residence and foul play is not suspected. Authorities said an autopsy should be complete by Monday afternoon. Mays, 50, was on board a US Airways flight that blew out its front tires as it landed at a Tampa airport on Saturday, MyFOXTampa.com reported. US Airways spokesman Jim Olson said that none of the 138 passengers and five crew members were injured in the incident, but several passengers reported having bumps and bruises, according to the station. Authorities have not said whether Mays’ death was related to the incident. “Although Billy lived a public life, we don’t anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times,” Mays wife, Deborah, said in a statement on Sunday.

Wow! This would be the 4th death in the “celeb world” in under a week! Not that Billy Mays was a celeb but he was well-known here in the US for his infomercials for various products for sale on TV (among them OxiClean, Kaboom!, Mighty Putty, Orange Glo and more). In recent months, Mays faced small competition from pitchman Vince Offer (of ShamWow fame) who attempted to steal some of Mays‘s thunder but his controversial private life ensured that Billy Mays‘s title as King of Infomercials stayed intact. I even got to see Billy Mays in person when he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno a couple of months ago. He was a guest on one of the eps that featured Prince as the musical guest. He looked happy and thrilled to be part of Jay Leno‘s final shows as host of The Tonight Show. All life is precious and altho Billy Mays was not as famous as Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson or Ed McMahon, I’m sure his loss greatly affects many people — his family most especially. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends today … Rest well, Billy.

UPDATE: TMZ is reporting that Billy Mays was injured on that US Airways flight that suffered two blown tires upon landing last night (before he died). According to TMZ, Billy himself reported that he was struck in the head with something upon landing … he even mentioned the plane landing on his official Twitter account which, turns out, was his last tweet ever:

The FAA is already deflecting blame for the death of Billy Mays — claiming the legendary TV pitchman wasn’t wearing a seat belt when he took a shot to the head during a rough landing on a flight he was on yesterday. Here’s what we know — Billy Mays was aboard US Airways Flight 1241 flying from Philadelphia, which landed roughly when the front tire blew out as it touched down. After the flight, Billy told FOX 13 in Tampa that something struck him in the head — here’s Billy’s actual quote: “All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head.” We called the FAA for comment, and a spokesperson told us, “The passenger needs to wear a seat belt during landing and he didn’t.” A spokesperson for US Airways did not want to comment until more information comes to light.

Here is the tweet that Billy Mays posted upon landing last night:

Just had a close call landing in Tampa. The tires blew out upon landing. Stuck in the plane on the runway. You can always count on US Air.

The plot thickens. We won’t know the official cause of death until the autopsy is completed on Monday. Wow.

The TV Guide
Pilgrimage

Yesterday afternoon Dino and I made our way to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to pay our respects to the late Michael Jackson at his star on Hollywood Blvd. As expected, the area was teeming with people who were trying to do the same. The entire block was cordoned off and fans were made to wait in line to get to his star. To be honest, it was hot and crowded … but well worth the wait:

I may not be the biggest MJ fan but I do respect the man for his important contributions to pop culture. I’m glad that I made the pilgrimage to pay my respects.

Afterward, I met up with my friends Tamar, Ollie and Caleb for a little hang out session at Tamar’s before we went out to see a laser show at the Laserium at the Vine Theater. After a few drinks and a great conversation, we decided to skip the show and just hang out for the rest of the night. We had a lovely time … we made the right choice.

This afternoon, I’m heading out to The Golden Apple Comics on Melrose Ave. here in LA for Milo Ventimiglia‘s comic book signing. He is launching his new Berserker comic book series and is signing the first issue for fans. Not sure what plans are for tonight but … it looks like a great day thus far ;)
