‘Brüno’ Premieres In Berlin

Lettin' it all hang out
June 22nd, 2009

Sacha Baron Cohen continued his movie promo tour across Europe over the weekend when he brought the Brüno party to Berlin, Germany. Cohen also brought along a few friends to help promote the film … friends who joined him in wearing full-body knitted costumes that were anatomically correct:

Altho the genitals that were on display at the Berlin premiere of Brüno were not real, I thought it best to cover-up the naughty bits for those of you who may be reading the goss from work … church … or some other place that might frown upon the sight of knitted penises and testicles. After the jump, check out the uncensored photos from the Brüno Berlin premiere along with some deets about the event itself

Sacha Baron Cohen’s rather unconventional tour of Europe has seen him dress as a bull in Madrid, reinvent the soldier with hotpants in London, squeeze into yellow braces in Paris and show off his red thong in Amsterdam. But in what is arguably his most outlandish outfit yet his alter ego Bruno squeezed into a pink bodysuit for the Berlin premiere yesterday. The knitted suit left nothing to the imagination – with anatomically correct knitted genitals. Baron Cohen was accompanied by a group of models, whose suits conveyed a range of different sexualities and genitals – including a transgender male. Each of the comedian’s Bruno premiere outfits has reflected an aspect of the national culture. It’s hard to see what part of the German nationality Baron Cohen was attempting to illustrate, unless it was nudism. His mock documentary certainly doesn’t shy away from the human body, leading British censors to give it an 18 certificate. lar The BBFC said three scenes in particular made the film unsuitable for a younger audience: one involving Bruno’s pygmy flight attendant boyfriend, one in which Bruno mimes oral sex with a dead member of German dance act Milli Vanilli and one in which Bruno attends a real swingers’ party.

LOL. Well, you gotta hand it to Sacha Baron Cohen … at least he knows how to market a film. All in all, the promo that he’s been doing for his new film Brüno has thus far been entertaining. He might have outdone himself with the knitted nekkid suits … but, then again, he has yet to bring his film to the US for any premieres here. Could he have something even more interesting in store for the NYC and/or the LA premieres? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. What do y’all think … what else could he possibly wear to out do these outfits?

I can’t believe you’d take offense to “the Hangover” and not to this? I think Sasha Baron Cohen is doing more to perpetuate homosexual stereotypes than stupid, drunk frat-boy type jokes. Still trying to figure out why anyone would pay any attention to him… his appeal is equivalent to Speidi’s appeal, imho!

    same Jennifer.

  3. Meream Says:

I clicked to comment to thank you for covering the erm, those parts. But then clicking to comment led to the covered parts. :D

  4. Meream Says:

    **uncovered parts, I mean.

@Jennifer @anna — “I have to admit … I am a bit concerned that this movie may be poking too much fun at gays but, until I see it for myself, I’m totally reserving judgment.” http://www.pinkisthenewblog.com/2009/06/bruno-premieres-in-madrid-amsterdam/

  6. DJWhoop Says:

As much as I love “over the top” humor, I just don’t get him either. I’m not interested enough to see this movie, so I won’t judge it. I did see Borat, but some of it was just nonsense. Okay, most of it was nonsense.
I don’t see him as any kind of comic genius.

  7. Natty Says:

I just dont see him as funny. I sure hope he gets paid well for his “acting” though.

  8. Kendra Says:

I can’t effing wait for this movie! Sasha Baron Cohen is the ultimate character actor..I wonder if he can turn this off at the end of the day..I just can’t imagine that he can! He’s so great..

  9. Frisa Says:

I can’t believe that people actually pay to see this guy!! I actually spent my hard earned money to see Borat and we left before the movie was over. Thumbs down!!

  10. eiBeauty Says:

    He is genius.

  11. debho Says:

    He is stupid.

  12. Paranel Says:

He is genius???!!!! at what? being stupid?

  13. Elle O. Elle Says:

    @Paranel:
Yes, he is a genius. You really have to watch Da Ali G Show to get it, it doesn’t work as well in films. It’s satire, much like The Daily Show and Colbert Report.
The main problem with this movie is that Bruno is such a weak character compared to Ali G and even Borat. It also doesn’t help that the show first aired in the UK in 2000, so these characters have sort of worn out their welcome.
I probably won’t see this movie, at least not until it’s on HBO or Starz. But not because I think he’s an idiot or offensive. I won’t see it because Bruno was the lamest Ali G character.

  14. JessicaGiovanna Says:

I loved Ali G, I loved Borat, but I don’t think I’m going to like Bruno.. It looks like it’s the same stunts, over and over again. When the Borat skits would show on da Ali G show, they were hilarious, but I don’t see how he can make it a full length movie.. we’ll see.

  15. JessicaGiovanna Says:

My bad.. I mean, *Bruno skits*

  16. persephone Says:

i would still watch it.. i love sbc

  17. brent Says:

it’s time you all read a book or something. go to the park and piss off!!!!

  18. tatiana Says:

    Nice landing strip.

  19. Kristy Says:

@ Elle. I agree… Ali G is pure genius. You have to be a comic genius to be that stupid. SBC is so quick as that character. That being said, Borat is offensive and Bruno is kinda lame. I probably won’t watch this one either.
