Jennifer Lopez Works While Her Baby Boy Walks

Step by Step
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Jennifer Lopez continued work this week on the Pasadena, CA set of her new film The Back-Up Plan which went into production in mid-May. In between takes, J. Lo chilled on set letting the nanny take care of her 1 year old son Maximilian David Muñiz elsewhere (for some reason, Max’s twin sister Emme Marbiel Muñiz was not on set) … as you can see, little Max is already walking:

Jennifer Lopez always rolled with a huge entourage, but it’s grown a little bigger. As well as her usual team of bodyguards, make-up artists and stylists, the star took her son Max along to the Los Angeles set of The Back-Up Plan as she began work on her first movie project in three years. The toddler, who was dressed in sneakers, turned-up jeans, a studded belt and hooded jumper, was looked after by a nanny as the singer and actress shot scenes for the romantic comedy The film centres woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her Mr Right the same day. The 39-year-old, who gave birth to Max and twin Emme in February last year, says she delights in combining work with motherhood. “I bring the babies to work with me. I love it,” she says. “Honestly, one of the best days of my life was the first day back working on this film – I wanted to do this film really badly – and bringing my babies with me that morning. I was like, ‘Oh my God, they’re with me, I’m making a movie, they’re here!’ It’s great having kids on set. It’s the best.” Jennifer, who is married to singer Marc Antony, is also working on her next album, which will be the first since 2007’s Brave. “I worked on music while I was pregnant and while I was at home, but now to really get into it and focus on it and to finish the project is exciting,’ she says, adding that the children have had a large influence over her music. You can’t help but put not only your kids into it, but to put anything you are going through in your music. That’s the only thing you can really sing or write is stuff that you know. The more music you make and the more that you get into it and the more you write, the more you realise that’s all you can write.” Jennifer has a a number of other film projects in the pipeline, including the action thriller Double Or Nothing.

Man … weren’t these babies just born? I realize they turned 1 back in February but it really does seem like they were born just yesterday. Now, they’re walking (well, we can assume that Emme is walking too). This little one is really cute … but I cannot tell if he looks more like his mother or his father. One hopes that both children will grow up with strong resemblances of their mother. Max is a little cutie, ain’t he?

Mercy James Hangs Out With Her BFFs In Malawi Before Heading Home With Madonna

K.I.T.
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

As you may recall, the Malawian appeals court ruled that Madonna’s adoption of Chifundo Mercy James can move forward and cleared the way for the little girl to be issued a passport so that she can be moved to the US to live with her mother-to-be … but while the legal paperwork is being sorted out, little Mercy is spending as much time as she can chillin’ with her friends at the orphanage in Malawi before the move. Here is an adorable pic of Miss James with her supercute little friends:

Mercy James is spending her final days in Malawi playing with friends, completely unaware her life is about to change beyond all recognition. The four-year-old has been photographed enjoying the company of her nursery school classmates with a huge smile on her face as her new life with Madonna draws near. The singer has been speaking to her new daughter every night as she prepares to move to New York. Sources close to the singer say she has been calling Mercy James at the safe house where she has been staying in Lilongwe, Malawi. “Mercy can only understand and answer basic issues like ‘greetings’ and ‘what have you eaten?’ but Madonna insists on speaking to her daily,” said a source. “On Sunday night, she told her: ‘Mommy is waiting for you across the seas. Your big sister, Lola, has decorated a room for you. You will like it’” … Malawi’s Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling in April which said Madonna could not adopt Mercy James because she was not a resident of the southern African country.

What an absolutely beautiful group of children! Madonna is very lucky to be able to add Mercy to her family. I am DYING to see photos of Mercy with her new family … I know that they will love and care for her with all their hearts. I hope that little Mercy will be able to reunite with these friends in the future … it’d be a shame if this time spent with these cute little girls is her last.

Two of the CFDA attendees were Taylor Lautner of Twilight fame and Bradley Cooper of The Hangover fame … behold:

Michael Phelps Secures A New Product Sponsor

The first since his infamous "bong photo" scandal
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

You may recall that back in February Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps got caught puffin’ on a big-ass bong (ie. a water pipe that is usually used for smoking marijuana) at a house party in South Carolina … and as a result an infamous photo of the dirty deed made the rounds on the Internets very soon after the party took place. Pretty much as soon as everyone and their mother got to see the photo, Phelpsie got slapped with a 3 month suspension from the USA Swim team, at least 8 people (not including Phelps) got arrested for drug related crimes and a few big name sponsors ended their professional relationships with the embattled swimmer. But that was then … today we learn that Phelps has secured his first new sponsor since that bong photo scandal broke earlier this year … he is now being paid to promote H20 Audio’s new waterproof Surge headphones:

