A Public Memorial For Michael Jackson Has Been Scheduled For July 3, 2009
TMZ is reporting that the body of Michael Jackson will be transported to the Neverland Ranch on Thursday and CNN reports that a public memorial service will be held at the ranch on Friday. The public ceremony will be followed by a private family service on Sunday. This week, preparations began at Neverland for the memorial services this weekend … a white carriage was unloaded yesterday which will, presumably, house his body:

From TMZ: We’ve just learned Michael Jackson’s body is set to be driven to Neverland Ranch late Thursday morning. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ upwards of a 30 car motorcade — including Jackson’s body — will be traveling
from Los Angeles to Neverland at 10 AM on Thursday. We’re told law enforcement is currently meeting to discuss security and traffic control.
From CNN: Michael Jackson’s body will return to his Neverland Ranch on Thursday morning for a public viewing on Friday, CNN has learned. A private memorial service is scheduled for Sunday. Also, a Jackson will, written in 2002, has been located, according to Jackson family lawyer Londell McMillan. The question of where Jackson will be buried remains unanswered. The singer’s hometown of Gary, Indiana, is asking the family to send him there, according to the mayor’s spokeswoman. Gary Mayor Rudy Clay has been in contact with the Jackson family hoping to make that happen, spokeswoman Lalosa Burns said Tuesday. Clay told Chicago radio station WGN that he expects Jackson’s body will, at the least, be taken to Gary for a memorial service he is planning for next week. “I believe that his body will lie in state in Gary, Indiana,” Clay said Tuesday. “Now, it may not happen, but I believe it will.” The Jackson memorial service is set for July 10 at U.S. Steel Works ballpark in Gary, Burns said.
I understand the Apollo Theater in NYC is also hosting memorial services for Michael Jackson this weekend but it remains to be seen if his body will be transported to NY for any public memorial services there. David and I have been talking about mebbe going up to Neverland Ranch for the service this Friday … we haven’t made any determination just yet.

This is totally separate from the post, but I think it would be great if Neverland Ranch was kept like Graceland! It would be a way for the public to still have access to Michael Jackson’s life, even after death!
June 30th, 2009 at 11:17 am
@Gillian — I’d bet good money that that is exactly what will happen. Neverland will be MJ’s Graceland. If he is buried there, you can absolutely count on Neverland becoming the new Graceland.

I think he should be buried at Neverland. I can only imagine if you were able to ask him where he’d want to be, that would be it. And I can’t help but think that the Mayor of Gary wants his body there just to gain tourists. Hate to be so negative, but that’s how I feel.
June 30th, 2009 at 11:23 am
How far is the drive from Hollywood? I would love to go but have no clue where Neverland Ranch is!
And yes.. I believe Neverland will become his Graceland. I have been a huge fan since I was like 3 or 4 yrs old and would visit there in a heartbeat as I know millions around the world would also.

Oh Trent, you and David have to go!
I am all the way up here in Canada, and I need to live Vicariously through you!
June 30th, 2009 at 11:53 am
I thought MJ didn’t want to return to Neverland after everything that happened there meaning the raid the police did, etc. Regardless, it was still the home we all knew him to love and such and it would make sense that it would become his final resting place.
June 30th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
I also bet that Neverland will be open to the public soon! I would love to see a glimpse inside his world. I think you both should totally go and report for the millions of us who can’t make it!

[...] The public viewing of Michael Jackson’s body is gonna be as creepy as you imagined. [PITNB] [...]

THE LIVING WILL, michael jackson made will override any decision by any person. If MJ wrote in his will where he wants to be buried, this is what legally will take place. IF they dont go by the will, there are consequences of law suit.
June 30th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Oh God, I wish with all my heart I can go to Neverland for the memorial. I’ve never been able to see MJ in concert and now I feel so upset that I won’t also be able to pay my respects to this great, great man. Sob.
June 30th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
I wonder why they feel the need to cart his body all over the place for memorial services. Generally this doesn’t happen. Bury him and leave him in peace, then hold memorial services.
I thought maybe it was a little odd that Neverland was chosen seeing as how he hated the place afted it was raided and said it didn’t feel like home anymore. The rides have all gone and so has the zoo, so it’s not really Neverland anymore. Also, MJ doesn’t solely own it anymore either, so the conglomerate who has shares would have to be in agreement.
I also think the Mayor of Gary only wants MJ to be buried there for tourism reasons. I mean, how long has it been since they lived there?
Okay, enough jaded comments from me. lol

Trent if you do go be careful! That road is really twisty and there will be millions of people there.
June 30th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Traffic will be HORRIFIC as it’s a country road that leads in and out of the area, so if you do plan to attend, head out way earlier than you think is needed. Could always stay in Solvang over night, it’s a tourist trap but it’s worth it to see it once and you won’t have to deal with the traffic that is sure to reside on the 101 the morning of.

