Janet Jackson Makes An Appearance At The BET Awards
Janet Jackson, along with her father Joseph Jackson, made an appearance at the BET Awards (which took place at the Shrine Auditorium here in LA last night and was broadcast around the world on BET) to deliver another Jackson family statement to fans. (the first Jackson family statement came over the weekend). Janet was brought out to close the BET Awards which was a bona fide tribute show to the memory of the late Michael Jackson. Here is a photo of Janet at last night’s award show along with some deets of her appearance on the show:
At the close of the ceremony, Janet Jackson spoke publicly for the first time since Thursday about Michael. “My entire family wanted to be here tonight but it was too painful,” she told the BET audience, including her father who stood and applauded from his seat. “To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family. He will forever live in all of hearts. Tearing up, she added, “On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”
If you were able to watch Janet deliver her statement on the BET Awards last night, you could see how important it was for her to deliver the right message in the right tone with the right sense of reverence. It is widely known that Janet and her big brother Michael were very, very close. It is heartbreakingly sad that she had to speak on the occasion of her brother’s death. My thoughts, prayers and love goes out to Janet and the entire Jackson family as they continue to deal with the circumstances surrounding MJ’s death. They have much grieving yet to get thru. My heart goes out to them all.

i know a lot of people said that it was inappropriate that the jackson family showed up at the award show because it was too soon for them to make a public appearance after the death of MJ. Seriously though… did you see any of the candlelight vigil/tributes that were going on in virtually every city in the world? it was their way of thanking the fans because the outpour of support and grieve is breathtaking. i thought it was appropriate that some of the family went to the BET

Aww Janet made me cry last night she was the best part of that horrible show……. Omg Jamie Foxx is not funny at all. Joe Jackson is disgusting did y’all see the interview he gave to CNN at the BET awards where he pimped his new record label…….

I was really disturbed when I saw Joe Jackson on the red carpet, but when I saw Janet, and she said that the entire family wanted to be there, I felt better about the situation. The only thing that disturbs me now is the things Joe was saying on the red carpet. When someone asks you about your son’s death, you shouldn’t promote your new record company, and how blue ray technology is going to be the big next thing. It was really weird, and it really pissed me off.

I was only half-watching the show, it was kind of bad … I know the tributes were rushed, but still. I turned it off before the end, so I missed janet. I’m so glad she stepped up to say something, it was really heart-breaking, but good to have her classy, genuine message as the bookend to joe’s callousness and self-promoting. ugh. I hope he doesn’t end up raising MJ’s kids.

Janet is a class-act (unlike her father). Janet was there to thank the fans and to honour her father – she did not promote anything (again, unlike her fame-whoring father).

I did good for most of the show, but as soon as I saw Janet, the tears were flowing. You could see the pain in her eyes :(

Janet was so sad at the BET Awards but she kept being strong and i admired her.