The fallout from Michael Phelps’ infamous bong photo published last winter in a British tabloid appears to be clearing. Phelps is set to announce his first endorsement since the furor over the photo began. It could be the beginning of a comeback for him on Madison Avenue. Remember how the 14-time Olympic champion listened to music in warm-ups before winning eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympic Games? Well, Phelps and H20 Audio are set to announce a multiyear partnership Tuesday for the company’s line of waterproof sports headphones and accessories. H20 will feature Phelps in a summer ad campaign, says founder and chief executive Kristian Rauhala. In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY, Phelps said H20’s in-ear, waterproof Surge headphones have helped improve his training sessions. They’re integrated with the Interval carrying case housing an iPod Shuffle music player. Phelps says he attaches the apparatus to his swim cap with a magnetic strip. Unlike other products he’s tried, Phelps says the headphones don’t fall out when he’s pushing off the wall in turns. “Now I feel like I can incorporate music in my warm-ups. It allows me to warm up better,” Phelps says. “I can push off as hard as I want to — and still hear perfectly clear in the water.” … “The (music) helps me put myself in my own world. I can focus on what I’m doing. And tune out what everybody else is doing — no matter what.” The endorsement came together because Phelps was looking to take his music “into the pool,” says Rauhala. The waterproof headphones can also help runners and other athletes, he says. “The sweat gets inside a runner’s headphone and they break. That’s very common.” Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin and surfer Laird Hamilton also have endorsement deals with the six-year old company. H20 will splash Phelps’s image across product packaging and retail displays at Apple Stores, Target, Sports Authority and Best Buy this summer. Cereal maker Kellogg’s dumped Phelps after the photo surfaced. But other sponsors such as Visa, Speedo and Omega have stuck by the embattled star despite a three-month suspension from USA Swimming.

I mean … it’s great that the headphones stay on in the water … but what I really want to know is do they stay on when you’re puffin’ on a big-ass bong? If so … I’m sold!

Ed Westwick Does ‘GQ’ Magazine

Villain is such a harsh word”
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Sacha Baron Cohen’s nekkid Brüno coverphoto is not the only reason to pick up the new issue of GQ magazine … Gossip Girl hottie Ed Westwick is also featured inside the mag, modeling some of the fashion “pieces that embrace timeless style and construction” that stylish men will be wearing this Fall/Winter. Here are Ed’s sexy GQ modeling pics along with the short article that accompanies his spread:

On the first-ever episode of the outrageously hyped television sensation Gossip Girl, Ed Westwick’s character, Chuck Bass, bookended a pair of date-rape scenes with a weed reference and the memorable zinger—delivered to the show’s principal, Serena—“Your life is over, slut!” “Villain is such a harsh word,” Westwick says from a hotel room in Washington, D.C., where he has just attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. It’s hard to imagine what a recently minted 22-year-old television antagonist from England was doing pressing the flesh with Beltway muckrackers. But Westwick, who looks like Jude Law crossed with a pre-psychotropic-meltdown Joaquin Phoenix, assures us in his assured British way that “everyone who is anyone was there.” If that makes Westwick sound like a bit of a dick, surrender now—it’s part of his appeal. Just ask Gossip Girl’s freakishly wide-ranging demographic of religious watchers, many of whom are as entertained by the incestuous nature of the cast as by the show itself. Westwick dates co-star Jessica Szohr (they played kissy face at our shoot) and is roommates (cute!) with Chace Crawford. When pushed to dish, Westwick minimizes the thin line between work and play, and fair enough. You’d date a co-worker if she looked like Jessica Szohr. Still, is there a downside to all that Gossip glare? What happens when TV’s latest prep-school bad boy tours Arlington Cemetery with his real-life parents? “Every time the tram would stop, these girls would come up, giggle, then run off,” Westwick says. “You feel like the kid in school that everyone’s laughing at.”

Fully clothed AND hawt … these pics are great. You’ll forgive me if I prefer this GQ photospread over the one of Brüno. The hair, the clothes, the styling … Ed looks really fantastic in these photos. See folks, proof that sometimes folks look heaps better when they are fully clothed rather than when they are not.

Who Needs Edward Cullen When You Can Have Barnabas Collins?

The TV Guide
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Yesterday was a very nice and quiet day around here … altho I had to run out to take care of a few errands yesterday afternoon, David and I spent most of the evening together here at home. Over the weekend, I got caught up in a marathon of the 1991 revival of the classic “horror soap opera” Dark Shadows on Chiller. Dark Shadows was a daily serial that aired in the 1960’s about the cursed Collins family in Massachusetts. My mom was a big fan of the series (which is how I heard about it originally) and was thrilled when the show was revamped in the early ’90’s. Dark Shadows ‘91 was a pretty big hit for NBC when it aired but due to the Gulf War, the miniseries was constantly preempted … and then eventually canceled. I hadn’t seen the series since 1991 and ended up missing the last 3 eps. I watched 8 eps on Chiller over the weekend and then, thankfully, found out that the rest of the eps are available on Hulu.com

I know that everyone is all ga-ga over Twilight, True Blood and the forthcoming Vampire Diaries but Dark Shadows was a pretty damn good series itself. It’s unfortunate the ‘91 version couldn’t live longer than half a season cuz the original ran for years. If any of y’all are interested in fun vampire drama, I highly suggest you check it out. Those of you who remember the series and want a second look can head over to Hulu to watch all the eps in HD :)

Not sure what’s going on tonight … I really want to see Up but David is really lukewarm on the idea … we’ll see. I just picked up the newly published J.R.R. Tolkein book The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun which is his version of the Norse Poetic Edda. I am desperate to start reading it, which I’ll get started tonight if we stay in. Ah … tough choices, right? Believe me … the simple pleasures in life are to be appreciated.