@omg — please show me where I “cussed the whole time he was alive”, go ahead — I’ll wait. Yes, I absolutely thought that much of his life was odd and I still do but I can absolutely respect his contributions to pop culture and still think that his life was a trainwreck. you are free to feel that commenting on odd behavior when a person is alive (mainly out of concern, mind you) and respecting them after they have died is “hypocrisy” but I vehemently disagree. clearly you are merely looking for a response, a little attention. well, this is my response to you :)
June 30th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Trent frequently reports odd acts of stars he adores because their odd behaviors is entertainment news and this is….an entertainment news blog. He will always end by saying his personal feelings are that he likes the person. I have observed his doing this on numerous occasions.
Back on track— that white funeral carriage seems a little over the top to me. I live in Memphis and from what I understand Graceland makes LOADS of money for the EP estate. If MJ is in debt/wants to leave a solid estate for his kids, opening Neverland to the public and creating a museum would make sense. Hopefully Neverland Ranch is in a better location than Graceland. Graceland is basically in an area where people who live in Memphis know NOT to go. Rough as heck! Poor tourists.
June 30th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
@omg — What facts? Prove them, please … you claim to have evidence, yes? Why do you think I “can’t handle” your comment? hahaha
June 30th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
OMG @ omg…..come on, most people in the world thought Michael Jackson was loony, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he was a genius when it came to his craft. And to this end, no one wants to see his life end this way. No matter what he was or wasn’t, I feel for his children and his family.
Take a step back and see how much you are over-reacting to all of this.

I can not believe the best singer and the dancer ever is not with us anymore. The world will not be the same.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Trent, do you know what time his memorial will be? Omg you have to go! So incase i can’t go i can live it through you!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
FIGHT FIGHT!! lol
I hope he’s buried at Neverland, but I dont know if Michael would want a public viewing. If I lived in Cali, I would definitly go.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Totally agree with OMG. Trent, you’ve done nothing but bash and criticize Michael’s looks and lifestyle. Even so far as to question how he raises his children and make fun of him for wanting his belongings back. His memorial should be for people that loved him and believed in him in life. You had absolutely no faith in him and said that you doubted he’d make it through his tour. I can’t speak for Michael, but I wouldn’t want someone at my memorial that had no faith in me and was purely going because you appreciated his “contributions to pop culture.” CREEPY. He needed people’s support in life, not their “respect” in death.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
@J — Hahaha! I’ve “done nothing but …”? A little extreme, no? But I’ll prolly still go to the memorial whether you think I deserve to or not.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Hey J — I hate to break it to you but Jacko didn’t “make it through his tour” so, yeah. I can’t speak for Trent but I’m guessing he won’t be going to your memorial so you can quit bitching.
June 30th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Hey K – I hate to break it to you, but I wasnt bitching. I was expressing my thoughts. I thought this was what the comments section was for. With that being said I will bitch if I want. You are not my keeper. And Trent definitely won’t be coming to my memorial because I’m not dead. LOL Tend to your own business. Go find someone else to hate on.
@ Trent – Nice edit there. The “haha” part really added a little something extra. And yes, all your posts about him before death were pretty much negative. So, hahahaha!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
@J — I never said my posts weren’t negative, anyone who denies that MJ’s life was odd (to say the least) is in total denial. While I expressed my doubts I did stress that I hoped he would be able to undo some of the damage to his career that had accumulated in the past 10+ years. Was I confident that he would be able to pull it off, no I wasn’t and I said as much. But now that he has died, it seems totally logical to look at his life as a whole now that it is finished. He made great contributions to music, pop culture and society. He also lived a life of tragedy and was responsible for questionable behavior. The man was not perfect, far from it. You are free to feel what you feel about my commentary but, as I said, I will continue to do what I do … and happily.

Hey Trent, Stacey here writing to you from New Zealand. I cant think of anything else in the world i would want to do more than say good bye to Michael, he helped me through times that were so dark that they are hard to remember and lifted me up when I needed a friend. If you could go and see him on behalf of me and probably thousands of other readers that just cannot physically make it ourselves it would be amazing. I dont know what other words to describe him, I just know if I could make it to the ranch I would go, but would love to see you go in my place. You would never regret it, he was so amazing and will bring together incredable people i think.
Kind Regards
Stacey

See you there!! Maybe. I agree about the traffic though, bleck. We’ve only driven up to Santa Barbara once but never to Neverland!

re: trent’s statement of

This is a great example of something that gets overlooked all the time by people who constantly try to take one side or the other and expect everyone else to the same. You’d be bitching if he wasn’t paying respect, as well! Personally, I’m one of the people who thought he was an amazing soul- far from perfect, like everyone, but I didn’t spend time judging the oddities of his life out of respect for him and the fact that he seemed like such a kind, gentle person. Yeah, I’m one of the people who doesn’t believe for a second that he molested a single child. I’ll also be the first to admit that I couldn’t stand looking at pictures of him over the past decade, so I’d skip over them because he creeped me out. That’s totally shallow of me- that I want to remember him as he was in ‘83, when, at the age of 8, I thought I was going to marry him some day.
Ahem.
