Sacha Baron Cohen is bizzy making the rounds in Europe this week as he premieres his new film Brüno at various locales … last night, he premiered the film in Madrid, Spain (wearing a Bull costume for the red carpet) …

… and earlier today he wore manpris and an exposed thong to the Amsterdam, Netherlands premiere which was held in the Red Light District:

Earlier this week Brüno premiered in Paris, France and in London, England … and I understand that it will be premiering here in the US very soon. Whether you like it or not, ready or not, want it or not … Brüno ist coming. I have to admit … I am a bit concerned that this movie may be poking too much fun at gays but, until I see it for myself, I’m totally reserving judgment. The promo for the film, thus far, has been pretty entertaining … I can only imagine what’s in store when the movie opens on July 10.

I think Sasha Baron Cohen is a disgusting piece of crap and all he is doing is reinforcing ridiculous stereotypes. Some people may find his over the top antics funny- I think it is sad. I won’t be putting a dime into this movie. There is other intelligent humor out there, this is not it.
OH MY GOD i can’t WAIT to see this movie!!!!!!! and @anna i think his point is to poke fun of all the stereotypes and narrow -minded peeps out there
Am I the only one that thinks this man isn’t funny?
Everyone who has issues over this movie, need to get over it.. IT IS A DAMNED movie… Don’t read more into than needs to be… Comedy always makes fun of someone, and everyone usualy lives.. Some laugh, some hate it… but DONT MAKE MORE OF IT … IT’S JUST A MOVIE!!!!!
I love how fully committed Sasha Baron Cohen is to his characters..How in the hell does he come up with these outfits?? Genius..
@Jadedkitten – Doubt it, but different strokes for different folks, eh?
@Jadedkitten – no you aren’t the only one who thinks that man isn’t funny.
I love Sasha Baron Cohen. His antics are over the top, but he is not reinforcing stereotypes. I have to wait to see it, but he likes to poke fun at the people who actually believe these stereotypes(the racists and homophobes). As in Borat there were quite a few examples of Jew bashing, but he himself is a devout Jew. I don’t think he will be bashing gays. Look deeper….sometimes we Americans are just stupid and get offended when a point is actually being made.
@Meghan – I totally agree. That’s the point, you lay out every stereotype possible to show people how ridiculous they are. It’s like no one has ever heard of satire…
@Meghan-you got it right. he shows the world how many people believe the stereotypes and mocks them. people who don’t think he’s funny obviously don’t get the joke DUH.
Cohen’s characters are the joke. People are laughing at them. That is why he has done anti-semitic characters but not jewish ones. Therefore the movie is anti-gay, it only perpetuates bigoted stereotypes.

Oh my, I find him absolutely hilarious/ridiculous. He’s totally bonkers. I don’t find his character offensive -yet- and I think it’d be stupid to assume regular, normal gay men act like this. He’s taking Brüno to extremes, making him as different from any real person as he can. He did the same thing with Borat and I don’t find myself judging Kazakhs by that standard or an objective of jokes.
I think he’s positively ridiculous… I’m excited about this move-eh!
Unfortunately, a lot of people will completely miss the joke and take him seriously. I think he walks a very fine line.
I, for one, am super excited.
And Maggie, I’m definitely with you.
A lot of people (most of the commenters, and even Trent) are already misinterpreting his message. His characters are NOT the joke. They are funny, yes, but the humor in his characters is intended for an immediate effect (the initial HA!, if you will). What we should be more concerned with is the people he chooses to include in his film. He films with people that are unaware of his fame, people who don’t even recognize that Bruno is merely a character (yes, guys…most of the film is NOT paid actors!), to poke fun at HOMOPHOBIA, not HOMOSEXUALS. He brings stereotypes to extremes in order to dimiss them (i.e. discusses anti-Semitism, and in Bruno, dresses as a mock-cropped Hasidic Jew, and yet, Sacha Baron Cohen is a practicing Jew with a profound respect for the religion).
Don’t take the characters seriously, guys, just be appalled at the half-naked guys who chant G-A-Y T-V and are later shocked to hear that they are appearing on Austrian Gay TV.
The point of Sasha Cohen’s characters is a way to shed light on how phobic people are of what they don’t know. That was most certainly the point in Borat and I am certain this is the point of Bruno.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to an advance screening of this movie back in May – my understanding is that it wasn’t the final final cut, but pretty close. I am also a complete hag (said with love of course) and all gay rights causes are near and dear to my heart. That said, I laughed my ass off at this movie. I don’t believe that Sacha Baron Cohen’s point is to make fun of gay people and to promote stereotypes – it’s to make fun of the people who actually buy into those stereotypes. The movie was ridiculous and over the top (of course) and it won’t be for everyone, but I don’t think anyone needs to get their panties in a bunch over it. :)
I don’t think he’s making fun of gays… I think it’s more shock humour, to provoke responses from those around him who fall for the guise. Bruno is just the vehicle for his humour, as was Borat, not exactly the target. I can see how Trent and others can be offended by the stereotyping, but I don’t think his goal is to poke fun at gays. Ali G, however, poked fun at people like him. I think Ali G is brilliance, Bruno and Borat are funny at times but offensive, both in the way they provoke and in the responses they get from others.
