I ‘Strain’

The TV Guide
June 30th, 2009

Things have been lazy days around here the past few days … except for the few outings to hang out with friends over the weekend, David and I have stayed happily ensconced in our humble abode. Because there is nothing to watch on TV these days, I’ve been reading a lot. I’m currently TOTALLY engrossed in the new book The Strain which was co-authored by director Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Chuck Hogan:

I really don’t want to say anything about this book … I think it works best if you know nothing about the story before you read it and just let it freak you RIGHT out. I will tease the plotline a bit by saying that a mysterious incident befalls a plane full of people and figuring out what the hell is going on is freaky as hell. I have not been this disturbed from reading a book since I read Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. I had a hard time sleeping last night … it’s that good. I highly recommend it to all y’all.

No plans for today … David and I are seriously discussing a trip to Neverland Ranch this weekend for Michael Jackson’s memorial service. We’ll have to get more info but … well, we’ll see.

I loved the Road and I read it because you said it was good and boy was it ever. I have been waiting for a good book so you can bet I will be picking this up and reading it this weekend (that way I won’t be alone when I sleep). Thanks for sharing, I love when you do this!

I finished The Strain a couple weeks ago and had nightmares all through it. Now my boyfriend is reading it and having terrible nightmares; I’ve NEVER heard him talk about having nightmares before!
You just KNOW this is going to end up a movie – I hope they don’t mess it up too much! I can’t wait for the next two books to come out!

  5. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Cynthia — Since Del Toro co-wrote the book, I’m sure he’d want to make the movie. He is an AMAZING director, I have no doubt a movie version of this book will RULE

  6. Cynthia Says:

@Trent You’re absolutely right. Pans Labyrinth is one of my FAVORITES and why I bought the book. If Del Toro is involved, I’m all for it!!

Thanks for the book recommendation….I had it in my hands yesterday @ the library, and didn’t check it out. (my bad!) Hope it’s still there when I go back!!

I’m also currently reading “the strain” I’m liking it but it’s really not as scary as i was hoping.. I’m about halfway through it. As i read it though, I can already picture it as a movie. I think visually it will be more creepy. I know it’s suppose to be part of a trilogy so i’m sure the super creepiness is still yet to come.
