Kristen Stewart, of Twilight fame, is taking a break from filming The Twilight Saga: New Moon which is still in production for a November ’09 release to film scenes for another new movie that she is working on. Kristen will portray the legendary rocker Joan Jett in the new biopic The Runaways and was spotted yesterday trying to cover up her newly dyed hair as she left a studio here in SoCal:
Incidentally, Kristen‘s New Moon co-star Dakota Fanning (she plays Jane of the Volturi in the film) also stars in The Runaways … she will portray Cherie Currie. As you may or may not know, The Runaways was Joan Jett‘s first band (formed in the 1970′s) and also included bandmembers Lita Ford (portrayed by Alessandra Torresani in the new biopic), Sandy West, Jackie Fox and others. I’m not sure how long Kristen will be working on The Runaways before she has to get back to work on The Twilight Saga: New Moon but the fact that she dyed her hair jet black suggests she’ll be channeling Joan Jett for some time now. I wonder if Kristen Stewart has the acting chops to adequately portray Joan Jett in all of her awesomeness. Do y’all think she can cut it?

I love twilight but I agree she’s dull. I sincerely hope she does well and is creative enough to do a great job!
i cant believe she got a role like this. she wont live up to it.

So glad they’re doing a movie based on the Runaways…but honestly…I would have much rather seen someone like Eliza Dushku in that rule. I mean, the tough broad accent of hers would have been perfect.

wow, there’s a slew of hating. the film hasn’t even started filming yet nor has it been released for us to see! so quick to assume?
I like it! it is hard to see but I think it might work on her.

I think she’ll be fine. I don’t think Twilight was her best work even though I liked the movie. However, the reason I became a fan of her to begin with was her performance in the movie “Speak.” After seeing that, I have faith in her abilities.

I agree with Jacintos. I feel like everyone always judges her based on her poor performance in Twilight and they forget the fact that she’s actually..incredible. She was amazing in Panic Room and Speak so giver the girl some props. And Cakeaters! That role was amazing. (I’m not a Twilight fan by the way so this isn’t like crazy talk here she’s actually good)
I think she will do just fine, she certainly has lots of attitude.
Why do a movie about Joan Jett though. She wasn’t that big a star (at least not down here in Oz) and I haven’t heard from her in years. Am I missing something?
Its hard for me to say…Kristen doesnt really seem like she has the range for different movies. Shes iffy in Twilight and Adventureland was ok I guess.. Who knows? I think shes over rated but what do I know?
If Kristen can keep from blinking every 2.3 seconds, she might do okay. “Okay” being the operative word.

The Runaways were a band of young teenage girls, so Eliza Dushku would NOT have worked out because she is soooo not a teenager.
The movie is gonna kill! It’s based off the book by Cherie Currie, “Neon Angel: The Cherie Currie Story ”
So, to answer someones comment “Why do a movie about Joan Jett?” It’s not just about her, but the band she was in.
I think she will do a good job in this movie. She seems really excited to get the role, so I’m sure she will do her best to portray Joan Jett.
