Amazing news, y’all!! After the State legislature voted to pass a bill to legalize same-sex marriage earlier Wednesday, the Governor of New Hampshire signed the bill into law shortly after passage making New Hampshire the 5th State in New England and the 6th State in the United States of America to legalize same-sex marriage:

New Hampshire’s governor has signed legislation making the state the sixth to allow gay marriage. Gov. John Lynch was Surrounded by cheering supporters of the move as he signed the three bills about an hour after the key vote on the legislation in the House. The law will take effect in January, exactly two years after the state legalized civil unions. New Hampshire joins Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont and Iowa in recognizing same-sex marriages, though opponents hope to overturn Maine’s law with a public vote. Lynch demanded — and got — language protecting the rights of religious opponents of gay marriage before signing the bills.
The tide of marriage equality for all in this country continues on undaunted. Much love and thanks to the people of New Hampshire for taking another huge step forward for the USA to move one step closer to achieving true Liberty and Justice for all. Even with this wonderful advancement for marriage equality in New Hampshire, there is still a long way to go for the rest of the country. I salute the people of New England for taking the important lead in this matter. This is another great day in the history of the United States of America!!! Woot!!!

44 more to go!!! SWEET!!
Fantastic!!! Congrads New Hampshire. Can all yall call up the stupid people in California who voted Yes on 8 and set them straight please? ;) Kinda sad when California is being left in the progressive dust.
YAY New Hampshire!
Now, where are these petitions that Californians need to sign to overturn prop 8?? I’ll sign it, twice.
YAYYYY!
AH! My other home state!!! I knew it was coming. SOHAPPY
Hell yes to New Hampshire. I love living in New England. Here’s hoping prop 8 gets overturned.
i <3 living in NH… so happy and proud for my friends who have been waiting for equality.
I find it so funny how these states that are passing same-sex marriage aren’t as culturally diverse and open-minded as California and yet California doesn’t even pass it. It’s so weird. I guess California isn’t as open-minded as it represents itself. Go New Hampshire!
WOOT!!!! :)
Now I’m trying to decide if my honey and I should move to New Hampshire, Iowa, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine or Vermont. Decisions, decisions. :)
Isn’t it funny how “conservative” New England is so forward-minded? I grew up in NH – much love to my wicked awesome state!!
Response to Chase…New England is very diverse, maybe you should take a trip out here before you assume things :)…It may be a conservative state but at least we’re open minded and passed the bill…:)
much love to the great New Hampshire
^ hahaha wow! ^
ANYWAY — fuck yeah to NH! New England has such a unique independent, each-to-their-own streak. I love it. Someday we’ll look back on this time period like we now view biracial marriage… what’s the big deal??
What the what? You’re name is I Hate Beeonsay and you’re calling out Trent for something equally coincidental? Dude. Obvious troll is obvious.
YAYYY! As a born and raised New Hampshire resident I am so proud of my state! I’m so happy now I get to watch my best friends get married. It’s about time! Congrats to everyone, I’m so happy for you!!!
this is awesome, over the next few years this will become a non issue
“The new language does not differ much from the earlier version — churches are still EXEMPT from providing insurance and other benefits and services to same-sex partners of employees. Governor Lynch reportedly agrees to the compromise.”
*********
The ‘compromise’ bill allows churches, i.e….. religious-tax-free-corporations, to discriminate against same sex couples. One might conclude this would include private schools, organizations, and businesses owned by those religious corporations. This bill allows employment discrimination. In fact, religious corporations will be protected against lawsuits….. for every step forward, will we be required to take two steps back …. Second class citizens…. is this supposed to be acceptable?
@ Kaden – First of all, I never said New Hampishire wasn’t diverse whatsoever. I simply stated that California was diverse hence the reason why I thought/think it’s weird how residents don’t seem to pass this proposition. I never said anything about New Hampishire not being diverse in anyway besides it not being as diverse as California which I said above. I find it amazing that they legalized same-sex marriage not to be confused with me saying it isn’t diverse as a whole. ( :
I live in the Netherlands and i still think it’s unbelieveable that Same-sex marriage isn’t legal in all states. I mean.. what the heck is taking them so long? It’s not like you’re legalizing murder… O.o
They’re legalizing something amazing and beautiful: Love! That should’ve happened ages ago.
@CHASE – I think Cali has enough large areas of liberalness to make it a blue state, but there is A LOT of conservatism.
I liked that Gov. Schwarzenegger said that it needed to be defeated by a vote but that it will be defeated. It’s sad how long the country is taking and how much hate is being directed at the GLBT population, but we will overcome this.
