My impression of Trent’s statements (And forgive me if I’m off track, Trent) is that the emphasis should be not be put on the lack MJ’s performing, but his performing “live”.

His solo career has always been a case of spectacle over substance, and lip syncing has always been part and parcel of that spectacle.

Personally, If I pay to see a concert, I expect the performer to actually sing. That’s just me, though. If you’re content to to listen to something you can hear in the comfort of your own home for the sake of a few fireworks, have at it.

I lurve you to Trent, but Keishon is right on that one. really only MJ ( or former MJ or J5 fans would know that stuff). If you do a youtube on him you’d see tons of performances he did live, did we forget the billie jean era( the thriller album) and off the wall album, he did many shows for those live respectively, and plenty since than since dude toured all the way up through that album he did in like 2001 or something, if you’re talking about miming or lip synching, all acts have done that for decades, since the recorded track was first introduced, you’ll NEVER find a musical act who hasn’t, but he even mimed during his J5 days see it for yourself on youtube. You can’t name a child star since with that much pure and raw talent. In any case Im kind of on board with Trent that he might not be able to do all of this, as talented as he is, he is a 50 year old man, who has put his body through alot and has not been honing his moves and music as of late, so I can’t imagine him pulling off 50 or 51 shows, but I’d love to see how it goes down, hopefully it doesn’t put another nail in his coffin( but Im sure many hope the opposite) in any case, I personally will always be a J5 fan and I still play ” I want you back” for the kids I babysit, we watch the J5 cartoons together too, the music is still good.:)

Oh and to posters trying to get attitudes with Trent on HIS blog, it’s his blog so he gets to post his opinion, if you disagree or find it offensive you KNOW where to go, step off bitches.

While I LUV both you and your blog, I have to disagree. Michael has performed many shows live after the Jackson 5, his most recent performance in the early 2000’s. I saw him do “You Rock My World” live in 2001 and he was awesome. He debuted the Moonwalk live, performed on award shows live, and sold out live concerts worldwide. He’s seen as the greatest performer of all time by many of us (though I slightly prefer Prince’s performances) because he’s worked damn hard to prove his greatness. Even though he’s been out of the game for a while, I’m still willing to give him a chance to prove himself. If you could focus as much on his accomplishments as his personal problems and appearance, maybe you could see what his fans see. I’m devoted, but not blindly. Give the man a chance :)

@Marius — I think folks who read this blog are pretty aware of what to expect on a daily basis. Is it always perfect? of course not … but readers have a good understanding of what to expect from my blog on a day to day basis. Jacko is a different story altogether … the man hasn’t performed on stage in a very long time (he hasn’t performed live in decades, not since he was a child with the Jackson 5) so it seems clear to me that no one really knows what to expect. All we’ve seen from him in the past decade or so has been allegations of criminal activity, obvious signs of too much plastic surgery and a lot of face masks (to name but a smidge of his crazy antics). I think there is much cause to be worried that he’s not up to being this “greatest performer of all time” image you seem to have of him. I guess we’ll soon see, won’t we? He’ll get my respect when he earns it.

Is a false sense of hope what makes your readers come back? You know, in the hope that one day they might get to read real journalism on here?

When you sell out 50 concerts in three days, I think it’s safe to say that the people who want to see him are anything but blindly devoted. I think they are completely conciously aware that he is the greatest performer of all time.

Everyone you write about in this blindly devoted celebrity blog probably has great respect for Michael Jackson. So should you have.
